MEGC Chapter 6

News

The moderator lightened the mood in the live stream, easing the tension. This little interlude also indirectly proved just how much of an impact Eldritch God had on the average viewer.

The first scene of the mid-section was the bathtub turning into a pool of blood. The male lead jolted awake in terror, but when he looked again—everything was normal.

The moderator felt her scalp go numb and exited the live stream at the fastest speed in her life, muttering to herself, No wonder there are so many comments—everyone’s crying from being scared!!

Yet after a while, she rubbed the back of her hand, feeling a damned itch of curiosity rising.

Just what kind of Dreamweaver made this work?!

Unable to resist, she entered the stream again—this time, remembering to switch to her alternate account.

So many people are watching… so it must be really good, right?

What followed was a series of scenes that shattered her understanding of “horror.”

Ao Qingxue felt slightly awkward; from her backend panel, she could see the moderator sticking around in her stream the whole time, making her too self-conscious to joke around anymore.

The mid-section of Eldritch God could be summed up as: “bloody and bizarre.”

After noticing something off about the female lead, the male lead did not expose her. Instead, he continued their honeymoon in the ancient castle.

But strange incidents kept piling up:

  • Stray cats in the garden disappeared day after day.

  • The piano in the castle played by itself when no one was there.

  • During candlelit dinners, they would hear a child’s giggles, running footsteps, and a phonograph playing the wedding march upstairs—yet upon checking, there was nothing.

  • Though they had eaten together, the male lead would always hear the female lead’s stomach growling, and sometimes, in his half-sleep, faint chewing noises…

Such horror tropes came naturally to Shang Jingyan. She was putting on a full display of her craft, dazzling the interstellar audience with her Haunted Castle performance.

[If it were me, I’d already have a nervous breakdown…]
[The male lead is brave as hell—why hasn’t he run yet??]
[Uh… I think he’s staying because he wants to see what became of his lover…]

The stream fell briefly silent. Ao Qingxue thought so too—it was complicated. Most likely, the original girlfriend had already died in that car accident, leaving her body occupied by the Eldritch God.

Yet the male lead clung to a faint, fragile hope. That was what made it truly tormenting.

[If this were a normal drama, the main theme would be exploring who the male lead really loves… but now it’s just…]
[Ahem, “Jingyan Suoyouren” really lives up to her name as a Dreamweaver…]
[How should I put this? She sure lived up to her name—she shocked everyone.]

One day, the couple went to the beach. On the way, they heard a news broadcast on the car radio.

It reported that last month, a certain experimental base had been mysteriously damaged, and some experimental animals had escaped. Residents were advised to be cautious—the creature had extremely high intelligence, excelled at deception, and fed on small animals…

The rest of the report was cut off because the female lead smiled and pressed the skip button:
“Why is it always such boring news? Darling, let’s listen to music.”

She chose a soft, sweet love song. Because the speaker quality was poor, the sound occasionally crackled with static.

In literature, no piece of information is meaningless. As the saying goes, if a gun appears, it will be fired later.

So it was easy for the audience to deduce that the “experimental animal” mentioned in the news was the female lead—or at least connected to her.

The female lead smiled meaningfully. The male lead stared into her pitch-black eyes, his Adam’s apple bobbing, and tightened his expression as he nodded.

[Ahhhh what does this mean? She already knows!]
[My god, this is terrifying—imagine the person you live with has been replaced by “something else,” and you didn’t notice at first… even went on a honeymoon with her… then when you realize, you pretend everything is fine—but now she’s seen through your act…]
[I’ve got goosebumps.]
[The BGM is a classic love song, yet I feel my hair standing on end.]
[This is too intense! Now the male lead knows, the female lead knows he knows, and he knows she knows he knows… they’re both acting!]
[Feels like the calm before the storm…]

The two arrived at the beach in silence.

The scenery was idyllic: a blue sea, golden sand, white seagulls—a beautiful picture at first glance.

The male lead collected shells and sea goods with a small bucket. He spotted one with a unique pattern but didn’t manage to grab it before the tide carried it away.

A hint of disappointment flickered on his face—earlier, the audience learned his “girlfriend” loved collecting shells and conchs.

Then, a voice spoke.

“Do you want it?”

The female lead looked at him. He froze.

She smiled: “I allow it.”

In the live stream, Ao Qingxue half-covered her face, thinking it was another scare—but what unfolded was strangely magical.

The female lead snapped her fingers, and the entire shoreline erupted in a rush of white waves. The sea split in two, parting left and right, the turquoise water towering like walls.

Like the mythical parting of the sea by Moses, the ocean obeyed her will. Seagulls wheeled above her as the waves receded, revealing that very shell embedded in the sand.

The male lead stared, dumbstruck, as the female lead took his hand, picked up the shell, and placed it in his palm:

“Whatever you want—if I allow it—you can have it.”

[?? What the hell, that was… romantic??]
[Don’t trick me into falling in love with an Eldritch God!!]
[Calm down! She’s a terrifying monster!]
[I was fully in horror mode—and suddenly, sweetness?!]
[Damn it! With powers like that, why not just make a love drama?!]
[Not a good sign… did you hear what she said? “If I allow it.” What if he wants freedom—will she give it?]

The male lead wavered. Ao Qingxue could almost imagine his thoughts: What if… maybe… the Eldritch God isn’t that bad?

But the next moment shattered that fantasy.

Under a parasol by the sea, they sat down to eat.

The female lead brought a homemade cake. But the male lead’s hallucinations had now extended beyond the castle—when he cut into it, the cake turned into a bloody, pulsating mass of flesh, streaked with white feathers.

He immediately vomited.

[Wait! Weren’t there a lot of seagulls earlier? Where did they go?!]
[Ahhh you’re right! When did they disappear?]
[Not sure—need to rewind to check—but I bet they’re in her stomach now…]
[Then what about the food he ate before…?]

“Darling, what’s wrong?”

From the male lead’s perspective, she was asking this while putting a bird’s head in her mouth, crunching it with a crisp crackle, red blood dribbling from her lips, wiped away by a white napkin.

“How did you get in? A tsunami’s coming—everyone must leave the beach immediately!”

A standard patrol model came to warn them.

The male lead stood up, pale-faced—thankfully, this gave him an excuse not to eat that cake, even if it looked normal again.

“A tsunami, huh…” The female lead gazed at the distant horizon, her tone wistful, almost longing.

The patrol officer was puzzled how they got past the cordon, but Ao Qingxue remembered:
“Oh, right—the female lead must have mind-control powers. Earlier, the patrol and ticket clerk let them in after just one glance…”

She sensed the plot was about to peak—and sure enough, that night, the female lead suddenly sat up.

She was nothing like her daytime self. Her eyes opened, and her sclera was packed with several pupil-like compound eyes!

She slowly turned her head, pale fingers brushing the sleeping male lead’s neck.

Was this it? Was she going to make her move?

The audience held their breath.

Outside, the ancient castle trembled with thunder and waves—the sound of the coming storm.

But after a while, she withdrew her hand. She seemed to puzzle even herself, staring at her palm, then after a moment, a knowing smile crept across her face.

She rose, went downstairs, pushed open the castle doors in nothing but a thin white dress. The storm lashed against her as she stepped barefoot onto the beach, one step at a time…

Meanwhile, on the Changqing website, Eldritch God’s votes were steadily rising—it had already climbed to rank 90.

Rank 100 was a threshold.

Earlier, topping the trending list had been just a brief flare—two hours later, it fell back down.

But the top 100 was different. For events of this scale, getting into the top 100 often meant mid-sized platforms would start sending contract offers.

And if one continued to stand out in such events, it was possible to sign with a major site like Changqing.

For Shang Jingyan, a newcomer Dreamweaver who had stepped in halfway, this was the moment when she finally caught some attention.

Exile System, Planet V061.

“Teacher, I recently saw a new Dreamweaver’s work—it’s quite interesting. Would you like to take a look?”
