It was then that Lu Xingmian understood why Lu Shiran had turned his head in the doctor’s office, it was because he had been staring intently at Dr. Chu.
Lu Xingmian felt that Lu Shiran was becoming more and more like a normal person, he even began to get jealous.
On their way home from the hospital, Lu Shiran asked him what he wanted for dinner.
Without hesitation, Lu Xingmian said anything but pig’s blood. He would even eat cilantro now if he had to.
With his hands on the steering wheel, Lu Shiran said, “Really? Then I’ll have Uncle Hou send some cilantro over right now. We’ll have a cilantro salad tonight.”
“Ge,” Lu Xingmian’s face suddenly turned the color of cilantro. “Can you not have Uncle Hou send it? He’s old, it’d be too much trouble for him to deliver just cilantro.”
“Zai Zai is so thoughtful,” Lu Shiran agreed with a nod. “Okay, I won’t have Uncle Hou send it. I’ll have someone else.”
Lu Xingmian: …That’s not what he meant.
Lu Xingmian said, “Ge…”
He stared at Lu Shiran with a pleading look. Lu Shiran teased him, “Say something nice.”
Lu Xingmian said, “Laogong.”
Lu Shiran’s hands on the steering wheel trembled slightly.
Lu Xingmian had always claimed that Lu Shiran’s voice was the most beautiful in the world, while Lu Shiran believed his boyfriend’s voice was the most beautiful.
Sometimes it was clear and sweet, sometimes soft and gentle, and other times stubborn and firm, but no matter what kind of voice it was, Lu Shiran loved it.
Now Lu Xingmian was using his softest voice to call him “Laogong,” and Lu Shiran felt his entire body melt.
Lu Xingmian continued to plead, “Laogong, please, can we not eat cilantro?”
Lu Shiran replied, “Okay, okay. No cilantro.”
Who could resist Lu Xingmian like this? Forget about cilantro, he’d even give Lu Xingmian his life if he asked for it.
Lu Xingmian was delighted and finally free from both pig’s blood and cilantro. He didn’t even realize Lu Shiran had been teasing him the whole time.
He just thought that Lu Shiran was in a great mood now. He had been jealous after leaving the hospital but now his face was full of smiles. His brother’s smile was truly beautiful.
Lu Xingmian picked up his phone and pretended to look at it, but the camera was aimed at the hands on the steering wheel. Relying on the silent mode, he snapped several photos.
On the phone screen appeared a pair of long, elegant hands, flawless from every angle, both handsome and filled with warmth.
Lu Xingmian put his phone away feeling content and completely unaware that his small actions had been noticed by the person next to him.
Soon the two of them arrived back at their apartment complex.
In the elevator, Lu Xingmian noticed that Lu Shiran had pressed the wrong floor. Thinking it was a mistake, he stepped forward and pressed the correct one.
Lu Shiran just smiled. “I’m taking you somewhere first.”
Not knowing what he was up to, Lu Xingmian obediently followed him out of the elevator. He figured Lu Shiran was just visiting a friend who lived in the building.
When they stood in front of a door, Lu Shiran took a key card out of his pocket and said, “Zai Zai, you open the door.”
Lu Xingmian opened the door in confusion.
The apartments in the building were all single-unit per floor, with spacious and well-designed layouts. The room was bright and clean but it looked uninhabited, and the furniture was mostly brand new.
Lu Xingmian noticed the decor was strangely similar to the apartment they lived in upstairs.
He immediately understood. This was another one of Lu Shiran’s properties.
“Is this your apartment too?” Lu Xingmian asked.
“Zai Zai, this is your apartment.” Lu Shiran said as he placed the key card and keys in Lu Xingmian’s hand.
Looking at the items in his hand, Lu Xingmian was stunned. “Huh?”
“The owner of this apartment is you now. It’s your place.” Lu Shiran had brought him here as soon as he finished all the paperwork.
“Ge, you…” Lu Xingmian started.
Lu Shiran interrupted, “Zai Zai, I don’t have a key to this place. From now on, if you ever get angry and want to run away from home, you can come here. It will make me feel at ease knowing you’re safe. Don’t worry, I don’t have a key, so as long as you don’t want me to and as long as you don’t open the door, I can’t get in.”
Lu Xingmian’s heart felt as if it were soaking in a bath of lemon water. He understood now; Lu Shiran had taken his words that day to heart.
Before he could speak, Lu Shiran quickly said, “Zai Zai, please don’t refuse, okay? If I give you my salary card later, are you going to refuse that too?”
“That’s not the same thing.” Lu Xingmian said.
Lu Shiran hugged him from behind. “Zai Zai, I want to marry you and take care of you for the rest of my life. Is that okay?”
It took Lu Xingmian a moment to process this, then he calmly replied, “Are you proposing to me?”
Lu Shiran froze. He had gotten carried away. How could he just casually propose to Lu Xingmian like this? It had to be a formal proposal in a proper setting.
Just as Lu Shiran was about to explain, Lu Xingmian touched the ring on his finger and said shyly, “I thought you were proposing last time.”
Lu Shiran widened his eyes as he hugged Lu Xingmian excitedly. “Zai Zai, so you already said yes? You’re willing to marry me?”
Lu Xingmian’s voice was soft. “If I weren’t willing, why would I have let you put the ring on me?”
Lu Xingmian had never been in a relationship before and he genuinely thought that Lu Shiran was proposing to him at that time.
Lu Shiran was as excited as a child. He picked Lu Xingmian up and spun him around. “Zai Zai, it’s my fault. I’m so stupid. I should have proposed to you properly a long time ago.”
What kind of angel was his Lu Xingmian? He was so adorable.
Lu Shiran carried Lu Xingmian on a tour of the apartment while asking if there was anything he didn’t like about the decor or furniture, assuring him that anything could be changed to his liking.
Lu Xingmian spotted a vase on a cabinet in the living room and felt a sense of familiarity; it had the same antique look as the one he had accidentally broken.
“Ge, don’t lie to me, is that vase an antique?”
Lu Shiran chuckled. “I won’t lie. Yes, it is.”
“Are you not afraid I’ll accidentally break this one too if you put it here?” Lu Xingmian asked.
“It’s fine. We have more at home. You can break them all if you want.” Lu Shiran replied.
Lu Xingmian was speechless. ‘Break them all if you want’? Lu Shiran was such a spendthrift.
Lu Xingmian went to the balcony and mentioned he wanted to plant some flowers and maybe get a swing as well.
Lu Shiran said they could do it tomorrow. He also planned to install a swing on the balcony upstairs. He was worried that if a swing was only installed here, Lu Xingmian would never want to go back home.
After spending half an hour downstairs, they went back up. The moment they stepped out of the elevator, they saw the Lu parents knocking on their door.
There was a driver holding bags full of things with them.
It seemed they had been there for quite a while already. With no answer, Mother Lu was about to call Lu Shiran.
Just then, they heard Lu Shiran and Lu Xingmian’s voices.
“Dad, Mom, what are you doing here?” Lu Shiran asked.
“Hello, Uncle and Auntie.” Lu Xingmian greeted them.
Seeing Lu Xingmian, Mother Lu went up and took his hand while fussing over him. “Xingmian, you’re not hurt, are you? Do you feel unwell anywhere?”
Lu Xingmian looked at Lu Shiran in confusion. What was going on? He didn’t quite understand what Mother Lu was saying.
Lu Shiran immediately realized that Lu Yu, that bigmouth, must have told them about Lu Xingmian’s rescue. His parents rarely watched videos and the video was no longer available online, so they shouldn’t have seen it.
However, Lu Shiran was wrong this time; it wasn’t Lu Yu who had told them. It was his niece, Xiao Youzi who did. That day, Xiao Youzi had told her grandma that her little uncle was really cool.
Mother Lu asked how her little uncle was cool.
Xiao Youzi said he had been a hero. Although she was young, she was a great storyteller and explained how Lu Xingmian had saved the little boy.
After hearing the story, Mother Lu grew anxious and quickly asked Lu Yu, who was nearby, when this had happened.
And that’s why the Lu parents were now at the apartment.
As soon as they entered, Mother Lu began her series of questions.
Lu Xingmian reassured her that he was fine and wasn’t hurt.
Mother Lu believed him. She knew that if Lu Xingmian had been harmed in any way, Lu Shiran would have been more anxious than anyone. If something had truly happened to Lu Xingmian, Lu Shiran wouldn’t be this calm.
Lu Shiran had initially stopped them from seeing Lu Xingmian because he was worried they would scare him.
Still, Mother Lu was very worried. She knew how dangerous the situation was from what Lu Yu had told her and she kept telling Lu Xingmian to be careful if he ever ran into a similar situation again.
Lu Xingmian obediently said, “Auntie, don’t worry, I will be careful.”
Seeing how well-behaved Lu Xingmian was, Mother Lu’s heart ached for him even more.
The Lu parents had brought many things with them and they’re all for Lu Xingmian.
Knowing that Lu Xingmian liked seafood, they brought him butter crab, as well as abalone and dried fish maw that they had treasured for years.
Therefore Lu Shiran invited his parents to stay for dinner.
While eating the crab, Lu Shiran peeled it for Lu Xingmian, he carefully took out the meat and placed it on a plate. He watched him eat with a doting expression while Lu Xingmian ate with gusto, which gave Lu Shiran a great sense of satisfaction.
Seeing how well their son was taking care of him, Mother Lu felt relieved.
In fact, Mother Lu had already noticed the changes in Lu Xingmian and knew that Lu Shiran was good at taking care of people. Lu Shiran was becoming more and more grounded.
When Lu Shiran was seeing them off, Mother Lu quietly asked her son when they were getting married.
Lu Shiran said soon.
Hearing this, Mother Lu was finally at ease. When Lu Shiran said “soon,” it meant it was already in their plans, so it must be close.
As the Lu parents were leaving, they repeated, “Treat Lu Xingmian well. Don’t you dare bully him.”
When he was back inside, Lu Xingmian was on the balcony thinking about the best place to install the swing.
Lu Shiran hugged him from behind.
“What are you doing?” Lu Xingmian asked.
“Nothing,” Lu Shiran said. “I just missed you.”
That night, Lu Xingmian’s stomach was full and even a little bloated.
Lu Shiran rubbed his stomach and said, “Zai Zai, are you pregnant?”
“Stop it,” Lu Xingmian said. “I’m just stuffed!”
Lu Shiran was so annoying. He knew very well that Lu Xingmian couldn’t get pregnant but he always teased him.
“I must not be trying hard enough,” Lu Shiran said while carrying him into the study. “Zai Zai, let’s try a little harder.”
Lu Xingmian couldn’t take it anymore. “Lu Shiran, you’re wearing a condom. You can try all you want, and it’s still useless!”
“Oh, I see now.” Lu Shiran said.
“What do you see? Hey, you… Ge, stop…”
aaaaa we’re nearing the end 😭😭
