HTLCCBFT Chapter 11

Has The Lord’s Career Chart Been Filled Today? – Chapter 11

Before the first chime of dawn’s bell rang, the biological clock set by Oliver’s game system had already awakened him punctually.

Had there been a timepiece more accurate than the mechanical clock in the bell tower, its hands would undoubtedly point to six in the morning at this moment.

After ample rest, Oliver felt thoroughly energized throughout his body—a sensation he recognized clearly even without checking his fully replenished stamina bar.

Just as the spirited golden-haired lord habitually moved toward the windowsill to admire the territory he had worked hard to… excavate over the past two days, his peripheral vision caught an unexpected shadow.

Huh?

Oliver couldn’t help but turn back toward the Cat God—the God of Wealth statue—that he had placed by his bedside the previous night, positioned to face him. His gaze instantly fixed upon its slightly plump, rounded paw pad.

The stern-faced God of Wealth’s upturned paw pad, which had been empty last night, now conspicuously held a gold ingot!

A gold ingot!

The lord’s clear, water-blue eyes suddenly sparkled with light.

Though temporarily unusable, Oliver knew well that gold ingots—essential materials for crafting advanced items in the game system during later stages—were certainly the more, the better.

Especially in the context of Laina City’s current destitution, utterly lacking gold or silver mines.

Staring at this gift from the wealth statue, Oliver’s beautiful blue eyes shone brightly, seemingly glittering with the light of a miser’s delight.

After examining the gold ingot briefly, he decisively stored it in his game backpack—equivalent to placing it in the safest location.

“This is truly wonderful.”

A slight curve graced Oliver’s lips as he unconsciously stroked the Cat God’s smooth paw pad, his heart filled with joy.

After all, to him, this meant that the daily gifts from the God of Wealth statue had not ceased to function, even in the real world.

If it was a gold ingot today, what about tomorrow? Could copper ingots, silver ingots, or even gemstones be far behind?

Oliver’s mood soared even higher.

Of course, he forcibly restrained himself—absolutely refusing to dwell on the immense wealth he had missed during those days when he forgot to retrieve the statue.

In his eyes now, this unique God of Wealth statue was truly the most adorable and generous cat in the world.

Fosse watched with curiosity and concern as his lord, who had awoken early and personally descended the steps to pick several flowers from the castle garden before returning to his room.

Oliver offered no immediate explanation to the old butler, instead solemnly arranging the freshly picked beautiful flowers on the Cat God’s paw pad, creating a semblance of ceremonial worship.

“Thank you for your gifts, Cat God.”

After cheerfully completing the flower offering, he kissed the right paw pad before storing the deity statue back into his game backpack.

Although the castle was his territory, with his unfamiliarity regarding his surroundings, only the game backpack—completely under his sole control—remained the safest place.

The loyal and perceptive butler Fosse ultimately failed to discern the source of the Angel Duke’s good mood this time.

Meanwhile, the slaves who had begun working in the fields early in the morning were utterly astounded by the scene before them! No one knew how many people couldn’t help but rub their eyes repeatedly, thinking their vision was playing tricks on them—the seeds personally sown by the lord just last night had actually sprouted tender green shoots after just one short night!

Oliver, who had already noticed this when picking flowers in the garden earlier, wasn’t surprised but rather delighted.

Of course, this was actually a double-edged sword.

It meant that the corn seeds he had sown completely retained the rapid growth trait of the game system’s seeds—requiring only fourteen days to fully mature, producing one ear of corn, and every four days thereafter, yielding a new ear.

They would continue from summer until autumn, only to wither instantly when winter arrived.

Yet the actual summer and winter in reality were three times longer than in the game—meaning Laina City could harvest a massive quantity of corn before winter arrived.

The corn alone would be more than enough to feed the entire city.

However, the drawback was equally evident: unlike crops in the real world, which could leave some seeds after maturity to sow again the following summer.

The magical seeds from the game system had one major flaw—they couldn’t be directly preserved as seeds but had to be converted using the game system’s seed production machine.

As for the recipe for the seed production machine?

—It would only unlock when the farmer profession reached nearly max level at level 9. Not to mention the core materials required included a gold ingot he had just obtained today from the Cat God.

Level 9—how many crops would he need to harvest to reach that?

At this thought, Oliver’s lighthearted joy immediately diminished. He decisively turned to butler Fosse and instructed, “Fosse, make sure everyone below remembers that these divine gift crops can only be harvested by my own hands.”

Fosse hesitated for a moment, then nodded in response, “I understand, Your Highness.”

Oliver nodded with satisfaction.

The lush green spread across the ground, in his eyes, was a vast cornfield that would all mature together in fourteen days.

Oliver couldn’t help but lose himself in the vision of frantically harvesting at that time.

It was only after a while that he noticed the intense gazes from outside the window, secretly directed at him, now carried deep awe and fervent reverence.

Whether it was the hoes and pickaxes materialized out of thin air, the effortless and skilled manner, the compassionate and benevolent heart, the pure and beautiful appearance… everything they had witnessed with their own eyes was an incredible divine miracle.

Yet Oliver had no intention of personally stepping up to impersonate some deity.

He frowned slightly and, after stepping away from the windowsill, finally remembered to ask about an important matter he had deliberately or inadvertently overlooked: “By the way, what’s the situation with the temple in Laina City?”

Where a bell tower could be built, the presence of a Temple of Light was almost an ironclad rule.

But Oliver had been in Laina City for three days now and had never seen a priest, nor heard anyone mention one, nor even witnessed the heavily locked temple doors open.

“Your Highness,” Fosse bowed his head and replied, “Since the last priest died of plague, the main temple in the royal capital has never sent anyone here again.”

Of course, it was because every priest who could remain in the main temple of the royal capital had a promising future ahead—how could any of them be willing to come to such a poor, remote place where offerings were meager at best? Oliver blinked in astonishment.

The last epidemic that had swept through Laina City was a year ago… which meant the temple had been left vacant for an entire year?

Oliver fell into thoughtful contemplation.

For him, this was actually the best possible scenario.

Whether for the sake of all the lives in Laina City or to create a more comfortable living environment for himself, he was destined to implement sweeping reforms.

His dual identity as both Duke and Lord inherently symbolized supreme authority within Laina City.

However, if there were a priest constantly opposing him and meddling in his affairs, many initiatives would face significant obstacles.

In that case…

A subtle curve touched Oliver’s lips.

—Why not be even bolder? While the main temple still hadn’t sent anyone to fill the position, he could simply occupy it with that truly miraculous statue of the God of Wealth.

He had no desire to impersonate a deity, but he didn’t mind posing as God’s earthly messenger to gain more operational convenience.

When the beautiful Lord with golden hair shining like sunlight appeared, everyone couldn’t help but pause their work, gazing at him with reverent affection while holding their breath in anticipation.

The noble and elegant Duke had deliberately changed into those extravagant robes—usually stored away due to their excessive opulence—before making his formal appearance.

Countless glittering gems adorned the light purple velvet, delicate gold thread edged the garments, and rare animal fur decorated the cuffs… Yet amidst all this dazzling splendor illuminated by brilliant sunshine, nothing could compare to that pure white face bearing a gentle smile, as holy and beautiful as an angel’s.

“I know what you wish to ask.”

A faint smile graced Oliver’s lips, his gaze profound, his voice deliberately made distant and ethereal: “Listen! The divine decree I received in my dreams…”

Oliver knew it wasn’t yet time to reveal the God of Wealth statue from his backpack in the temple—after all, the beckoning cat’s charmingly naive appearance lacked any sense of dignity or sanctity.

It would be better to first establish the God of Wealth’s majestic image in people’s hearts before placing the Cat God statue in the temple.

Until then, those marvelous items from the game system would serve as the most compelling evidence to convince believers.

Oliver understood that in Laina City, where most people were illiterate, to quickly spread the so-called ‘divine oracle,’ simple, memorable prayer songs would work far better than lengthy, convoluted compositions filled with flowery but incomprehensible language.

Cunningly, he borrowed the melody from some hymn he’d once heard somewhere, then obscured the key element of the deity’s name using Chinese.

After all, in people’s eyes, the more mysterious something was, the more magnificent it became.

Then, before everyone’s watchful eyes, this Angel Duke—so beautiful he seemed to glow—solemnly composed a melodious, sacred-sounding… Cat God song.

As he slightly lowered his exquisite brows and sang gently, to all those listening in rapturous belief, it sounded far more melodious and ethereal than any nightingale’s song.

It must be the power of God. When Oliver sang for the second time, those with the best memory and who were fully immersed couldn’t help but join in the singing.

Of course, they didn’t understand the meaning of the sacred name of the God who presides over wealth, yet they reverently mimicked the lord’s pronunciation and faithfully followed along in prayer and praise.

“Fields, forests, rivers! Oh Laina City, mother who nurtures humanity! All kind-hearted and diligent humans, the benevolent God of Wealth—Cat God—will bless you. Under the protection of the Cat God, vast fertile lands will see grains grow strong and berries abound! Great Cat God! Please shelter the barley and white wheat as they sprout ears, bringing a bountiful harvest in autumn… For the fields cultivated with human care, grant abundant crops! We are willing to offer all our faith, singing praises of the God’s greatness in the days blessed by the benevolent Cat God, bathed in the Cat God’s grace, grateful for all the great Cat God has done for us!”
