Chapter 13: Wedding
Cheng Qianyu was Han Jin’s lifelong calamity. Before meeting Cheng Qianyu, he was the most typical kind of rich playboy, a flirt who loved to show off and was never serious about anyone. After meeting Cheng Qianyu, he became uncontrollably infatuated with her. He even settled down from his ‘player’ ways, revolving only around her every day.
He also learned that Cheng Qianyu and Zhou Zizheng were childhood sweethearts.
Cheng Qianyu had a crush on Zhou Zizheng for many years but never received a response.
Han Jin was both happy and angry that Zhou Zizheng didn’t like his goddess: Why not? His goddess is the most beautiful in the world, so why couldn’t that brat appreciate her? It wasn’t until Zhou Zizheng openly disclosed his sexual orientation that Han Jin finally understood and realized why.
Okay, then his goddess was completely out of luck. Han Jin pursued her even more fiercely, but his previous reputation was too bad, and compared to Zhou Zizheng, it was like heaven and earth. Once, Cheng Qianyu was so annoyed by his harassment that she said many hurtful things.
The most heartbreaking line was: “Han Jin, you don’t measure up to even one percent of Zhou Zizheng.”
Since then, Han Jin has been heartbroken. He never mentioned Cheng Qianyu again and forbade others from doing so. But this didn’t stop him from transferring his anger to Zhou Zizheng.
He had always known that his good friend, Yu Haozhou, and Zhou Zizheng didn’t get along.
At that time, he thought to himself, Great, having a common enemy with my good brother is so cool.
He devised a bunch of prank plans targeting Zhou Zizheng, rubbing his hands together, eagerly anticipating the sight of Zhou Zizheng making a fool of himself. But then he discovered that Zhou Zizheng seemed to have the ability to foresee the future, always managing to perfectly avoid all those obstacles.
After a long time, even the slow-witted Han Jin realized something was wrong.
He was reluctant to suspect Yu Haozhou, but there were no other possibilities. So he secretly followed Yu Haozhou and discovered that he was indeed anonymously writing small notes and secretly hiding them in places Zhou Zizheng could find.
The moment he learned the truth, Han Jin was furious, thinking he should know better. He had known his good brother’s sexual orientation for a long time. But he couldn’t understand why he had fallen for his sworn enemy and loved him so cautiously!
Han Jin didn’t understand why everyone and anyone would fall for Zhou Zizheng. From then on, he disliked Zhou Zizheng even more and absolutely forbade Yu Haozhou from getting involved with him. He had already lost his goddess; he couldn’t afford to lose his good brother, too.
The moment he learned they were getting married, he felt like his world was collapsing.
But still, Han Jin felt there was hope then; all he had to do was relentlessly interfere with their relationship.
As a result, Zhou Zizheng suddenly became someone he dared not provoke.
It’s true what they say: comparisons are odious; he’d never won against Zhou Zizheng in his entire life.
Han Jin didn’t dare to hide anything, so he only mentioned a few less inflammatory points.
Zhou Zizheng remained silent while Han Jin tried to make amends: “I’ll go explain to him right now and say all that stuff was made up!”
“No need,” Zhou Zizheng pondered, “just make sure you don’t talk nonsense in front of him again in the future.”
“Got it,” Han Jin replied quickly, then carefully probed, “Then, Brother Zhou, about my goddess—”
Zhou Zizheng hung up immediately. Han Jin exclaimed, “I knew he was bluffing!”
Zhou Zizheng found Cheng Qianyu’s number in his contacts and dialed it.
She answered instantly, asking in confusion, “Brother Zheng?”
“It’s been a while,” Zhou Zizheng spoke formally, making polite conversation. “How have you been doing lately?”
“So-so,” Cheng Qianyu chuckled. “Why did you suddenly think to call me?”
The two had supported each other, moving from their county town to the capital for university. Their bond was irreplaceable. It was just that at some point, they gradually went their separate ways, moving from being able to talk about anything to a point where even an occasional phone call felt strange.
Time truly is the most cruel weapon.
“I’m getting married.”
The news was unexpected. It was like a thunderclap next to her ear, numbing half her body. It took Cheng Qianyu a moment to say, “Congratulations.”
She tentatively asked, “Is it Yu Haozhou?”
Zhou Zizheng said, “Yes.”
“Then congratulations on getting what you wished for.” Cheng Qianyu sincerely wished him happiness in finding his true love.
The moment she learned his sexual orientation, Cheng Qianyu had already let go of her obsession with him and slowly distanced herself. She clearly knew that if she stayed by Zhou Zizheng’s side, she would never be able to forget him, and she didn’t want to be a love-struck fool.
So, after graduating in June this year, she decisively returned to her hometown for further studies. She originally wanted to be an ordinary rural teacher, but… it seemed there had been a slight accident.
She looked down at her still-flat stomach, deep in thought.
“When is the wedding? I will definitely be there!”
Hearing the relaxed tone in her voice, Zhou Zizheng also felt a little relieved: “September 16th.”
Knowing that Han Jin still had feelings for her, Zhou Zizheng kindly warned her, “Han Jin will also be there that day. If you don’t want to see him, I can arrange for someone to keep your times separate.”
“It’s fine, no need,” Cheng Qianyu said calmly. “I actually need to talk to him about something.”
“Alright,” Zhou Zizheng had no habit of prying into others’ private lives, so he didn’t press further. After chatting a bit more, he hung up.

On September 16th, the largest hotel in the center of the capital city was booked by the Xie family. Hundreds of luxury cars, dozens of drones for filming, and red envelopes scattered like fine rain—everything screamed wealth.
As soon as the news of the family reunion banquet and the marriage alliance between the two young masters of the Xie and Yu families was released, countless netizens flocked to the platforms, causing them to crash.
It was unknown what kind of sensation was happening outside. Inside the groom’s lounge, the newlyweds had finished many complicated procedures and finally got some free time, no longer having to meet anyone.
Yu Haozhou had been pulled up for hair and makeup before 4 a.m. and was now lying on the sofa like a dead fish, exhausted and asleep. Zhou Zizheng was massaging his calves. The lounge was quiet; you could hear a pin drop.
Suddenly, some noisy commotion came from the hallway, and Zhou Zizheng vaguely heard his father’s voice.
The door wasn’t fully closed. Yu Haozhou was disturbed by the noise, frowned slightly, rolled over, covered his ears, and continued to sleep.
Zhou Zizheng settled him down, tiptoed to the door, and closed it very softly.
In the hallway, his father’s voice was amplified: “Get this person out of here right away; don’t let him in!”
Zhou Zizheng looked back and saw two hotel security guards escorting a young man toward the ground floor. His mouth was covered, so he couldn’t speak, but upon seeing Zhou Zizheng, he became very agitated, his eyes wide and round.
Zhou Zizheng walked over, puzzled: “What’s wrong, Dad? What did this person do?”
A rare trace of guilt flashed in Father Xie’s eyes, and he gave a dry laugh: “It’s nothing; I just found him acting suspiciously, sneaking around. I was afraid he would offend our distinguished guests, so I had people chase him out.”
Zhou Zizheng didn’t think much of it: “Okay, there’s no need to carry him like that; just escort him out.”
Father Xie agreed while giving the two security guards a meaningful look, urging them to quickly take the elevator and send him away.
The next second, the elevator door opened in front of them.
Madam Xie stepped out, her face stern. She pointed to the two bodyguards: “Bring him over. I want to ask him a few questions.”
Father Xie was about to speak, but Madam Xie had already turned to warn him, “If you dare to interfere, I don’t mind letting the whole country know about the disgraceful things you’ve done.”
A look of weariness appeared on Father Xie’s face. He fell silent, letting her take the person away.
Zhou Zizheng disliked this feeling of being kept in the dark. He asked directly, “Dad, what’s going on?”
Father Xie was hesitant and refused to speak. Zhou Zizheng could actually guess a little.
In wealthy families, illegitimate children are common. And that person seemed to be about the same age as himself.
Zhou Zizheng had no right to criticize his father, but he was a little worried about Madam Xie.
He nodded to Father Xie and went to Madam Xie’s lounge. The door wasn’t locked—perhaps his mother had deliberately left it open for him to eavesdrop.
Zhou Zizheng heard his mother ask the boy his name.
“Wu Yichen.”
Madam Xie then asked, “How much do you know about the situation back then?”
Before Zhou Zizheng was kidnapped by enemies, Father Xie and Madam Xie’s marriage was already on the rocks. However, Madam Xie’s family background was powerful, and she herself was strong-willed. She allowed Father Xie to have affairs outside but did not permit him to produce illegitimate children.
When she gave birth to Zhou Zizheng, Madam Xie’s health was damaged, and she could no longer bear children. All her hopes were placed on Zhou Zizheng. Therefore, she absolutely would not allow the emergence of an illegitimate child to threaten Zhou Zizheng’s status.
Thus, in those years, Madam Xie was particularly ruthless in dealing with mistresses.
Anyone involved with Father Xie who tried to secretly give birth to a child was essentially forcibly taken away for an abortion by her.
They would then be given a large sum of money and tossed into some unknown corner to live out the rest of their lives.
So, Madam Xie was very curious about how Wu Yichen’s birth mother had managed to hide from her network of spies.
Wu Yichen shook his head, saying he didn’t know either. “If you don’t believe me, you can draw my blood for a DNA test.”
Madam Xie thought there was no need; his facial features bore some resemblance to Father Xie’s, making him easily recognizable.
“Why have you come? What do you want?”
Madam hadn’t felt this kind of anxiety about a potential threat in a long time. She wanted to resolve this as soon as possible; after all, today was her son’s wedding.
Wu Yichen ran a hand through his messy hair and held up two slightly dirty fingers: “200,000. I want 200,000. Give it to me, and I’ll leave immediately!”
If it was just about money, the matter would be easier to handle, but the fear was that the demand for money might be a bottomless pit.
“I will give you 1,000,000. From now on, you are not to appear in front of us again. Can you do that?”
Wu Yichen didn’t know what the concept of the richest family meant; he only knew they were very wealthy.
He thought asking for 200,000 was already excessive, afraid Madam Xie wouldn’t give it, and he was even prepared to bargain. But Madam Xie directly offered him 1,000,000. Wu Yichen was so delighted he was completely disoriented. Taking this gamble really had paid off. He finally had enough money to support Xu Yi’s university education!
Taking the card Madam Xie handed over, Wu Yichen couldn’t wait to leave and check how much money was inside.
As he pushed the door open and stepped out, he didn’t see Zhou Zizheng. All his focus was on the card he clutched with great affection.
Zhou Zizheng hesitated for a moment, then called his bodyguard.
“Please help me keep an eye on a little beggar. Inform me immediately of any news.”
