HTLCCBFT Chapter 189

Has The Lord’s Career Chart Been Filled Today? – Chapter 189

After hearing the warning from the golden-haired deity, the previously stiff black cat suddenly woke up.

“What a rude fellow.”

Dave, the God of Death, grumbled discontentedly.

This was exactly why he hated approaching these newly emerged gods—they were rough, impolite, and completely ignorant of the subtle rules all gods quietly observed.

It often led to extremely unpleasant situations where they would offend other deities, yet act completely calm and innocent when the offended party came seeking answers in anger.

“Do you think I want to be here? It was Havest who requested me!”

Dave was clearly uncomfortable in this unfamiliar form, but to understand why this annoying fellow preferred taking a cat’s form, he reluctantly endured it.

Though somewhat worried this rude god might act unpredictably and actually attack him, Dave inexplicably didn’t want to leave just yet.

Why?

The black cat twitched its ears in confusion.

He still disliked this God of Wealth, but… this small, dim human room strangely carried a scent that felt very comfortable to him.

Was it because of this beautiful human?

He examined with critical eyes this human whose beauty even gods couldn’t fault—as if delicately woven from the softest glow of dawn. Finally, he nodded reluctantly, conceding to the God of Wealth’s taste.

—Indeed beautiful.

If this human possessed intelligence matching his extraordinary beauty—which surpassed even many gods—he wouldn’t mind having him convert to his faith and acknowledge him as his chosen.

However, the rose fragrance in this room was far too strong, wasn’t it?

His sense of smell seemed more sensitive in this cat form.

The God of Death, who normally automatically blocked out various unpleasant human scents, now clearly detected this overly rich rose fragrance that felt somewhat familiar.

…It reminded him of that annoying Rose God who, relying on his ability to make roses bloom at will, constantly lingered around the elegant and beautiful god-king.

If he didn’t know the Rose God didn’t look like this, and that with his limited divine power he couldn’t possibly deceive his divine eyes, he might have suspected this so-called “human” was the Rose God’s transformed appearance after awakening.

Meanwhile, in Oliver’s eyes—completely unaware of the god’s scheming—this was just an adorable, clumsy cat speaking arrogant human words while pretending to be proud.

Its movements, which should have been graceful, appeared somewhat stiff and awkward due to the mismatched consciousness, making it endearingly clumsy.

Although the divine name “Deyth” had been mentioned several times by the cat god, and he had even personally brushed off the residual divine power left on the cat god—like black ash from a chimney left uncleaned for years—this was truly his first time encountering another deity.

Containing his curiosity, Oliver watched intently as the black cat moved haltingly, descending from the windowsill with none of a cat’s expected agility. Instead, its hind legs suddenly slipped, nearly causing it to tumble down embarrassingly… while he habitually revealed his gentle smile.

After barely steadying himself, Deyth instinctively looked up the next moment, wanting to ensure his detestable rival (yes, after these recent encounters, the God of Wealth had been gloriously promoted to his arch-nemesis) hadn’t witnessed his stumble—only to crash directly into a pair of blue eyes as clear and beautiful as gemstones.

He froze in surprise.

His sharp claws had scraped off some paint from the decorative wooden trim by the glass window, but of course he paid it no mind.

He tentatively took a few steps, eyes fixed intently on the strange human favored by the God of Wealth. Then, upon confirming that the human’s gaze was indeed following his movements and remained accurately locked on him, he could no longer contain himself.

His previously swaying long tail abruptly stiffened, and in the next instant puffed up into a fluffy state. His voice suddenly rose sharply, unable to conceal his shock and suspicion: “Human, you can actually see me?!”

How was this possible!

After walking the mortal realm for so long, this was the first time Deyth had his understanding so thoroughly overturned.

Unless a deity intentionally manifested before humans, how could anyone possibly see a divine body?!

“And your soul!”

In his divine eyes that could see through all disguises, how could a mere human’s soul be so bright!

Suspicious and unsettled, he took a large step forward—but forgot he was still in cat form, instantly turning the “step” into a “tumble.”

A furry charcoal ball thus tumbled dizzily all the way until it reached Oliver’s feet.

Instinctively, Oliver wanted to pick up this seemingly badly tumbled clumsy cat, but fortunately reason reminded him in time. Meanwhile, the watchful cat god promptly reached out and smacked him flying away.

“Smack.”

With a crisp sound, while the cat god deliberately controlled his divine power output, the God of Death—who hadn’t yet recovered from the shock and utter humiliation of “tumbling before a human”—was sharply smacked against the wall.

The black cat spread out like a flattened pancake against the wall, then slid down limply.

Oliver: “……”

For a moment, he didn’t know whether to be shocked by the cat god’s rare ferocity or marvel at how this “Divine War” vividly recreated a famous scene from a certain children’s cartoon.

The expressionless Cat-eared God stood up, preparing to directly toss that puddle of “cat mush” back to the divine realm.

Just then, Oliver somewhat regained his senses and grabbed one of his hands, stopping the God of Wealth who had unexpectedly revealed a fierce side.

“Aren’t you two friends?” he asked puzzled. “You even left my side specifically to talk to him before.”

Or was the way gods expressed friendship through mutual provocation and beating?

The black cat lay listlessly on the ground, only a pair of shocked black eyes still fixed on him, not even caring about his most hated God of Wealth anymore.

Hearing Oliver’s words, the Cat-eared God quickly responded.

“Not friends.”

He pressed his lips into a slightly downturned line, his fluffy ears alertly rotating into radar ears.

His sharp golden pupils glared unfriendly at the uninvited guest still lingering on their bedroom floor, emphasizing:

“Deyth is not my friend.”

“Shameless!”

For the first time, the God of Death found himself in such an unlucky and wretched state. After being repeatedly shown disdain by his archrival, he could no longer endure it.

He was so enraged that he even forgot about the strange human, his fur bristling all over as he shouted, “Who would want to be friends with you?! If it weren’t for Havest’s request, I would never have come looking for you, the most detestable creature!”

Yet his fury was like a dewdrop falling on a tree leaf at dawn.

With a faint, almost inaudible “plop,” it was casually shaken off by the resilient leaf.

The Cat-eared God narrowed his eyes impatiently.

Of course, he hadn’t forgotten the goddess’s assistance—she had, after all, provided him with much experience to smoothly grow closer to Oliver… Moreover, he didn’t wish to display the ferocious side that Oliver seemed to dislike in front of his beloved little companion.

After a brief contemplation, he imperceptibly reined in the hostility that had erupted from being disturbed and calmly walked up to Deyth, perfectly blocking the other’s line of sight to Oliver. “Speak.”

“Hmph.”

A wisp of black mist appeared out of thin air and quickly dissipated.

The death divine power, saturated with despair and fear, coalesced once more as Deyth resumed his most commonly used divine body form.

Forcing himself to ignore the peculiarities about the beautiful human for now, he sat coldly on the windowsill, his limbs appearing relaxed yet poised with vigilance. “Havest has entered divine slumber.”

He spoke succinctly, a flicker of annoyance and weariness passing through his dark pupils.

However, this annoyance wasn’t directed at the Cat-eared God.

“She insisted I relay a few words to you.”

His eyelids lowered slightly, showing no trace of sorrow or loss over losing yet another friend, and he softly repeated her words: “‘My new companion, I deeply appreciate your thoughtfulness in preserving my divine temple, but it is no longer necessary. Cherish your goal.’”

After waiting quietly in faint hope for so long, despite her power still being abundant, the Goddess of Harvest had decided to fully follow in the god-king’s footsteps, sinking into a slumber that might be an eternal wait.

Thinking of the rare, joyful smile Havest had worn as she closed her eyes…

Deyth’s eyelids drooped even lower.

His long lashes cast a shadow beneath his eyes, like the gloom and heavy aura of death lingering over a graveyard.

Before sinking into slumber, she had also shared a secret with him.

Though the sun still rises each day, its light grows dimmer with each passing day.

That is because the God of Light—Sunn[mfn]桑(Sāng) – ‘sun'[/mfn], who appears aloof but is deeply attached to the god-king, has also fallen into slumber.

A god born of light is, ironically, the least able to resist the darkness spreading within.

Before being completely swallowed by darkness, he chose to preserve a glimmer of hope, channeling his surging divine power into the sun before entering a solitary, long slumber.

“I will not give up.”

Deyth murmured to himself.

He would not fall into slumber.

He must continue to walk the mortal world until the moment his divine power completely dissipates… and with many followers still believing in him, that day is likely far, far in the future.

He can wait a long time yet!

Even if all his companions have fallen asleep, he will not give up.

“I must wait until His Majesty awakens.”

He proudly lifted his chin, looking at this foolish cat who stood guard so vigilantly before him yet had unfortunately never laid eyes on the god-king. The deity snorted with contempt.

This was actually the first time he had voiced his deepest hidden ambition: “When that day comes, I will be the first deity to stand by His Majesty’s side! I won’t compete with you for followers! You can keep clinging to this human you love so much!” No matter how strangely powerful his divine power might be, he was still just a pitiful creature who had never seen the god-king!

As soon as these words fell, the handsome black-haired young man smirked triumphantly and vanished instantly.

Oliver, who had been completely baffled throughout: “……”

Before he could process what happened, he quickly noticed that the cat god’s back remained tense, clearly not letting down his guard at all.

“Cat god?”

He tentatively asked.

The golden-haired deity’s expression darkened as if he might fly out at any moment: “Deyth is still lurking nearby.”

He had spread his divine power throughout every corner of Gregor City, so he knew very clearly – for some reason, the God of Death hadn’t gone far.

Sure enough.

Within the blink of an eye, a palm-sized “orb” emitting a soft glow identical to moonlight came rolling in through the window.

The golden-haired deity frowned slightly but didn’t stop it.

So Oliver watched in confusion as it rolled toward him, almost like an intelligent little creature, quickly landing on his instinctively opened palm.

The silver-glowing orb lay obediently on his pale, soft palm – it was hard to tell which appeared more lustrous and beautiful.

“Hey, strange human.”

The voice of the God of Death, who had delivered this “gift,” soon appeared in the bedroom, sounding somewhat lazy due to his casual tone, reaching the ears of both human and deity.

“Although you’ve caught that annoying fellow’s attention… you don’t disgust me…”

The voice’s owner paused, then said stiffly: “Consider this an apology for disturbing you tonight. Hmph, take it.”
