Posting this as I watch Artemis 2 lunar flyby <3. It’s so cooooool!!!
He dialed back his crying, tilted his head, and with his little mouth still pouting, looked at Pei Xu beside him. Pei Xu wasn’t not crying. He was just crying very quietly. His face expressionless, he looked at his drawing as tears streamed silently down his face. You could say his face was covered with tears. The little one had never seen such a cool way of crying. He was momentarily stunned.
Wow… so cool.
Su Youli stopped crying and focused on admiring Pei Qiqi’s cool crying style. Then Pei Qiqi noticed him. The cool little boy turned his head and wiped the tears from his face with force.
“What are you looking at?” Pei Xu asked fiercely after wiping his tears.
Su Youli wasn’t really scared. Based on previous experience, he felt that Pei Xu wasn’t actually that fierce. One candy could soothe him.
The little one’s long lashes were stuck together with tears. He asked in a soft voice, “Brother, you miss your father, don’t you?”
As he blinked, his eyes felt a bit prickly. He raised his small hands, covered in sand and mud, about to rub his face, but before his dirty little hand could reach it, the back of his hand was caught.
“Your hands are dirty! Don’t rub your eyes!”
Pei Xu’s voice was a bit gruff, but his hands were very gentle. He took a wet wipe from his pocket and carefully cleaned the little one’s hands.
“Thank you, brother,” the little one said, his voice soft.
Pei Xu still wasn’t used to talking to other children. When he heard the thanks, his small mouth pressed together, and then he said, “You’re welcome.”
That evening, when the three Shen men returned home, they learned that Youyou had made a good friend that day. During the evening video call with Su Siwen and Qin Kun, Youyou also told his fathers about it. Given the Shen family’s status and position, sending Su Youli to kindergarten would be a very simple matter. As for why Shen Minyan chose not to let Youyou go to kindergarten for the time being, it was because the little one had just arrived in Beicheng and was still very shy around strangers.
The better international kindergartens in Beicheng were difficult to get into; just the interviews alone required several rounds, and after enrollment, children had to participate in various educational training programs. Youyou was too young and rather timid. Before he had even adjusted to his new environment, putting him into another intense new setting for school would be too much.
Shen Lin deeply understood the pressure of studying; after all, even during summer break, he had to go to classes every day. For the first time, the three Shen men were in agreement. It would be better to postpone Youyou’s school start date by a few months. In the meantime, they could thoroughly research the kindergartens. Summer break wasn’t over yet. They would wait until Youyou had settled in.
After learning that Youyou had made a friend his own age, everyone expressed their support and encouraged him to invite his friend over to visit. The little one was very happy. Lying on Shen Minyan’s bed, holding his phone, he video-chatted with his two fathers far away in Nancheng. Yes, Shen Minyan had recently figured out how to win the little one over.
He had, of course, gotten Su Siwen and Qin Kun’s phone numbers earlier and had also added them on social media. Now, the little one slept with him two nights a week. Having the soft little toddler lying beside him softened Shen Minyan’s heart, which had been hard for half a lifetime. When he saw the little one rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand, Shen Minyan moved closer, placed his broad hand on the little one’s back, and patted gently with reduced force. Within moments, the little one, who had been so excited just moments ago, fell asleep, even letting out tiny snores.
“Shen Ge, thank you for your hard work,” Su Siwen said on the other end of the line.
Shen Minyan shook his head and asked in a low voice whether Su Siwen had gotten his passport ready. Now that the little one had been taken in, Qin Kun and Su Siwen had no more worries. They were preparing to go abroad to consult the overseas hospital their previous doctor had recommended.
Su Siwen nodded. “It’s done. The plane tickets are booked too.”
The room was warmly lit. Su Siwen looked almost greedily at Youyou’s sleeping face.
Shen Minyan’s fingertips moved slightly as he said in a deep voice, “Come see Youyou before you leave.”
Upon hearing this, Su Siwen was startled. He and Qin Kun had certainly thought about it, but now Youyou had his own home. Bringing up the idea of seeing Youyou so abruptly might make the Shen family overthink things.
Qin Kun also hadn’t expected Shen Minyan to be the one to suggest it. His handsome face showed emotion as he said, “Thank you, Shen Ge.”
Shen Minyan had long held a high position and had heard countless people say thank you to him. But never before had he felt so undeserving of those words.
The room fell silent. Shen Minyan cleared his throat lightly and said before hanging up, “Remember to send me your flight schedule.”
Su Siwen, on the other end, seemed to want to say something but hesitated. He glanced at Su Yuanzi rubbing against his pant leg, and then the call ended. Never mind, he’d send a message. Talking to Shen Ge on the phone was a bit awkward anyway. Early the next morning, as the little one rubbed his eyes and was carried by Shen Dad to wash up, he heard this wonderful news.
His fathers were coming to see him! The little one was overjoyed. He tugged at Shen Dad’s sleeve and said he wanted to call Kunkun.
Shen Minyan asked, “Why aren’t you calling your little Daddy?”
He had the impression that Youyou seemed more attached to Su Siwen. The little one had just finished brushing his teeth. He showed off his neat little white teeth to Shen Dad and, after receiving the expected praise, said, “Because little Daddy likes to sleep in~.”
Shen Minyan smiled. When he called, Su Siwen indeed hadn’t woken up yet. The little one got the exact news from Kunkun: his fathers would arrive in Beicheng in just two days. Su Youli jumped for joy in the walk-in closet.
Qin Kun rubbed his thumb over the little one’s curly hair on the screen and said mysteriously, “There’s also a gift for Youyou that day.”
Su Youli’s eyes lit up. “What gift?”
Qin Kun wagged his index finger. “If I tell you, it won’t be a surprise anymore.”
“Okay~”
Over the next two days, Su Youli spent every moment in anticipation, constantly saying, “My two fathers are coming to see me! And they have a surprise gift for me!”
Within a single day, everyone in the Shen household- the two young masters, the butler, the aunties, even the older siblings tending the garden- knew that the little young master’s two adoptive fathers would soon be visiting the Shen residence.
Every member of the Shen family deeply respected these two great benefactors who had rescued the little young master from a trash can and raised him so carefully for over three years, treating him as if he were their own son.
Without needing instructions from the butler, the servants mopped the floors and wiped the windows with extra vigor. The chefs carefully prepared several menus for the eldest young master, Shen Yan, to approve. On the morning of the flight’s departure, Su Youli woke up half an hour earlier than usual.
He sat up, stuck out his little bottom, reached out, and pinched his eldest brother’s nose. Cupping his hands around his mouth, he said in a sweet, milky voice, “Elder Brother, wake up! Youyou needs to go pick up his fathers!”
