ATULGW chapter 6

Delicate

The explosive news left Liang Song in a whirlwind, and it took him ten minutes to regain his composure.

As Baixi’s closest childhood friend, he was certainly aware of the history between Baixi and Qi Xun.

During their senior year of high school, Baixi would endlessly talk about Qi Xun to him. Liang Song’s ears almost bled from hearing about it every day, and he would even accompany Baixi to sneakily watch Qi Xun’s matches.

Baixi was so infatuated with Qi Xun that he would be practically starry-eyed in the audience. Liang Song, on the other hand, enjoyed admiring the charming female students around him and the whole college atmosphere.

At that time, he didn’t take Baixi’s secret crush on Qi Xun seriously.

Teenage infatuation is often fleeting, here today, gone tomorrow.

Baixi had several short-lived relationships during high school, none lasting more than three months. Not only did they part amicably, but he also wished his former partners well in finding their next significant others. He never thought that Baixi’s feelings for Qi Xun would last so long, for six years without changing.

This resulted in his dissatisfaction with Qi Xun.

His dissatisfaction was subjective, purely because he thought Qi Xun was blind. How could Qi Xun not realize how wonderful Baixi, such an attractive and well-behaved gay, was and why he hadn’t come to his senses?

But now, sitting in a noisy barbecue restaurant, Baixi told him that he was in a relationship with Qi Xun.

Liang Song crossed his arms and scrutinized Baixi’s face. He clicked his tongue.

He stared into Baixi’s eyes. “Explain it to me first. I haven’t seen you for a few days, and you’re already with Qi Xun? Did you confess to him?”

Baixi poked a piece of grilled potato in the dish with his chopsticks and didn’t dare to meet Liang Song’s eyes directly. “Well, not exactly…”

He cleared his throat and, in the noisy restaurant, slowly recounted what had happened in the past few days to Liang Song, starting from waking up at Qi Xun’s place to their agreement to start dating.

His voice became quieter as he continued, especially towards the end, because Liang Song’s gaze felt like it could burn a hole in his face, and his brows were furrowed so tightly that he seemed ready to strangle a fly.

“Anyway, this is how it is. We decided to give our relationship a chance. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up, you know,” Baixi thought for a moment and found a suitable word in his mind, “getting married.”

Upon hearing these words, Liang Song couldn’t hold back anymore, and he rolled his eyes dramatically.

Marriage? It would be good enough if they didn’t break up in a few days.

He glared at Baixi and said, “How do you expect me to react? You’re all grown up, yet you still drink so much and end up in bed with someone.”

Liang Song was half a year older than Baixi and had treated himself as Baixi’s elder brother since childhood. He looked at Baixi as if he were his own precious cabbage that had been taken away by someone else. “You shouldn’t have done this to yourself. If it weren’t for Qi Xun, you wouldn’t have drunk so much.”

Bai Xi couldn’t argue with that.

That was a valid point.

But Liang Song was still feeling upset and gave him another harsh look.

Coincidentally, a waiter arrived at their table with their dishes, and Baixi obediently picked up a chicken wing and handed it to him. “Alright, stop scolding me. Let’s eat first.”

Liang Song grumpily took a bite of the chicken wing.

After listening to the whole story, he did believe that Qi Xun and Baixi were truly together. While Qi Xun always had an icy demeanor, he was responsible and followed through with his actions.

Logically, as a close friend, he should be celebrating the fact that his childhood friend had successfully won over his crush. However, the way these two got together seemed so messy.

He poured himself a glass of sparkling water and downed half of it in one gulp to cool off his temper.

Baixi found it slightly amusing to see Liang Song’s irritated expression and lightly kicked him under the table. “Didn’t you encourage me to pursue Qi Xun? Now that I’ve actually won him over, why do you seem unhappy?”

Liang Song rolled his eyes again. “Did I encourage you to pursue him like this? If Qi Xun were with you because he liked you, I’d personally carry you to his bed. But right now, he’s only…”

He didn’t want to hurt Baixi, so he didn’t finish his sentence and just scratched his head in annoyance.

Baixi was understanding and didn’t argue with Liang Song’s point. He knew Liang Song had a point.

However, no matter how much sense Liang Song made, what was the use? Despite all the reasons and arguments, Baixi’s feelings for Qi Xun were so strong.

He loved Qi Xun without expecting anything in return.

“You’re absolutely right,” Baixi admitted. “But I’ve been a coward for six years, and this time, I don’t want to be one anymore. Qi Xun and I have only been together for six days, but these six days have made me happier than the past six years. So, I don’t want to think about the future; I just want to focus on the present.”

As Baixi spoke, his already handsome face became even more vivid, and his eyes sparkled like bright moons.

Liang Song was momentarily stunned. He knew Baixi so well that he could tell that Baixi’s emotions were genuine.

Qi Xun truly made him happy.

Liang Song fell silent for a while and didn’t say anything more.

Ruining someone’s relationship? That would be a courting disaster.

He patted Baixi on the shoulder. “Alright, as long as you’re happy, that’s what matters. No matter what you do, I’ll always support you.” He smiled at Baixi, revealing a small fang on his left side. “I wish you all the best in getting Qi Xun.”

Baixi smiled in return. “Thanks for your kind words.”

The two of them temporarily put aside the topic of Qi Xun and chatted about various other things as they ate. They continued until almost 10 PM when they finally left the barbecue restaurant and strolled toward the parking lot.

Halfway there, Baixi’s phone vibrated. He took it out and saw a message from Qi Xun.

There wasn’t much in the message, just a question about whether he had arrived home yet, along with two screenshots of tickets to the musical Baixi had mentioned wanting to see. The show was scheduled for the day after tomorrow, on Halloween.

Baixi lowered his head and sent Qi Xun a voice message, saying that he hadn’t arrived home yet and that he was still on his way.

Liang Song, standing beside him, couldn’t help but ask, “Are you two planning to go on a date?”

“Yeah, on Halloween,” Baixi replied absentmindedly, his eyes glued to the screen. “Qi Xun even took a day off for it.”

Liang Song raised an eyebrow, feeling somewhat incredulous. One of the reasons he previously disliked Qi Xun was because he always wore a poker face, as if speaking a few more words would cost him his life. He seemed cold-hearted and unlikely to be affectionate in a relationship. He secretly thought that if Baixi were to date someone, it should be someone who is more emotionally expressive and caring.

However, now that he was listening to Baixi’s conversation with Qi Xun and hearing that Qi Xun, the workaholic, was actually willing to take time off for Baixi, he felt a bit puzzled.

Why did it seem like Qi Xun cared a lot about Baixi?

When they reached the parking lot, Liang Song and Baixi found their respective cars.

Baixi waved to him. “I’m heading back.”

Liang Song nodded. “Stay safe.”

After a moment of thought, he added, “I’ll be busy with my art exhibition for a while, so I might not have much free time. When things settle down, I’ll invite you and Qi Xun for a meal.”

Baixi paused for a moment, then smiled. “Sure.”

Liang Song felt a bit awkward after saying that, as if he had surrendered to the enemy. He quickly opened his car door and drove away in a hurry.
