“Then, let’s make do with here.”

Without waiting for a reply, Kiriyama leaned in close to Kagura’s ear. His pinky withdrew, and his thin, moist tongue quickly pushed deep inside.

“…!”

The act was less licking and more akin to penetration, twisting Kagura’s expression.

This wasn’t the first time Kiriyama had done this to him, but resisting the urge to punch him was all Kagura could manage.

A surge of intense discomfort coursed through him as he clamped his left hand over his right, suppressing the fist that was ready to swing. Wet sounds, like squelching and smacking, filled his head directly from the depths of his ear. It felt as if a chameleon’s long tongue was exploring every corner of his mind.

Kiriyama seemed to be getting excited, a faintly sweet scent filling the air.

…It felt as though his very body was being dissolved in digestive fluids, an unbearable sensation growing inside him.

With Kiriyama’s tongue shoved into his ear, nibbling at its edges, Kagura’s body involuntarily shuddered.

Satisfied with having elicited that reaction, Kiriyama finally withdrew his tongue from Kagura’s ear.

“Let’s watch the match the week after next. I’ll contact you again.”

Kagura shoved Kiriyama’s shoulder roughly with his hand and left the conference room without a word, striding quickly toward the elevator hall.

―――Calm down. That was nothing at all.

It was only his tongue in his ear. No marks were left, and it wasn’t as though their mucous membranes touched.

…And yet, a wave of intense humiliation kept rising up within him.

Kagura felt like there was liquid flowing inside his left ear, so he tilted his head and pressed his palm against it.

His hand came away wet with Kiriyama’s saliva.

After washing his left ear in a restroom at the subway station, he returned to the Metropolitan Police Department, where Sanae rushed over with a worried look.

“What was the summons from Prosecutor Kiriyama about?”

“It wasn’t anything serious.”

“…Uh, you’re bleeding from your ear.”

Kagura reached up to touch his left ear, and his fingers came away sticky.

Apparently, he’d been scratching at it unconsciously on the train ride back.

“The last time you went to see Prosecutor Kiriyama, you were bleeding too. That time it was your neck. What on earth is going on?”

Kagura snapped back, “Quit nagging,” and wiped the blood from his ear with a tissue. No amount of scratching could erase the lingering sensation of Kiriyama’s tongue deep in his ear canal.

When he returned to his desk, he found a weekly magazine on top of it with a sticky note attached. Kagura opened the page indicated and instinctively leaned forward, scanning the article.

It was about the recent ongoing internal conflict within the Eastern Alliance.

The organisation was split into factions: one led by Toono and one opposed to him, fighting for dominance.

The Eastern Alliance had initially been established by Toono Ryouji, who unified eleven quasi-criminal groups across the Kanto region. Its ranks grew as members recruited juniors from their local areas. By now, the organisation had swelled so much that it was unclear where the Eastern Alliance officially began or ended. Some of the lowest-level members were just high school or college students.

However, even these ‘mere students’ were bringing in funds for the Eastern Alliance by drawing friends and acquaintances into schemes like fraud and even participating in prostitution networks.

But now, even these low-level members were being dragged into bloody power struggles, becoming both perpetrators and victims. Last week alone, seventeen young people believed to be affiliated with the Eastern Alliance were attacked and sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe. Two of them were in critical condition and unresponsive. This only accounted for incidents the police had been able to confirm.

The attacks were happening in public spaces without regard for bystanders, so images and videos from witnesses were circulating on social media. However, since the attackers wore masks and the victims were uncooperative with the investigation, the police were struggling to make any progress.

At the end of the article, the writer speculated that the internal conflict was primarily due to the waning influence of Toono Ryouji, who had fled overseas, leaving some to feel abandoned.

Just as Kagura finished reading, a long-fingered hand slapped down onto the magazine with a thud.

“Pretty intense article, don’t you think?”

It was Aizawa, a mid-level officer in the Organized Crime Division, grinning smugly.

Kagura leaned back against the backrest of his chair, crossing his hands over his stomach, and looked up at Aizawa from a semi-reclined position.

“Did you commission this article, Aizawa-san?”

Aizawa kept a stable of journalists on his payroll. He both sourced information from them and had them write articles like this.

Lowering his voice a little, Aizawa continued,

“You mentioned the possibility of Toono temporarily returning to the country, didn’t you?”

“Yes.”

“The Eastern Alliance has apparently already caught wind of the heightened security measures put in place at the airport. But if Toono is able to slip back in anytime he wants and avoid capture, what do you think will happen?”

“It would suggest Toono hasn’t abandoned the Eastern Alliance… In fact, it would actually strengthen his influence.”

“Exactly. It would show that he can defy the government and get away with it.”

With a sigh, Kagura straightened up and peered closely at the article again.

That was a development he had to prevent at all costs if he wanted to take down both Toono and the Eastern Alliance.

Aizawa leaned in close, his clean-cut face next to Kagura’s ear, muttering quietly.

“We’re trying to create a trend where sharing information on the Eastern Alliance blows up on social media.”

The recent flood of posts online involving the Eastern Alliance was a result of their scheme taking effect. Kagura glanced sideways at Aizawa. He maintained a casual, easygoing demeanour, rarely drawing attention, but perhaps it was precisely this type who pulled the strings behind the scenes.

Kagura pointed at the large photo of Toono’s face prominently displayed in the article.

“So there’s a reason you made them publish his face so boldly?”

“What do you think?”

Thinking about how they’d stirred things up on social media, Kagura ventured an answer.

“You want the public to spot Toono Ryouji.”

Aizawa gave Kagura a pat on the back, signalling he was right.

“There’s no better human wave tactic than mobilising the entire population.”

Kagura felt a slight chill at Aizawa’s ability to seize the current trend and deploy it so effectively.

“With skills like yours, you’d succeed no matter what you do, Aizawa-san.”

He spoke with a wry smile, and Aizawa shrugged playfully.

“True enough. If I ever get fired, maybe I’ll become an ace producer.”

  1. naturally like your web-site however you need to take a look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I in finding it very bothersome to inform the truth then again I¦ll surely come back again.
