Chapter 60: Searching for People in the Thirteen States
Abnormal Zerg energy fluctuations were detected near the Thirteen States. The school dispatched Qin Luzhi to lead a team to investigate. Taking it seriously, Qin Luzhi brought along his three trusted companions and two other squads.
Three days passed with no news. Gu Yixi applied to go search for them, and the school approved. Qin Zui also went along.
Clearly, this was no simple matter. What surprised Shen Bumian was that Gu Yixi had told him about it and even hoped he would come along. He had thought this would be considered a military secret.
Shen Bumian agreed. He had been wanting to visit the Thirteen States again, and this was an opportunity.
Arriving in the Thirteen States once more, Shen Bumian discreetly observed his surroundings. The place was desolate; apart from a station, there was nowhere else to rest.
Shen Bumian hadn’t seen this station last time. He now realized it was just a stone cave that had been roughly cleaned up. A door had been installed at the entrance, and some wooden benches were placed inside.
It was very simple, truly a place just for a brief rest.
They searched the immediate vicinity but couldn’t find Qin Luzhi’s team. Everyone guessed they had likely run into trouble. Shen Bumian wasn’t the only omega on this trip; there was another from his year, both with healing-type abilities.
In this era, healers were incredibly precious. Being omegas on top of that, they were treated with even greater privilege.
Accompanying Shen Bumian was an omega from a major noble family named Su Qingyu, a delicate young master.
“Young Master Shen, the weather here isn’t good. You can wear my coat.”
A shy voice pulled Shen Bumian back from his thoughts. He glanced indifferently at the unfamiliar Alpha before him. Although the night was indeed cold here, Shen Bumian still refused his kind offer.
“Mianmian, wear mine.” Gu Yixi had already swiftly taken off his own jacket and draped it over Shen Bumian’s shoulders.
After ruffling Shen Bumian’s hair, he returned to Qin Zui’s side. The Alpha, seeing this, walked away dejectedly.
Qin Zui handed his own jacket to Gu Yixi and nodded at Shen Bumian. This time, Shen Bumian didn’t refuse and obediently put on Gu Yixi’s jacket.
As night fell, Shen Bumian still felt his hands and feet growing cold even with two jackets on, a consequence of his constitution.
Click—
Hearing a sound, Shen Bumian turned his head. It was Su Qingyu. He slowly walked over to his side, wearing the jacket that the Alpha had just offered to Shen Bumian.
In fact, many Alphas had just offered their jackets to the omegas present. Only that one Alpha had been bold enough to try and give his to Shen Bumian.
After seeing Shen Bumian refuse, the others had tactfully decided not to bother him, belatedly remembering he was Qin Luzhi’s fiancé, someone they probably couldn’t afford to provoke. Shen Bumian glanced over once before looking away. He didn’t particularly want to talk to this person; perhaps their vibes just didn’t match.
“Shen Bumian, I know you.” Su Qingyu blocked Shen Bumian’s path of retreat, his burning gaze seeming to glow in the darkness.
Shen Bumian didn’t know why he would suddenly say such a thing; after all, many people knew him. He stood his ground, waiting to see what the other meant.
“It’s like this. I’ve also heard about the marriage alliance between the Shen and Qin families. Neither you nor Qin Luzhi were willing, right? I can help you.”
Shen Bumian felt a bit exasperated, still not understanding what Su Qingyu was trying to express. Then he heard the omega beside him continue, “I can help you break the engagement.”
Oh, so this is an admirer of Qin Luzhi’s? I haven’t heard of Qin Luzhi having any dealings with the Su family. So, it’s still Qin Luzhi being a flirt.
“Oh, no need.”
Su Qingyu had probably been very confident. Hearing Shen Bumian’s refusal, he was momentarily taken aback. “What do you mean? Do you like Qin Luzhi?”
Shen Bumian didn’t answer this question. In fact, he didn’t have to answer any of Su Qingyu’s questions. He could completely ignore anyone from the Su family.
“Young Master Su, you don’t need to trouble yourself with my affairs, and I won’t interfere in yours, as long as you don’t cause any trouble for me.”
Shen Bumian turned and left the high ground without looking back. As expected, this kind of thing is so troublesome, he thought, feeling irritated.
Qin Zui leaned against the wall and looked at Gu Yixi. “Aren’t you going to do something? He’s a stumbling block on your son’s path to love.”
Gu Yixi glanced indifferently in Su Qingyu’s direction, unconcerned. “No. What kind of competition is he? He’s not on the same level as Mianmian. If our son is really captivated by him, then we’ve raised him wrong.”
Qin Zui thought so too. It was just the Su family; they couldn’t stir up any major storms. It was better to let the kids like Qin Luzhi handle these minor squabbles themselves. Adults were very busy.
Their group had arrived at the Thirteen States very late. The night always brought an illusory sense of panic, so they didn’t plan on moving out to search for people in the dark.
They found a relatively clean spot in the station and slept on the floor. Shen Bumian was already a bit sleepy and didn’t mind the conditions now.
With Qin Zui and the others taking turns on watch, he felt very safe. Shen Bumian quickly fell asleep.
Drip—drip—
Water was still dripping from the eaves. The air after the rain was damp, with a faint scent of fresh grass, which Shen Bumian didn’t find unpleasant.
The scene in his dream was of a younger Shen Bumian, sitting on a swing and dangling his two short legs. Behind him, a long-haired female Alpha was gently pushing the swing.
Shen Yi sat not far away, quietly reading a book. A young Mu Jin had a pale yellow ribbon tied in her hair. In front of her was an easel, and on the canvas, she was sketching the current scene.
Shen Rufeng sat beside her, watching. He would occasionally say a few words, and not getting a response didn’t bother him; he would just answer his own questions.
It was a time of peaceful bliss.
“Mianzai, don’t grow up. What if you get stolen away by some stinky Alpha?”
Shen Ran’s sudden sigh made the couple opposite her laugh out loud. They gently said that people always have to grow up. Shen Yi, who was reading, nodded in strong agreement.
“In the future, if anyone bullies Mianzai, just tell your big sister and big brother. We’ll beat them up for you.”
Mu Jin shot Shen Ran a reproachful glare. “You’re an Alpha, don’t always be a bad influence on Mianzai. Don’t talk about fighting all the time. What if Mianmian can’t get married?”
!!!!
That one sentence set off alarm bells for Shen Ran and Shen Yi. What was this about getting married? “In the future, we’ll buy several Alphas for Mianzai to marry into our family. Mianzai can’t marry out and suffer.”
Shen Bumian listened to them talk. As a little child, he didn’t understand what they were saying, but he knew they were all on his side.
At that time, he thought, wouldn’t it be wonderful if it could always be like this, with the family together and well.
Bang—
Shen Bumian woke with a start. He rubbed his eyes and looked up, just in time to see something hit the stone wall near the entrance, leaving a scorched mark and a shallow crack.
White gas billowed out, and some small stones rolled down the wall.
For a moment, Shen Bumian didn’t know what had happened. Why were they suddenly under attack? Was this place really dangerous? Shen Bumian scanned the area but didn’t see Qin Zui or Gu Yixi.
Outside the cave, the sky had already turned white. It looked like it had been light for a while. They had probably already taken people to go find Qin Luzhi’s team.
