Chapter 59: I Won
Shen Bumian was busy for several days. During this time, he continued to eat and train with Qin Luzhi, occasionally spending time in the laboratory.
He had almost forgotten about the basketball game he had promised Qin Luzhi he’d attend. It was only when Zhou Yizhou mentioned wanting to relax by watching a basketball game that he remembered.
Looking at the date, it seemed it was indeed almost time.
The venue for this game had limited seating, and a ticket was required for entry. Qin Luzhi had given him two VIP tickets, which were in the front row with the best view.
Shen Bumian didn’t know the significance of these seats; he would have taken whatever was assigned. It was Zhou Yizhou who was thrilled with the tickets, excited to see handsome guys up close.
Shen Bumian teased him, asking why he was still looking at other Alphas when he had Chen Hebin. Zhou Yizhou righteously declared that he was just alleviating visual fatigue; people were aesthetic animals, and this was what he called appropriate adjustment.
Shen Bumian found it amusing. Qin Luzhi’s face suddenly flashed in his mind. Qin Luzhi… he really is very handsome.
When the day finally arrived, Shen Bumian realized he had underestimated their enthusiasm for the basketball game.
He could already hear the roar of cheers from the entrance, and his ears were having a hard time. It was only when he got inside that he realized many people were there for Qin Luzhi.
He and Zhou Yizhou had a hard time squeezing in, only to be separated by another rush of people. He lost his footing and stumbled, bumping into the person behind him.
Before he could even speak, he felt an arm wrap around him, guiding him towards the front row. He didn’t know when Qin Luzhi had come down from the court, but he had found him.
The entire stadium was packed with people. When Shen Bumian looked back, there was Qin Luzhi.
Qin Luzhi took him to the rest area on the court, where only the basketball players were. Normally, audience members were not allowed.
They all recognized Shen Bumian and said nothing, even making a space for him and clearing the surrounding area. It seemed Qin Luzhi had given them a heads-up.
Shen Bumian, completely bewildered, was pulled down to sit. A black jacket was draped over his shoulders, blocking out the scents of the other Alphas.
He looked blankly at Qin Luzhi, who was half-kneeling in front of him. “Shouldn’t I go back to my seat?”
Qin Luzhi placed a small bag of snacks and a cup of milk tea by Shen Bumian’s hand. “It’s a bit chaotic here today. You stay here. No one will bother you, and you won’t have to squeeze with others. I don’t know if I bought enough snacks. If you want anything, just tell me, or you can tell the other team members.”
Qin Luzhi’s attitude was unyielding, though his tone held a hint of negotiation. Shen Bumian looked at everything he had already arranged and nodded dumbly. He didn’t even react when Qin Luzhi ruffled his hair.
Instead, the crowd on and off the court started cheering again, clearly having noticed Qin Luzhi’s action, and getting a little excited.
Qin Luzhi put on a headband, making his entire face look wild and untamed. He looked at the well-behaved Shen Bumian and chuckled softly. So cute.
His teammates were calling for him from the other side. He jogged over and discussed strategy with them.
In that corner, only Shen Bumian remained, sipping his milk tea. Occasionally, Qin Luzhi’s gaze would drift over, and their eyes would meet for a moment before quickly separating.
Shen Bumian didn’t cheer for either side. His position was simply too special; showing favoritism to either team would be a bit awkward, so it was better for him to be a quiet spectator.
The Qin Luzhi on the court seemed different from his usual self. He saw Qin Luzhi sweating a little, the headband pushing back the bangs from his forehead, making him look even more aggressive.
As expected of a top-tier Alpha, Qin Luzhi played in every match. Even now, he wasn’t as out of breath as the others, still handling it with ease. He could even spare the attention to glance in this direction, as if… he were worried he might be bored.
Shen Bumian didn’t realize that his gaze had been following Qin Luzhi’s every move. The whistle blew, announcing the victory for Qin Luzhi’s team.
He saw Qin Luzhi fist-bump the others and then run towards him. The first thought in his mind was, Qin Luzhi actually coordinates with others?
“Shen Bumian, I won.”
Qin Luzhi was a little out of breath from running. A thin layer of sweat covered his neck, yet Shen Bumian could smell a faint, pleasant scent of mint.
Shen Bumian looked up at the Alpha who was taller than him and praised softly, “Yes, you’re really amazing.”
The audience outside also cheered loudly, celebrating someone else’s victory as if they were even happier than if they had won themselves.
Qin Luzhi did not attend the victory party. He just said it was his treat, and then he himself went to train with Shen Bumian.
“Qin Luzhi, why didn’t you go?”
Shen Bumian looked up at the night sky, still dotted with countless stars, wondering which planet was twinkling.
Qin Luzhi’s voice came to his ear, very real. “I wanted to be with you.”
Shen Bumian felt a bit dazed. That was something Qin Luzhi would say. In the beginning, they had both just thought of it as a year-long arrangement, and it would pass with them ignoring each other.
He never expected that after a few incidents, the two of them would actually grow closer and closer.
…
The next day, Shen Bumian spent the entire day in the laboratory. When he came out, he found that it was raining, and he hadn’t brought an umbrella.
He was about to message Zhou Yizhou, but then he saw a message from Qin Luzhi from an hour ago, asking where he was. He hadn’t replied in time.
After thinking for a moment, he still replied that he was in the lab. The other side replied almost instantly, as if they had been waiting for his response.
【qln: Wait for me, I’m on my way.】
Shen Bumian stared at the message for a few seconds, his fingertips twitching slightly, but he still switched to his chat with Zhou Yizhou.
Shen Bumian didn’t have to wait for more than a few minutes before he saw a figure running through the rain. In the blink of an eye, Qin Luzhi was already standing on the steps in front of him.
It was a very familiar scene. It seemed that every time Qin Luzhi came to pick him up, he had this same posture.
“How did you get here so fast?”
Qin Luzhi took a moment to even his breathing, his chin slightly raised. “I was just at the training room. It’s not far from here.”
Shen Bumian looked over. It really wasn’t far, but there was still some distance. He then looked down at Qin Luzhi’s pant cuffs, which were already stained with mud and soaked.
“Did you run here?”
Qin Luzhi looked at Shen Bumian without showing much emotion. “Yes.”
“Why?” Why run? He wasn’t in a hurry.
“I didn’t want you to wait too long.”
“Qin Luzhi.”
Qin Luzhi took a step closer, enveloping Shen Bumian completely under the black umbrella. He gave a soft “mm,” waiting for what Shen Bumian would say next.
But it seemed Shen Bumian had simply called his name. After calling out, he said nothing more, just glanced at Qin Luzhi and then said, “let’s go.”
Qin Luzhi couldn’t read Shen Bumian’s expression either. The umbrella once again tilted towards the omega, and this time, Shen Bumian accepted it without a word.
When they reached the dormitory building, Shen Bumian said a very quiet “thank you.” Qin Luzhi didn’t know if he had heard it.
On his way back, Qin Luzhi heard someone discussing Shen Bumian. He thought of that dazzling omega, and his heart grew frustrated. He really wanted to tell him that he liked him.
He wanted everyone to know that Shen Bumian was his, so that no one else could ever covet that beautiful young man.
But he couldn’t. He had to learn to be patient, to wait for Shen Bumian to fall in love with him step by step.
