In a month’s time, it could feel both fast and slow.
Lu Xingmian and Meng Xun were in frequent contact, mostly talking about the game. However, Lu Shiran noticed that Meng Xun would say “good night” at the end of every conversation, every single day. Lu Xingmian, being easygoing, didn’t think there was anything wrong with it.
The month passed quickly, and the beta testing period ended. Meng Xun gave the beta account directly to Lu Xingmian, making the account his own.
He was so happy playing the game, but writing the game feedback was a struggle. Meng Xun told him there was no rush, but Lu Xingmian wasn’t someone who procrastinated.
It was the weekend, and after waking up, Lu Xingmian sat on the sofa with his laptop, prepared to start typing.
Lu Shiran brought breakfast over and took his laptop away. “Eat your breakfast first.” He realized that Lu Xingmian’s problem of skipping breakfast was still a habit.
Lu Xingmian reached for his laptop. “I’m not hungry.”
“Eat something anyway.” Lu Shiran looked down, a bit helpless. “And you’re not wearing socks again.”
Lu Xingmian said, “I’ll put them on in a bit.”
The milk and steamed buns were placed in front of him. Lu Xingmian took a bite of the bun, and a burst of fresh crab roe and crab meat filled his mouth. Even the soup was incredibly delicious.
“It’s so good!” Lu Xingmian exclaimed.
To help Lu Xingmian get into the habit of eating breakfast, Lu Shiran made a different dish every morning. The crab roe buns were freshly made by an auntie from Uncle Hou’s home and delivered here. The filling was very generous and had no fishy smell, tasting incredibly fresh and savory.
Lu Xingmian loved crab, so naturally, he loved crab roe buns. The person who had just said they weren’t hungry ended up eating four of them in a row.
“Ge, I want to eat this again tomorrow morning.”
Lu Shiran said, “Uncle Hou also sent over shrimp dumplings.”
Lu Xingmian’s eyes lit up. “Then I’ll eat dumplings tomorrow and crab roe buns the day after!”
Lu Shiran smiled. “Okay. I’ll make you whatever you want.”
While Lu Xingmian was eating, Lu Shiran found a pair of socks and helped him put them on.
After breakfast, Lu Xingmian started writing the game feedback. He had taken notes on different things during the game, and with the document Lu Shiran had sent him, all he needed to do was organize and add a few things.
After a morning and midday of work, Lu Xingmian finally finished a report he was very happy with. He checked it from beginning to end and found no issues.
He lay down on the balcony, where the flowers were in bloom. The sun felt so warm and comfortable on him. Lu Xingmian put his laptop aside and took a nice nap. When he woke up, he found a small blanket covering him. It must have been Lu Shiran who put it on him while he was asleep.
The weather was getting warmer, and Lu Xingmian felt a bit hot after his nap. He got up and stretched contentedly. He had slept for a while and was thirsty. As Lu Xingmian stood up to get a glass of water, his right leg suddenly felt numb. He stumbled and fell forward toward the table next to him.
A loud crash rang out along with a startled cry of “Ah!”, as Lu Xingmian and his laptop fell to the floor together.
Lu Xingmian fell hard onto one knee. The fall left him stunned. Enduring the sharp pain, his first thought was to check on his laptop. It had landed to the side with a chipped corner. Lu Xingmian’s heart sank. He tapped the keyboard, but the screen remained black, completely unresponsive. He tapped it again, but it was still a black screen with no reaction at all.
Lu Xingmian: !!!!
Hearing the commotion, Lu Shiran immediately rushed to the balcony and saw Lu Xingmian sitting on the floor while holding his laptop with a look of utter despair.
Seeing Lu Shiran, Lu Xingmian said, “Ge, I think the laptop is broken. It won’t turn on.”
He couldn’t remember if he had saved the document before his nap. He must have, right? But what if he hadn’t? All his hard work from the morning would be for nothing. It was a whole morning’s worth of effort! The more Lu Xingmian thought about it, the more anxious he became, and he kept trying to mess with the laptop.
When he saw Lu Shiran, Lu Xingmian felt a wave of sadness. “Ge, the laptop is broken. I’m the one who broke it.”
Lu Shiran lifted him up. “Did you fall? Does it hurt?”
Lu Xingmian’s mind was completely on the laptop. “The fall didn’t hurt me, but the laptop is broken. Ge, please help me check the laptop. My report is all on there.”
Lu Shiran’s main concern was Lu Xingmian. “I’ll check where you fell on first, then I’ll look at the laptop. Don’t worry. Even if it’s broken, I can help you fix it. Don’t be anxious.”
Lu Shiran’s calm and steady voice soothed Lu Xingmian. He sat on the sofa obediently as he let Lu Shiran roll up his pants. When the pants were rolled up, a red patch was revealed on his right knee. Lu Shiran frowned. He had fallen so hard, yet he was only worried about his laptop and his report. He pressed on Lu Xingmian’s knee, and Lu Xingmian cried out in pain and begged for mercy. “Ge, it hurts.”
A nameless fire flared in Lu Shiran’s eyes. “It hurts this badly, and you’re still only worried about the laptop.”
Lu Xingmian said, “My report is on the laptop.”
“Which is more important, the report or your body?”
Without a second thought, Lu Xingmian answered, “The report is more important.”
The words had just left his mouth when a sharp pain shot through his knee. Lu Xingmian cried out. Lu Shiran pressed on his knee again. What was wrong with Lu Shiran? He quickly covered his knee with his hands.
Lu Shiran asked him again, “Is the report more important, or is your body more important?”
Having learned his lesson, Lu Xingmian promptly corrected himself and said, “My body is more important.”
He saw that the fierce look in Lu Shiran’s eyes had softened.
Lu Shiran didn’t care what was on the laptop. He first took care of the wound on Lu Xingmian’s knee. “Don’t worry about the laptop. If it’s broken, we’ll get it repaired. Your report shouldn’t be lost.”
After treating Lu Xingmian’s scraped knee, Lu Shiran picked up the laptop, grabbed the charger, plugged it in, and pressed the power button. A few seconds later, the laptop screen lit up.
Lu Xingmian’s eyes lit up as well.
He quickly leaned over Lu Shiran and looked at the laptop. The document was perfectly safe on the desktop. Lu Shiran clicked on it and showed him the contents. “See? Your report is all here. The laptop isn’t broken, it just ran out of battery.”
Lu Shiran had spent some time with Lu Xingmian around noon and had noticed the laptop’s battery was very low. He had reminded Lu Xingmian about it, but Lu Xingmian had simply glanced at the battery icon and said he was sure he could finish before it died.
Who knew he would nap and then fall and completely forgetting about it? He had really thought he had broken the laptop. He had been so scared, that was a full five-page report!
The laptop wasn’t broken, and the file wasn’t lost. Lu Xingmian breathed a deep sigh of relief, but his heart sank when he saw the large chip on his laptop—it had been less than six months since he bought it. Lu Shiran reassured him not to worry and immediately prepared to buy a new one, already reaching for his phone to contact his assistant.
Lu Xingmian quickly pressed his hand down, insisting there was no need. It was only a small chip, and the laptop was still functional, buying a new one would just be a waste of money.
Lu Shiran laughed. “Our Zai Zai is very good at managing money. I’ll give you my salary card from now on.”
Lu Xingmian: “……”
Just in case, Lu Xingmian sent a copy of the report to Meng Xun’s email and messaged him on WeChat.
The project was finally over. Lu Xingmian had put a lot of effort into the report, hoping it would be helpful to Meng Xun. Lu Xingmian often saw news about the game online. He also noticed that many people held high expectations for the game and were eagerly anticipating its public release.
A month later, the game was officially released, and its exquisite interface, thrilling main quests, and captivating side quests all received high praise. The game even trended on the day of its launch, with over ten million registered users, showing just how popular it was. Meng Xun and his company became known to many more people.
A financial magazine even interviewed the young CEO. When Lu Shiran went to the company that day, he heard the receptionists talking about Meng Xun. They had both bought the financial magazine with Meng Xun on the cover, discussing how he was young, successful, handsome, and most importantly, single.
Sitting in his office, Lu Shiran stared at his reflection on the screen before him, lost in thought. He couldn’t even tell what he was thinking about until his phone rang. It was Lu Xingmian, who said he was going out for dinner with Meng Xun and would be home later.
Lu Shiran was silent for a moment. “Zai Zai, come home early tonight. I’ll be waiting for you.”
–
A few days earlier, Meng Xun had invited Lu Xingmian to dinner. After being busy for so long, Meng Xun could finally take a breather, especially since the game’s public launch had garnered a lot of positive feedback from players.
He had reserved a private room at a high-end restaurant in advance. He didn’t just want to treat Lu Xingmian to dinner tonight. When Lu Xingmian was a little boy, Meng Xun had already wanted to take care of him, but at that time, he didn’t have the means to do so.
But now it was different. He could take care of Lu Xingmian properly. So today, he wanted to formally ask Lu Xingmian if he could take care of him from now on, but not in a brotherly way.
When Lu Xingmian saw Meng Xun, he was stunned. He was dressed way too formally. When they arrived at the restaurant, Lu Xingmian was even more surprised. He had said they would just grab a bite, but it was a high-end Western restaurant.
Lu Xingmian asked, “Meng Xun Ge, are we eating here?”
“En.” Meng Xun replied.
He scratched his head, feeling it was a bit too formal, and Lu Xingmian followed him into the private room. There was a bouquet of roses in a vase on the table, and when they sat down, a fresh rose scent filled the air. The atmosphere was very nice.
Meng Xun was a little nervous and kept watching Lu Xingmian, who seemed to really like the atmosphere and the dishes.
As they neared the end of their meal, Meng Xun took a sip of red wine, glanced at the boy across from him, and only after swallowing did he finally speak. “Lu Xingmian, there’s something I want to tell you.”
“Okay.” Lu Xingmian said.
Meng Xun looked at him. “Lu Xingmian, I know you’ve always seen me as your elder brother.”
Lu Xingmian nodded.
Seeing him nod, Meng Xun froze for a moment. “But from now on, I don’t want to be your elder brother. I don’t want you to see me as a elder brother anymore. I want you to look at me in a different way.”
“Lu Xingmian, I want to be your boyfriend. I want to take care of you forever.”
Lu Xingmian put down his cutlery. “Meng Xun Ge, I’m sorry, you’ve misunderstood. My feelings for you have always been like a brother’s.”
“I know,” Meng Xun said. “So, I want you to start seeing me as a man from now on.”
Lu Xingmian looked at him. “Meng Xun Ge, I’m sorry, but I already have a boyfriend.”
Jejejejeje demasiado tarde~
