Lu Shiran’s cold came on suddenly, and it also got better quickly. Besides taking his medicine on time, Lu Xingmian made him steamed pears with rock sugar every day and even tried to coax him to sleep, though it was always Lu Xingmian who fell asleep first. Lu Shiran felt like his young boyfriend had grown up.
The only drawback was that during his illness, his young boyfriend wouldn’t let him go any further than hugs and kisses, he could see and touch, but he couldn’t truly have him. Lu Shiran decided it was better for neither of them to get sick.
Three days later, on one morning, Lu Xingmian was still asleep when he felt someone kissing his forehead, his eyes, his ears, and his lips. At first, he thought he was dreaming, but he quickly realized a dream wouldn’t have such a real touch, temperature, or the sound of breathing. The person’s hand encircled him with a touch that was both tender and possessive.
“Zai Zai.” A familiar, pleasant male voice whispered in his ear.
Lu Xingmian, who was still groggy, mumbled, “Ge, you still have a cold. Don’t.”
Lu Shiran’s kisses had already moved to the young man’s neck, shoulders, and collarbone. “Zai Zai, I’m almost completely better.”
He gently bit Lu Xingmian’s pale collarbone and fiercely inhaling the scent of his skin, a faint but wonderful mix of body wash and natural scent. The breath on his skin was scorching hot.
Lu Shiran whispered, “Zai Zai, don’t you know that sweating when you’re sick helps you get better faster?”
Lu Xingmian hummed, his lips now sealed by a kiss.
They engaged in such an intense workout so early in the morning. When it was over, both were covered in sweat. Having restrained himself for days, Lu Shiran nearly left Lu Xingmian unable to bear it and accidentally left a few marks on his arm. However, Lu Shiran’s cold was genuinely gone, and he no longer had a nasal voice when he spoke.
At breakfast, Lu Xingmian looked at Lu Shiran. “Ge, I’m actually a little nostalgic for your voice when you had a cold. I thought it sounded pretty good.”
Lu Shiran smiled. “That’s easy. I’ll get sick again so you can hear it once more.”
Seeing Lu Xingmian’s face tighten and he was glaring at him, President Lu quickly laughed apologetically. “My mistake, my mistake. I shouldn’t say such things.” After all the care Lu Xingmian had given him, he couldn’t bear the thought of him having to work so hard again.
Previously, it would take Lu Shiran seven or eight days to recover from a cold. This time, perhaps because he took his medicine on time or because of Lu Xingmian’s careful attention, he recovered very quickly.
Lu Shiran was also happy that Lu Xingmian was getting along so well with his family. However, he hadn’t expected them to get along so well that Lu Yu would even confide in Lu Xingmian about his aversion to medicine. He worried that his image in Lu Xingmian’s eyes might be less than perfect now.
Lu Xingmian smiled. “This just makes you feel like a real person to me. It’s what makes you the person I love.”
Lu Shiran’s heart bloomed at these words.
“Actually, I don’t like taking medicine or getting shots either.” Lu Xingmian added.

Lu Xingmian had an idea a while ago when he watched Lu Shiran drive: he wanted to get his driver’s license. After Lu Shiran recovered from his cold, Lu Xingmian enrolled in a driving school thinking it would be an easy process.
However, the ideal was beautiful, but the reality was cruel.
Lu Xingmian waited nervously by the roadside, surrounded by many others waiting just like him. This was the examination site for Subject Two, the driving skills test. Lu Xingmian had never been nervous for an exam, but this notoriously difficult test had him on edge.
He noticed someone even more nervous than he was—a man who actually bowed to his car before taking the test. The people around him were amused. It made sense; this was the man’s sixth time taking Subject Two. Lu Xingmian was only a little better off; this was his fourth attempt.
He had passed Subjects One and Three on his first try, but Subject Two was his downfall. The repeated failures made Lu Xingmian wonder if he would ever get his license. His coach had taught him, and Lu Shiran had too, but the moment he faced the cameras during the exam, panic would set in and he’d end up failing.
After his third failed attempt, Lu Xingmian almost cried when he got home. Lu Shiran comforted him all night by telling him it was fine if he didn’t have a license and that he would be his driver for life and he will always be on call. But Lu Xingmian wasn’t one to give up. The more he failed, the more determined he was to try again. He refused to believe he could never pass, so he scheduled his fourth test.
Then, Lu Xingmian’s name was called. He suddenly grew tense again and his limbs almost tangling in his panic. He thought back to that morning when he and Lu Shiran had parted ways. Lu Shiran had kissed him on the forehead and wished him good luck with his Subject Two test.
In the meeting room, Lu Shiran listened to the senior executives’ reports while his thoughts drifting to Lu Xingmian’s exam as he unconsciously tapped his index finger against the table. He considered that if Lu Xingmian failed again this time, he would take him to the horse ranch tomorrow, let him ride Bai Zhou and run to his heart’s content to help him relax.
Lu Shiran’s phone then vibrated. After checking his message, his eyes instantly filled with a warm smile.
[Lu Xingmian: Ge!!!!!!! I passed Subject Two!!! I passed Subject Two!!!! I finally passed!!!]
The numerous exclamation marks made it obvious just how excited and thrilled Lu Xingmian was. It had been such a struggle; he had finally passed on his fourth try! It felt even harder than the college entrance exam. His signature was a bit shaky with excitement as he signed the paperwork. Lu Xingmian hadn’t expected to pass this time, and with only Subject Four remaining, which would be a piece of cake for him, getting his license was now just a matter of time.
Knowing the result, Lu Xingmian’s first thought was to share his happiness with Lu Shiran. He was happy, and Lu Shiran shared that happiness too and he was already pondering which car to buy for him.
Since it was still early after his Subject Two test, Lu Xingmian didn’t want to go home and decided to find Lu Shiran instead.
The last time he was at Lu Shiran’s office, Lu Xingmian found a particularly delicious drink in the vending machine. This time, he wanted to buy a few extra to take home. After his last visit, Lu Shiran, worried he’d be waiting around, had given Lu Xingmian a special access card. With the card, Lu Xingmian could now enter and leave the building freely and go straight to Lu Shiran’s office.
As he got out of the car, Lu Xingmian ran into Lu Yu, who had just arrived as well. Lu Yu was there to check on a celebrity endorsement shoot. Spotting Lu Xingmian, he asked if he wanted to come along and watch. Since Lu Shiran was in a meeting, he thought it would be a fun way to pass the time. Lu Xingmian had seen the celebrity, Yang Ming, in a TV drama just a couple of days ago and had liked the character he played, so he agreed and followed Lu Yu to the studio.
When Lu Yu arrived, the person in charge immediately came forward to update him on the progress. Lu Yu asked a few questions, and the manager answered each one. Lu Yu, who usually seemed so easygoing, was completely different at work. He exuded an intimidating presence without even having to get angry. Lu Xingmian began to understand why everyone seemed so intimidated by the two Lu brothers.
With Lu Yu busy with business, Lu Xingmian wandered around the set and looking at things curiously. The staff frowned at the unexpected arrival of a stranger, assuming he was a sneaky fan. They were about to escort him out, but noticing his access card, they assumed he was part of the crew and left him alone.
Many of the female employees on set were looking at Yang Ming with excitement. He was a huge star! They usually only saw him on TV or online. Yet today, they were so close. He was so handsome. They wondered if they could get a photo or an autograph later.
Lu Xingmian wasn’t particularly interested in celebrities, but he knew this one was currently very popular. Yang Ming was the face of the Lu clan’s watch brand, and after the photo shoot, it was time to film the commercial.
Yang Ming was getting a touch-up in the makeup room. Though the shoot was somewhat exhausting, working with the Lu clan was a rare opportunity and he wanted to make the most of it. The makeup room was full of his own team members. Yang Ming asked his agent, “Is there really no chance we’ll see Lu Shiran today?” Lu Shiran’s reputation preceded him; he was many people’s dream man.
His agent said that Lu Shiran was in a meeting upstairs and likely wouldn’t come down. Knowing what his artist was getting at, the agent added, “I heard President Lu already has a boyfriend. And I also heard that his boyfriend is pretty mysterious.”
Yang Ming sneered lightly. “Mysterious” meant the person’s background was probably nothing special, which also meant Lu Shiran might not be that serious about him. “Wang Ge, can you help me get a meeting with President Lu?” He asked his agent.
The agent thought for a moment. “I’ll try my best, but don’t get your hopes up.” Given Lu Shiran’s personality, he wasn’t even brave enough to get too close himself.
As they were talking, a figure walked briskly past the doorway. Yang Ming and his agent noticed that the door to the makeup room hadn’t been fully closed, there was a small gap. The two of them exchanged looks, but they had been speaking quietly and assumed the person outside couldn’t have heard them. The agent reassured Yang Ming by saying it was probably just a Lu Corporation employee, not a gossip reporter.
After leaving the restroom, Lu Xingmian received a message from Lu Shiran. He realized he had been there for some time without updating him, and Lu Shiran had assumed he hadn’t arrived yet. Lu Xingmian explained that he had run into Lu Yu downstairs and followed him to the studio, but now he was getting bored and was planning to head back to Lu Shiran’s office to wait.
Just as Lu Xingmian was about to leave, Yang Ming’s agent came out and stopped him.
Meanwhile, in the conference room, Lu Shiran’s assistant rushed in and whispered a few words into President Lu’s ear. Lu Shiran’s expression changed. He gave a brief instruction to everyone: “Continue the meeting.” Then, he left the conference room in a hurry.
