Act with Impunity – Chapter 47

Is the Soundproofing Good?

Tan Xingwei wrote this Weibo post very seriously.

Though it had only been a few short days, she wrote a lot. She wrote about how fun it was to be sneaky behind their sisters’ backs, told everyone that her sister was very supportive of them, and also said how happy she was with Sister A, that it was like a dream. Finally, she fully expressed how well Su Xu understood her and how moved she was.

Perhaps she had the idea that Su Xu would definitely see this post, which was why she wrote what she did.

“Why does the style feel like it suddenly changed? It reads like a confession letter.”

Not long after she posted it, a netizen left such a comment below.

Tan Xingwei didn’t think so when she was writing it, but now that someone had pointed it out, she felt it made a lot of sense. It did seem to be the case.

So someone else said: “Could it be that Sister A has infiltrated the masses!”

So smart!

After the sister among the masses finished her shower and learned that Little X had posted a new Weibo, she didn’t even bother to dry her hair. She sat in front of her vanity mirror, a towel wrapped around her head, propping up her chin as she read. During the process, she revealed a few smiles of ambiguous meaning. She seemed to like it very much.

Little X was very satisfied and extremely grateful for Sister-Teacher’s support.

The roommates had scheduled their “criticism meeting” for noon the next day. The two of them timed it perfectly, setting off almost as soon as they woke up.

But before the appointed time, Tan Yinqing was already wailing on WeChat.

Tan Yinqing: 「Where are you? Where are you?」

Tan Yinqing: 「We’re all here already, what’s wrong with you?」

Tan Yinqing: 「Ah Xu is never late, don’t be a bad influence on her.」

Tan Xingwei: 「Almost there, stop shouting.」

Tan Xingwei: 「We’re not late, okay, look at the time.」

Tan Xingwei: 「What do you mean I’m a bad influence on her? I’m never late either!」

Tan Yinqing: 「Where are you?」

Tan Xingwei: 「Almost there, two minutes.」

After sending these messages, Tan Xingwei turned to complain to Su Xu, “Big Sister Ah Xu, look at her.”

Su Xu glanced at it. “Do they have something planned?”

Tan Xingwei was curious. “Oh? What kind of plan?”

Su Xu: “Hard to say.”

As expected, Su Xu knew them best. When the two found the private room and pushed open the door, the three people inside were sitting in a row, leaning back in their chairs with their legs crossed, looking as smug as could be.

It was a little funny, but now was not the time to laugh.

Su Xu led Tan Xingwei in by the hand, closed the door unhurriedly, and took out the three bags she was holding, also unhurriedly. She distributed them from left to right, in no particular order.

“Your foundation.” The first bag went to Chen Jing.

“Your signed album.” The second bag went to Tan Yinqing.

“Your little penguin.” The third bag went to Yaoyao.

After handing them out, Su Xu took a step back to stand beside Tan Xingwei and asked earnestly, “What’s wrong? Why are you all sitting like this? Is something the matter?”

The three of them looked at each other, clearly bursting with things to say, but unable to speak.

In the end, Tan Yinqing, who was sitting in the middle, stood up first. With a clatter, she pulled her chair away.

“Please, you two.” Tan Yinqing pointed to the only path she had cleared.

Su Xu smiled at Tan Yinqing. “You’re too kind, sister.”

Since the sister had spoken, Yaoyao immediately latched on. “Thank you, Ah Xu, the little penguin is so cute.”

Chen Jing also said sweetly, “Thank you, Ah Xu.”

Since both of them had spoken, the pressure was on Tan Yinqing. Tan Yinqing also revealed a smile. “Thank you, Big Sister Ah Xu.”

Unable to hold it in any longer, Tan Xingwei burst out laughing.

With the little gifts to placate them, the meal was very harmonious. Although there were still some sarcastic remarks like, “You two have fun, don’t mind whether we live or die,” and “You two are amazing, managing to hide it from us for so long,” there were also heart-moving blessings like, “You two are a match made in heaven,” “You’re born to be a couple,” and “You two couldn’t be more perfect for each other.”

As the meal was about to end, Yaoyao suddenly said, “Ah Xu, I remember before you went abroad, you told us you liked the older sister type. Now you’ve come back and been captured by a younger sister.”

Su Xu heard this and was puzzled. “I said that? When did I say that?”

When she said this, the other three wouldn’t have it.

Chen Jing: “That one time the four of us went to the beach, don’t you remember?”

Yaoyao: “You were the one who said it. Who else among the three of us would say they like older sisters?”

Tan Yinqing: “That’s right. At the time, someone even told me that all lesbians like older sisters.”

With one person chiming in after another, Su Xu’s memory was jogged. She first said, “Oh,” then smiled. “I was about to go abroad then.”

The sentence ended there, with no follow-up.

A few seconds later, the three of them said in unison, “So?”

Su Xu took a sip of her drink, a little embarrassed. “No so. The chicken wings today are delicious.”

No one was fooled. Yaoyao asked, puzzled, “We can’t even ask about this?”

At this moment, Tan Yinqing let out an “ah” of understanding. She looked at Su Xu and chuckled. “I think I get it.”

Yaoyao asked Tan Yinqing, “What do you get?”

But Tan Yinqing turned to look at Tan Xingwei. “Is it what I think it is?”

Tan Xingwei said, “The eggplant today is also delicious.”

After saying that, Tan Xingwei and Su Xu laughed together.

The remaining three naturally couldn’t laugh. Forgetting about any gifts, they simultaneously crossed their arms and looked at Tan Xingwei and Su Xu.

Su Xu put down her glass and finally said, “I was getting close to Xingxing back then. I felt guilty.”

Chen Jing went “ah” first, followed by Yaoyao, and then Tan Yinqing chimed in with her own “ah.”

Chen Jing tutted. “I knew something was up with you two four years ago.”

Yaoyao was curious. “You noticed it four years ago too?”

Chen Jing said, “On Ah Xu’s Moments after she went abroad, Xingxing never appeared. Don’t you think that’s strange?”

Yaoyao’s eyes widened in surprise. “I didn’t even notice.” Her eyes darted around, and she suddenly said, “Oh! Ah Xu, the appointment you didn’t keep, it couldn’t have been with Xingxing, right?”

Tan Yinqing also had a sudden realization. “Wait, could it be the night before Ah Xu went abroad? That day you told me you had something else to do and wouldn’t go home with me, and in the end, Ah Xu kept asking me if you had gone back.”

Chen Jing and Yaoyao: “That happened too?”

Tan Yinqing asked, “Tan Xingwei, were you going to confess to Ah Xu?”

Tan Xingwei’s mouth twisted. “What about it?”

Tan Yinqing: “That’s hilarious. How could Ah Xu possibly have gotten together with you back then?”

Tan Xingwei turned her head. “Big Sister Ah Xu, take back her signed photo.”

Tan Yinqing said, “It’s a signed album.”

Just then, Yaoyao clinked glasses with Chen Jing, who said, “Everyone has a bright future.”

Chattering away, everyone got lost in a huge discussion about it. “I knew you were a bit too good to Xingxing before,” “I knew you two were a bit too intimate back then,” “I was shocked by how clingy Xingxing was to you, and you seemed to enjoy it…”

Seeing Su Xu’s love for Tan Xingwei from a third-person perspective was so interesting.

Tan Xingwei was thrilled to hear it. If you can talk, say more!

The restaurant today was chosen by the three sisters. It wasn’t close, but very far, just a street away from Tan Xingwei’s residential complex.

So after dinner, Su Xu was brought home by the two Tan sisters.

Their mother was watching TV in the living room. Seeing her two daughters return, she remained indifferent, but when she saw someone else following behind them, she immediately sat up straight.

“Ah Xu?” Her mother’s smile was instantly welcoming. “Long time no see. You’re back in the country.”

“I’m back,” Su Xu said very politely. “Hello, Auntie.”

“Good, good,” Auntie was very enthusiastic. “Come in, come in. I’ll get some fruit for you all.”

Tan Xingwei said, “I want watermelon.”

Her mother smiled. “We have it, we have it.”

Her mother was catching up on a very popular historical idol drama. The TV screen was slowly displaying beautiful scenery. A few minutes later, her mother came out with the fruit.

Having already chatted for a while during the meal, the atmosphere among the three was quiet. But it was different with their mother present. With a new person in the house, her mother’s attribute of caring for the younger generation exploded. She asked Su Xu about almost everything she could think of.

How was it in the United Kingdom? Why did you decide to come back? Where are your parents now? What’s your job now? What do you do specifically? Is the workload heavy? Are you used to being back? Is work going smoothly?

It was great. Tan Xingwei learned a lot about Su Xu along with her mother.

After all that, her mother continued, “You’re also in Bayi District, and our Xingxing is there too.” At this point, her mother patted Tan Xingwei’s leg. “Aren’t you two very close then? You’re both living alone outside, you should visit each other more often and look out for one another.”

Before Tan Xingwei could say anything, Tan Yinqing drawled, “They’ve been looking out for each other for a while now. No need for you to say it.”

Her mother nodded in satisfaction. “That’s good.”

Of course, her mother also asked, “Does Ah Xu have a boyfriend yet?”

Su Xu said, “No.”

Her mother said, “You’re not young anymore, you should find one.”

Tan Yinqing cast a look that said she was enjoying the show.

Mainly at Tan Xingwei.

After all, Tan Xingwei did indeed jump in. “What’s wrong with that? Our Big Sister Ah Xu is so outstanding, why must she find a boyfriend?” Tan Xingwei said loudly, “Who’s worthy?”

Tan Yinqing burst out laughing. “Yeah, who’s worthy?”

Her mother tutted at Tan Xingwei. “Don’t listen to her. There are plenty of outstanding men too. We don’t look down, we look up, right?”

Tan Xingwei rolled her eyes dramatically. “Can’t she just live by herself?”

“These two,” her mother said helplessly. “Always talking about not getting married. Who doesn’t get married? Nonsense.”

Su Xu gave Tan Yinqing a look. Tan Yinqing stood up. “Ah Xu, didn’t you want that thing? I’ll go find it for you.”

Su Xu nodded and said okay, smiled at their mother, and the three of them left the living room together.

Sigh, they hadn’t even finished the watermelon.

But just as the three of them stepped into Tan Yinqing’s room, their mother came knocking on the door.

She opened a small crack in the door and handed in a postcard. “I almost forgot this.”

Tan Yinqing got up to take the postcard and asked, “Who sent it?”

“Ah Xu sent it to Xingxing,” her mother asked curiously. “Did the delivery miss one? Why don’t I see one for Yinqing?”

The speaker was careless, but the listener was heartbroken. After their mother closed the door, Tan Yinqing held the single postcard and turned to look at Su Xu. “What’s going on? Was it missed in the mail, Big Sister Ah Xu?”

Big Sister Ah Xu looked up at the ceiling. “What a white light.”

Tan Xingwei laughed loudly. She asked Tan Yinqing, “Who are you?”

Tan Yinqing slammed the postcard on the desk, clenched her teeth, and pretended to breathe heavily.

Su Xu smiled. “I’ll make it up to you on my next business trip.”

Tan Xingwei turned her head. “Only for her?”

Su Xu: “Of course you’ll get one too.”

Tan Yinqing continued her despair, even wiping away a tear. “I’m sleepy. I don’t want to see you two. You can go.”

That was exactly what Tan Xingwei wanted. She immediately grabbed the postcard and led Su Xu back to her own room.

Tan Xingwei was also a little sleepy. It was the perfect time for an afternoon nap. She found pajamas for Su Xu, and the two of them drew the curtains, changed, turned off the lights, and got into bed.

“This seems to be your first time in my room, right?” Tan Xingwei asked after pulling up the covers.

Su Xu hummed in agreement. “It’s very tidy.”

There was no reason for this comment to be funny, but Tan Xingwei suddenly laughed. “Of course. I’m not afraid of any surprise inspections.”

Su Xu suddenly asked, “Does your mother often talk to you about marriage?”

“Not often, but her attitude is very firm,” she thought for a moment and added, “They’re mainly pressuring Tan Yinqing right now, it hasn’t gotten to me yet, don’t worry.”

Su Xu asked, “When it’s your turn, will you go on blind dates?”

Of course Tan Xingwei wouldn’t go. No one in this family could order her around.

But she also asked, “You don’t want me to go?”

Su Xu: “Of course.”

Tan Xingwei was happy. “Then I won’t go. I’ll listen to you.”

Su Xu kissed Tan Xingwei’s cheek and held her in her arms.

“But in the future, when topics like this come up at home, you don’t have to be in such a hurry to argue,” Su Xu added. “Every generation has its own views.”

Tan Xingwei thought for a moment and nodded. “I know, it’s impossible to reason with them, but sometimes I can’t help but say something.” But since Su Xu had said so, “I’ll be good. I won’t say anything anymore. I’ll remain silent.”

Su Xu stroked Tan Xingwei’s head. “Good girl.”

The sound of Tan Xingwei’s silly laugh had just emerged when she opened her mouth wide and yawned.

Su Xu laughed. “This sleepy?”

Tan Xingwei squinted. “I get a little sleepy after eating.”

Su Xu chuckled. “Go to sleep then.”

Tan Xingwei hummed in agreement.

But just as Tan Xingwei’s eyes closed, Su Xu asked, “Is the soundproofing good?”

Tan Xingwei’s eyes opened again.

“Maybe, not, hard to say,” Tan Xingwei recalled. “When I sing in my room, Tan Yinqing’s room can hear it.”

Su Xu hummed lowly, a light touch, and then she moved away.

Tan Xingwei’s heart tickled.

No.

Tan Xingwei grabbed Su Xu’s wrist and put it back.

A laugh from Su Xu came through the air. “What is it, little sister?”

Tan Xingwei: “You…”

Su Xu: “Hm?”

Tan Xingwei pulled it a little closer, her body also moving nearer. “Sister.”

Su Xu’s hand was back on her. She also said, “The door isn’t locked.”

Tan Xingwei didn’t care anymore, just nuzzling and rubbing in Su Xu’s arms.

She also closed her eyes.

Su Xu used a little bit of force.

“Mm…”

“Shh…”

Su Xu placed her index finger to her lips and stopped moving.

Tan Xingwei covered her face with her hands and started to laugh.

“Ah!” Tan Xingwei stopped laughing and let out a frustrated sound.

But now it was Su Xu’s turn to laugh, looking very triumphant.

She even asked, “Shall we continue?”

Tan Xingwei stared into Su Xu’s eyes. “You did that on purpose.”

Su Xu’s eyes curved. “You found me out.”

Tan Xingwei: “You’re so bad.”

Su Xu: “Uh-huh.”

Tan Xingwei took a deep breath.

Su Xu smiled and made a gesture of taking her hand away, gradually, slowly.

How well she knew Tan Xingwei. The hand was grabbed by Tan Xingwei again.

And pulled back again.

Su Xu’s expression could no longer be described with just the word “bad.” She looked at Tan Xingwei, her eyes full of mirth. “Hm?”

Tan Xingwei’s voice was low. “I want it.”

She couldn’t have it. The words had just fallen when a knock suddenly came from the door. Tan Xingwei shot up and out of Su Xu’s arms.

After a few knocks, her mother opened the door and came in.

“Are you asleep?” her mother’s voice was soft, her footsteps light. “I’m borrowing a pair of scissors.”

Tan Xingwei’s voice was flat. “On the desk, in the pen holder.”

Her mother took two steps closer and spoke again. “Oh my, why is Ah Xu here with you? You scared me.”

Tan Xingwei closed her eyes. “She’s asleep.”

Her mother said no more, took the scissors, and left. The room became quiet again.

Su Xu stopped pretending to be asleep, laughing so hard the pillow was shaking.

Tan Xingwei: “…”

Why is someone crying? Who is it?
