Xie Sui stood at the edge of the street, his chest rising and falling with each breath, clearly having sprinted all the way down.

Ji Bai froze for a few seconds, then ran over and crashed into his arms, wrapping her hands around his firm waist.

His hug was firm, radiating the unique warmth of the young man, which felt very warm.

Clinging to him, Ji Bai squeezed her eyes shut and nuzzled her nose into the soft fabric of his shirt.

This guy was really…too annoying.

Xie Sui looked down at the girl in his arms and chuckled, “A girlfriend is more important than food.”

“Who’s your girlfriend? Shameless.”

“Whether you admit it or not, anyway, Xie Sui already acknowledged you.”

Before Ji Bai could react, Xie Sui suddenly lowered his head and kissed her lips——

“In this life, I only acknowledge Xiao Bai as my girlfriend. I keep my word.”

Still holding her lower lip between his lips, he finished his piece with deep affection, and then gently sucked on it.

The girl’s lips were soft, moist and warm. Xie Sui felt as though his heart was melting because of her.

He couldn’t help but move his lips against hers, wanting to explore her more deeply.

Ji Bai’s eyelashes trembled. She subconsciously raised a hand to push against his chest. Xie Sui, however, caught her wrist.

“Don’t move.”

He released her lips but still held her tightly. She had a light fragrance on her, its scent was a little bit sweet.

Ji Bai, slender and weak, was completely enveloped in his embrace, possessed entirely by him……

Under the faint glow of the street lights, Ji Bai lifted her head, her heart pounding with fear, and saw his long, beautiful neck. He swallowed softly, his slightly prominent Adam’s apple bobbing.

Clearly, he was trying hard to suppress his surging desire.

Ji Bai tried to break free from his vise-like grip, but Xie Sui only tightened it, threatening, “If you move again, laozi swears I’m going to get hard.”

The words hung in the air, and Ji Bai’s body went stiff. She became obedient and didn’t dare move a muscle.

How could a man be this sensitive, it was just a hug and he……

Her body was stiff, an unnatural blush creeping across her face. She absolutely didn’t dare to glance down.

There was a light drizzle that sprinkled sparsely over their faces and a few raindrops clung to the girl’s trembling eyelashes.

Ji Bai traced the corner of her lips where he had kissed her with her fingertips.

His lips were incredibly soft. The kiss was very restrained and clumsy, as he instinctively held her lips, randomly sucking, which made her lips feel tingly and numb.

Minutes later, Xie Sui slowly loosened his grip and murmured, “Hugging’s done. Time to go.”

“Then I’m heading off.”

Ji Bai clutched the straps of her bag, walked a few steps, and then turned to glance back at him.

He had also just turned, his eyes unwavering as he watched her, a deep intensity gleaming from within his dark pupils.

Xie Sui waved at her.

To the extent that whenever Ji Bai thought of her first kiss, the image that came to her mind was always that rainy night, the young man’s lonely figure under the street light, and his longing gaze.

The truth was, Xie Sui had a reserved and introverted personality, and there were many things he was too embarrassed to say. In the previous life, even until his death, she never once heard him mention “love”.

His presence was his most deepest and passionate way of confessing his love.

He was by her side as she strove to live, and he went with her as she bravely faced her death.

The afternoon after Xie Sui had avenged her, he laid down on the train tracks, cradling her urn.

In the most tragic way imaginable, he merged with her, body and soul, so that not even death could tear them apart.

Ji Bai’s life gradually became peaceful. Ji Feifei, after recovering, never caused her any more problems. First, their parents were much stricter, no longer allowing her to oppose her younger sister. Second, the wrist-slitting incident had truly scared her senseless. It was only after coming so close to death did she understand how valuable life was, and no longer dared to recklessly harm her life.

Life flowed like a gentle stream, entering a flat and peaceful mountain valley, reflecting the shimmering sunlight of summer, quiet and peaceful.

As she entered her third year of high school, their parents didn’t dare to slack off.

Ji Feifei was another story. Her grades had always been above average, but for the past six months, her emotions spun out of control, and her grades plummeted. She would have had no problem getting into a regular top university before, but now…it’s hard to say if she’ll even get into a second-tier one.

For students with a similar academic record, many wealthy parents will find a way to send them abroad. Even if the degree holds little academic excellence, it will at least give them the prestige of having studied abroad.

However, considering Ji Feifei’s physical condition, Tao Jiazhi and Ji Mingzhi wouldn’t possibly feel comfortable letting her travel far away.

There was absolutely no hope for Ji Feifei anymore, at least they could provide for her. In the future, they’ll just find a random position for her at the company.

Ji Bai’s grades, on the other hand, soared. From previously ranking in the top 100, she climbed into the top 50, and in the most recent monthly exam, she shot up to 12th place in their year.

Naturally, their parents pinned all their hopes on Ji Bai, hoping she could, like Ji Jing, get into a top university with outstanding grades. This would give her more leverage in the future to compete for the position of successor to the Ji Group.

One night near the end of September, Xie Sui and his friends walked out of the boxing arena, and were on their way for a midnight snack when a girl’s scream for help echoed from a quiet alley.

They were all young and spirited boys so when they heard the piercing scream for help, they instantly rushed into the dark alley without hesitation.

In front of a luxury Mercedes-Benz, a man was pinning a girl to the ground.

The girl fought back fiercely, desperately trying to reach her phone just half a meter away. The man, however, seized her by the hair, lifting her and shoving her against the car.

A loud “clang” echoed from the car’s body.

The girl winced in pain and let out a muffled groan, her eyes filled with humiliation and hatred.

The man fished a syringe out of his bag and aimed it at the girl’s arm.

Xie Sui was the first to rush over. He raised his leg and landed a kick on the man’s waist. The force of the blow sent the man stumbling back into the wall, and the syringe he was holding clattered to the ground.

Seeing that a few meddling kids had arrived, the man grabbed a sharp knife from his bag and waved it erratically, threatening them not to approach.

“I’m warning you, mind your own business!”

Quick and nimble, Xie Sui avoided the man’s swinging arm. At the same time, he grabbed his wrist and twisted it, sending the knife flying.

Jiang Zhongning dashed over and kicked the knife away. He looked at the thug and said, “Bullying a girl and even using a knife? You call yourself a man?”

The man saw that he was severely outnumbered and that each person was quite skilled. Realizing that his opportunity was gone for good, he had no choice but to flee.

The boys naturally weren’t about to let him go so easily, but the guy was quick on his feet. He vanished in no time, disappearing down the alley until he was out of sight.

A few of them hollered out, “You got the nerve to pick on a girl? How about you show some backbone and stop running?!”

But it was clear they wouldn’t be able to catch him.

The girl propped herself up against the car, then leaned heavily against the door. Clutching her chest, she gasped for air, her breathing fast and shallow.

Jiang Zhongning asked with concern, “Hey, little sis, are you hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital?”

Cong Yuzhou slapped him on the back of his head, “Why are you calling her little sis? You’re probably younger than her.”

Jiang Zhongning looked at her. She was wearing a blazer with a pencil skirt, her attire was very professional making it clear she wasn’t a student.

The girl thanked Xie Sui, who responded nonchalantly, “If it was a robbery, you should probably report it to the police.”

The girl shook her head, “No need, it wasn’t a robbery.”

Looking at the high-end Mercedes-Benz behind the girl, Jiang Zhongning said, “Going out so late at night in such a nice car, you’re bound to run into bad people. It would be best to still report this to the police.”

“Like I said, it wasn’t a robbery, so there’s no need for a police report. I know what I’m doing.”

The girl had politely refused their offer, so Xie Sui, not one to get involved in other people’s business, simply said, “Suit yourself.”

He put his hands in his pockets and turned to leave.

Ji Jing raised her head, saw Xie Sui, and suddenly froze for a moment, “I think I’ve seen you before.”

“Oh.”

Not particularly interested, Xie Sui turned his head and looked at the girl.

Her facial features were delicate and beautiful, and a heroic air brewed between her brows. Her face was a bit pale, perhaps from the fright, but she remained fairly composed. Her steady, hazel eyes had clearly weathered many storms.

Xie Sui thought for a long time, but he still couldn’t remember where he had seen her. He must have seen her before, because she did look a little familiar.

Noticing the confusion on his face, Ji Jing reminded him, “I’m Ji Bai’s older cousin. We met at the charity dinner party.”

A look of recognition flashed across Xie Sui’s face, “It’s you.”

“That’s right, what a coincidence.”

Jiang Zhongning interjected, “Hey, Brother Sui, you two know each other?”

“She’s Xiao Bai’s older sister.”

“So, she’s our future sister-in-law Xiao Bai’s older sister! That’s…what a coincidence.”

Xie Sui shot Jiang Zhongning a look, signaling to him to stop talking nonsense.

Turning back to Ji Jing, he explained, “Ji Bai is my friend.”

Ji Jing was actually quite interested in Ji Bai’s partner because she had never seen such a handsome boy at any of the social events before. But seeing him now, late at night on the street with a few wild and unruly young men, it was obvious he wasn’t a rich young master like Li Chen or Chen Zheyang.

Most likely…came from a poor family.

“I know you’re her friend.” Ji Jing gave a modest smile.

Although Xie Sui denied any relationship with Ji Bai, Ji Jing could still see from the soft look and gentle tone he used when he mentioned Xiao Bai that he didn’t see her as just a friend.

The undeniable light in someone’s eyes when they talk about the person they love was something that simply couldn’t be hidden

Since she was Ji Bai’s older sister, Xie Sui’s indifferent expression softened a little. He turned his head to the side and picked up the syringe from the ground. Inside the syringe was a fingernail-sized amount of blood.

Puzzled, Xie Sui asked her directly, “Are you hurt?”

Ji Jing looked at the blood in the syringe, and her face fell slightly. “I’m not hurt. That blood isn’t mine.”

Jiang Zhongning took the syringe and looked at it, then asked curiously, “If he wasn’t a robber, why would he try to stick you with this?”

Ji Jing’s face was emotionless as she explained, “It could be HIV-infected blood.”

H what V?”

Cong Yuzhou’s face was drained of color, “AIDS!”

“Fuck!”

Jiang Zhongning promptly tossed the syringe away, then frantically wiped his hands on his clothes, fearing he had gotten blood on himself, “I can’t believe it’s AIDS! That’s so fucking vicious! What did you do to offend him?!”

Ji Jing didn’t respond.

Xie Sui’s expression grew grave. He said in a serious tone, “I suggest reporting it to the police. They’ll be able to catch the person from the security cameras.”

“An incident like this, if it happens once, it’ll happen a second, a third…that’s just the way it is, you can’t count on being so lucky every time.”

Ji Jing shook her head, “No need to report it to the police, it would be useless anyway. If you get rid of one, another will just show up. If you can’t catch the person behind them then dealing with these lackeys is useless.”

Xie Sui frowned. “Do you know who’s behind it?”

“I don’t, but the range of suspects isn’t large.” Ji Jing turned towards the boys. “Thank you all, don’t worry. I usually have bodyguards with me. Tonight was an exception.”

Seeing how composed she was, it seemed to Xie Sui that she had gone through this many times before. He really wanted to ask what on earth was going on and why anyone would target a defenseless girl so viciously.

It was clear, however, that Ji Jing wasn’t going to tell him anything more, and there was no point in him asking again.

Ji Jing opened the car door and got inside. She pressed a button to open the window and passed her business card to Xie Sui, “You guys helped me tonight, I will remember this favor. If you ever run into trouble, you can contact me.”

Xie Sui didn’t take her business card, but Jiang Zhongning did, “Is this for Brother Sui, or for all of us?”

A weak smile crossed Ji Jing’s face, “It’s for all of you.”

The black Mercedes-Benz roared as it disappeared at the end of the alley. A cloud of gloom settled over Xie Sui’s face as Ji Jing’s words planted a seed of worry in his heart.

At the dinner party that night, he overheard Ji Bai mention a thing or two, that Ji Jing was currently the most likely to inherit the Ji Group.

Jiang Zhongning interrupted Xie Sui’s deep thoughts, “Brother Sui, this business card, do you want it?”

Xie Sui gave the business card a quick look. The title printed on it read, Executive Director of Jingya Group——Ji Jing.

She was still attending university, and was only a few years older than them, yet she already had her own business.

Standing out too much was a sure way to attract envy.

The thought of his Xiao Bai ever having to face this kind of danger was something Xie Sui couldn’t even bear to think about or he might go insane!

Xie Sui didn’t take the card. He was silent for a moment, then turned back to Cong Yuzhou and said, “Tell the manager of the boxing arena that starting tomorrow, I will continue to fight matches, the kind where people place bets on winning or losing.”

Cong Yuzhou looked at him confused and asked, “Didn’t you say you weren’t going to do it anymore…”

“Don’t tell Xiao Bai.”
