AMBTICBPIB Chapter 22

Shen Jin suddenly wanted to reach out and wipe away those…

Due to his unique constitution, Shen Jin underwent a medical examination every month.

His last checkup had been just the day before, and the report showed that all his vital signs were exceptionally healthy, even better than those of an average person. He was robust and strong, with no minor ailments whatsoever.

Yet just now, Shen Jin had felt a slight discomfort in his chest, as if something were pressing down on it.

However, his wristband showed no reaction, indicating that the sensation must have been a hallucination. Since he hadn’t experienced any pain, he shouldn’t have felt anything at all.

After a moment’s thought, Shen Jin removed his wristband and replaced it with a brand-new one, but the new device still showed no warnings.

Without changing his expression, Shen Jin pinched himself hard. The wristband immediately reacted, its green light flashing. He pinched himself even harder, and the green glow deepened.

The wristband would alert him whenever Chu Yi bumped into him, but it had remained silent just now. This meant his body hadn’t registered any pain, so why did he feel this lingering discomfort?

Shen Jin pondered for a moment, concluding he was likely overthinking things. Though his body was healthier than the average person’s, he lacked the normal human capacity to feel pain. He had completely forgotten what pain felt like, and perhaps he would never experience it again in his lifetime.

Chu Yi slept soundly and woke up refreshed, showing no signs of a hangover.

Butler Wen only learned the next day that Chu Yi had fallen asleep without drinking hangover soup the previous night, but Shen Jin had carried him back to his room. This news filled Butler Wen with even greater satisfaction.

Concerned that Chu Yi might feel dizzy upon waking, Butler Wen prepared a hangover soup for him.

Although Chu Yi felt perfectly fine, he obediently drank the soup Uncle Wen had made. He was also slightly puzzled. He remembered everything from the previous day, including sitting on the sofa and falling asleep from exhaustion.

However, he couldn’t recall how he had gotten upstairs.

Butler Wen explained, “Shen Jin carried you back to your room.”

When Shen Jin arrived for breakfast, Chu Yi expressed his gratitude, “Thank you, Mr. Shen, for carrying me back to my room yesterday.” Otherwise, he might have spent the night sleeping on the sofa.

Shen Jin hummed in acknowledgment and sat down to eat breakfast. Chu Yi spoke to him as usual, confirming that he had no memory of Shen Jin holding his hand and “teasing” him the previous day.

Today’s breakfast was a selection of Cantonese dim sum, exquisitely crafted, beautiful, and delicious.

The char siu bao, split open, revealed tender, juicy meat with an utterly divine flavor. Chu Yi devoured two of them. The crystal shrimp dumplings, translucent and glistening, showcased plump, bright red shrimp inside. The rice cakes, subtly sweet and fluffy, were so addictive he couldn’t stop eating them.

Since coming to the Shen Family, Chu Yi had tasted and seen more new breakfast dishes than he ever had before.

As Chu Yi was engrossed in his meal, he overheard Shen Jin instructing Butler Wen, “Uncle Wen, starting today, assign him a car and driver.”

Chu Yi looked up at Shen Jin. Only three of them were at the table—could he be referring to him? Surely not.

Unaware, Chu Yi’s expression betrayed his confusion.

Shen Jin met his gaze. “From now on, have the driver take you wherever you need to go. When you’re out and want to return, just call the driver. He’ll pick you up anytime, day or night. Try to avoid taking taxis home yourself.”

Butler Wen chuckled. “I’ll have Xiao Zhou drive you. He’s young, reliable, and a smooth driver.”

Shen Jin paused. “Better arrange someone more mature and steady.”

Butler Wen smiled. “Alright, I’ll have Lao Li take you.”

Chu Yi’s eyes lit up. “Thank you, Mr. Shen.” He didn’t know why Shen Jin was suddenly being so kind, but he certainly appreciated it.

His steps felt lighter as he walked, buoyed by his happiness. It still felt like a dream—Shen Jin was truly a good person.

As he walked down the corridor, he stepped aside to make way for someone cleaning.

A sudden crash shattered Chu Yi’s joyful mood. He looked down to see shards of porcelain scattered across the floor, one piece landing right at his feet.

He recognized the vase immediately. It had stood on the cabinet, and though he didn’t know much about porcelain, he found it strikingly beautiful, with its graceful curves and captivating luster.

He had once overheard a maid mentioning how incredibly expensive it was.

Now, this exquisite and priceless porcelain lay shattered into pieces.

Chu Yi froze, as did the housekeeper beside him.

The housekeeper, Sister Wang, was older than the others and was addressed as such. Taking advantage of her age, she often rolled her eyes at Chu Yi.

Sister Wang glared at Chu Yi. “You broke the porcelain! This was Mr. Shen’s favorite piece, worth millions! How could you be so careless? Do you even watch where you’re going?”

Upon hearing the staggering sum, Chu Yi nearly fainted. *Millions?!* Even if he sold himself, it wouldn’t cover a fraction of the cost.

Drawn by the commotion, Butler Wen hurried over to investigate.

Sister Wang beat him to it. “Butler Wen, Chu Yi was rushing and knocked over the porcelain.”

Sister Wang knew this porcelain was exceptionally rare and precious. During their daily cleaning, they handled it with extreme care, never daring to touch it.

Butler Wen surveyed the shattered fragments scattered across the floor. Chu Yi was about to kneel and gather the pieces when Butler Wen quickly intervened. “Chu Yi, don’t move! You’ll cut yourself. Stay back—you might step on the shards.”

Pulling Chu Yi closer, Butler Wen instructed the others to clean up the broken porcelain.

The commotion drew Shen Jin over.

Seeing the grave expression on Shen Jin’s face, Chu Yi’s eyes instantly reddened. Their relationship had just begun to thaw at the dinner table, and now he had ruined it again.

*Such valuable porcelain… Shen Jin must be furious. Why do I always manage to anger him?*

“Mr. Shen,” Chu Yi said, knowing he had caused trouble and daring not to say another word.

Shen Jin’s frown deepened. He knew perfectly well that he wasn’t simply annoyed by seeing Chu Yi cry.

It was strange. The first time he saw Chu Yi cry, Shen Jin had frowned in impatience, but he had never felt genuine aversion. Yet Chu Yi had shed tears before him time and again.

The corners of Chu Yi’s eyes were flushed red. Such beautiful eyes were ill-suited for tears. Pearl-like droplets fell one by one, like the legendary tears of a mermaid. Shen Jin suddenly felt an urge to reach out and wipe them away.

The same sensation from yesterday returned, and Shen Jin froze, knowing this was no mere hallucination.

Sister Wang observed Shen Jin’s expression and Chu Yi’s tears, secretly pleased. She knew Shen Jin loathed seeing others cry in his presence.

Lowering her head, Sister Wang explained, “Mr. Shen, Butler Wen, I was cleaning here when Mr. Chu Yi rushed in. He must have been moving too quickly and accidentally knocked over the porcelain. It was entirely his fault.”

Having worked for the Shen Family for over a year without a single mistake, Sister Wang was confident Shen Jin and Butler Wen would believe her over Chu Yi, who had only been here for a few months. Moreover, she knew Shen Jin disliked Chu Yi.

Shen Jin said coldly, “Uncle Wen, have her leave the Shen Family today.”

Chu Yi, thinking Shen Jin meant him, nearly stopped breathing. He looked up to see Shen Jin offering him a tissue. “Are you hurt?”

His voice was no longer icy.

Chu Yi replied softly, “No.”

After confirming Chu Yi was unharmed, Shen Jin said, “Go wash your face. Uncle Wen will handle this.”

At first, Sister Wang assumed Shen Jin was referring to Chu Yi. But seeing Butler Wen’s expression and Shen Jin handing Chu Yi a tissue while asking if he was hurt, she realized the one being dismissed was her.

Sister Wang, still unaware of her mistake, hurriedly said, “Mr. Shen, have I done something wrong? I didn’t break the porcelain; Chu Yi did.”

Butler Wen replied, “Don’t you know what you’ve done? Your greatest mistake was disrespecting Chu Yi.”

Sister Wang opened her mouth to protest, weakly insisting, “I didn’t disrespect Mr. Chu Yi.”

Butler Wen continued, “Even if Chu Yi had broken the vase, you have no right to raise your voice here. Chu Yi can break anything in this villa, and you have no right to criticize him, let alone speak ill of him.”

Butler Wen was usually mild-mannered, with a kind smile and a gentle demeanor towards everyone. He rarely lost his temper, which was why Chu Yi had immediately perceived him as a warm and approachable person.

But this was the first time Butler Wen had shown such clear anger.

Sister Wang finally realized the gravity of the situation. “Butler Wen, Mr. Shen, I was wrong. I’ll never do it again.”

“It’s too late,” Butler Wen said pointedly. “You’ve been accepting favors from Shen Chunhan, haven’t you?”

Sister Wang’s face turned ashen. How could Shen Jin and the others know about this? “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“If you don’t want anyone to know, don’t do it,” Butler Wen said. “Leave the Shen Family immediately.”

Sister Wang was genuinely terrified this time. How could she have forgotten what kind of person Shen Jin was? Even Shen Chunhan feared him. How could her petty schemes possibly escape Shen Jin’s notice right under his nose?

Tears and snot streamed down Sister Wang’s face. “Mr. Shen, I truly know I was wrong. I’ll never do it again. Please don’t kick me out!” The Shen Family offered excellent benefits, high wages, and light, easy work. She’d never find such a comfortable job again.

Moreover, if she were expelled from the Shen Family, no one else would dare hire her.

Shen Jin’s gaze suddenly sharpened. Sister Wang knew this meant he was utterly disgusted. He loathed people crying in front of him.

Sister Li, who was close to Sister Wang, trembled beside her. They had often gossiped about Chu Yi’s flaws and rolled their eyes behind his back.

*Butler Wen couldn’t possibly know about that, right?*

Butler Wen turned to her. “You’ll leave the Shen Family with her today.”

The others watched the scene unfold, inwardly relieved they hadn’t disrespected Chu Yi before. From now on, they wouldn’t dare treat him with anything but deference.

Chu Yi was washing his face in the bathroom while Shen Jin stood by the door.

“From now on, if anything like this happens again, you don’t need to cry. You don’t have to cry. You can come straight to me.”

Chu Yi turned to look at Shen Jin, blinking in confusion. His red-rimmed eyes and vulnerable expression made him look utterly pitiful.

Chu Yi stared at Shen Jin in disbelief. No one had ever said such words to him before, and the fact that they were coming from Shen Jin—the man who loathed seeing others cry—made it even more astonishing.

“Mr. Shen, I broke the porcelain. I’m so sorry.”

“It’s alright,” Shen Jin replied.

Chu Yi pondered the value of the porcelain. “Was that porcelain very expensive?”

Before Shen Jin could answer, Chu Yi continued, “It must have been incredibly expensive. Even if you sold me, I wouldn’t be worth half of it.”

Shen Jin gave him a disapproving look.

Having finished dealing with the incident, Butler Wen approached Shen Jin to report.

Chu Yi, still in the bathroom, remained unaware of the earlier events. Only after Uncle Wen briefly explained did he learn that the two maids had been expelled from the Shen Family.

Seeing Chu Yi’s puzzled expression, Butler Wen smiled.

That very afternoon, Shen Chunhan learned that his scheme to bribe the maids had been exposed.

It finally dawned on him that Shen Jin had known all along but had patiently bided his time.

*This son of mine is truly terrifying.*
