AMBTICBPIB Chapter 38

At a high-end private hospital…

Dr. Meng, the hospital’s chief physician and Shen Jin’s personal doctor, was reviewing Shen Jin’s medical report. He had already examined it at least three times. Given the importance of Mr. Shen’s health, Dr. Meng naturally scrutinized the report with utmost care and rigor. However, this time he was taking an unusually long time.

After finishing his review, Dr. Meng said, “Mr. Shen, your physical condition is excellent.”

Shen Jin hummed in acknowledgment, a familiar refrain from previous checkups.

After a moment of contemplation, Dr. Meng carefully phrased his next question: “Mr. Shen, have you noticed anything unusual lately?”

Shen Jin’s dark eyes fixed on Dr. Meng.

Despite knowing Shen Jin for years, Dr. Meng still felt a subconscious tension when faced with his unwavering gaze.

“For example, when you were injured, did you experience any sensations that felt different? Perhaps not pain, but a distinct sensation unlike anything you’ve felt before?”

Shen Jin recalled the two previous unusual sensations. “Yes.”

Having received confirmation, Dr. Meng became even more certain and shared good news with Shen Jin. “Mr. Shen, your nerves appear to be gradually recovering.”

Shen Jin thought back to the needle’s scraping sensation and calmly asked, “What does this mean?”

Dr. Meng felt that no matter what happened, Shen Jin’s reaction remained consistently detached, making it impossible to discern his thoughts or emotions.

For someone with Shen Jin’s condition, regaining normal sensation would be an incredibly exciting prospect. Most people would be overjoyed, but Shen Jin remained remarkably composed.

Dr. Meng explained, “Your nerve damage was caused by medication, not congenital analgesia. It’s possible, Mr. Shen, that your body could regain the ability to feel pain.”

Shen Jin looked at him. Dr. Meng continued, “I’ll develop a treatment plan for you. I recommend acupuncture therapy.”

Shen Jin trusted Dr. Meng completely. “You decide.”

Though Shen Jin remained taciturn, Dr. Meng could sense a significant improvement in his mood.

After Shen Jin left, Dr. Meng immediately began researching the latest medical literature to devise the most effective treatment plan for him.

Dr. Meng remembered their first meeting. Shen Jin had been just a fifteen-year-old boy, yet he possessed a maturity far beyond his years.

Their paths had crossed when Dr. Meng was stranded and desperate overseas. Without Shen Jin’s intervention, he would never have achieved his current success.

As they exited the hospital, Chen Ye, walking ahead, asked, “Mr. Shen, shall we head straight to Lan University now?”

“First, to the sanatorium,” Shen Jin replied.

“Understood,” Chen Ye said, and the car sped off.

The sedan pulled up to the entrance of an exclusive private sanatorium. The facility boasted state-of-the-art medical equipment, and Shen Jin was its largest shareholder.

As Shen Jin entered, the staff greeted him respectfully as “Mr. Shen.”

He proceeded directly to a patient room.

Lying motionless in the bed was a gaunt man—Shen Chunhan. He lay completely still, his life sustained only by a ventilator.

The hospital room was luxurious, spacious, and brightly lit. It was impeccably clean, with a bouquet of fresh flowers on the table, their fragrance filling the air. The room exuded a warm, comforting atmosphere.

A nurse explained, “The flowers in this room are replaced with the freshest ones every day.”

Shen Jin nodded, and the nurse excused herself, leaving Chen Ye waiting at the door.

Shen Jin gazed at the man on the bed, his eyes devoid of emotion, as if he were looking at an object—a lifeless pile of flesh.

“You must live,” Shen Jin said, his voice cold. “Live and truly experience your current existence. You are now utterly abandoned by everyone.” Since Shen Chunhan’s accident, not a single person had come to visit him.

Even Shen Chunhan’s closest confidant, his butler, hadn’t visited him once since he was hospitalized. Those who had once been close to him now kept their distance.

The man on the bed lay motionless, his eyes closed, showing no reaction.

“Don’t worry,” Shen Jin continued. “I’ll ensure you receive the best possible care. You’ll live a very, very long time… like this, lying in bed for the rest of your life.”

“You must atone for the sins you’ve committed.”

Shen Jin sat calmly in his chair, his gaze fixed on Shen Chunhan.

After their mother’s death, Shen Chunhan had sent Shen Jin abroad to live. At just eight years old, Shen Jin was left in the care of a nanny.

But that nanny had been sent by Shen Chunhan to monitor him, waiting for an opportunity to kill the young boy in a foreign land.

One day, while Shen Jin was delirious with a high fever, the nanny tricked him into swallowing a handful of pills.

If Uncle Wen hadn’t arrived just in time, Shen Jin might not have survived.

Though Shen Jin escaped immediate danger, the drugs damaged his nerves, leaving him without the ability to feel pain. The nanny had long since vanished without a trace.

From that day forward, Shen Chunhan harbored a mix of fear, dread, and hatred toward Shen Jin.

After a few minutes in the hospital room, Shen Jin left, certain he would never return.

Leaving the sanatorium, Shen Jin drove straight to Lan University to pick up Chu Yi.

At the school gate, he saw Chu Yi chatting with his friends. Chu Yi spotted Shen Jin’s car and waved with a smile, signaling he’d be over in a moment.

Seeing Chu Yi, a faint smile finally broke through the gloom on Shen Jin’s face.

Jiang Xu asked, “Is your boyfriend here to pick you up?”

Chu Yi scratched his head, embarrassed.

Jiang Xu remarked, “You and your boyfriend have such a good relationship. I always see him picking you up.”

As Chu Yi was talking to Jiang Xu, a boy had quietly approached them without either noticing, until he called out Jiang Xu’s name.

Jiang Xu jumped in surprise. “When did you get here? What are you doing at our school?”

Zhou Huaixiao nodded to Chu Yi and then said to Jiang Xu, “We agreed I’d treat you to dinner tonight, so I came to pick you up.”

Jiang Xu scoffed. “I can get there myself. I know the way.”

Zhou Huaixiao smiled. “Just think of it as me wanting to see you sooner.”

Jiang Xu hissed and glared at him. “What nonsense are you spouting?”

Despite being scolded, Zhou Huaixiao remained cheerful, his face beaming with a smile.

Chu Yi blinked his beautiful eyes, sensing that Jiang Xu and Zhou Huaixiao’s relationship had grown closer. It was a stark contrast to their first meeting, when Jiang Xu had been visibly furious.

After parting ways with Jiang Xu and Zhou Huaixiao, Chu Yi nearly jogged toward the luxury car parked nearby.

He hopped into the car and plopped down next to Shen Jin. “What made you decide to pick me up today?” he asked. “I thought you were supposed to be busy.”

“I’ve finished my work,” Shen Jin replied. “We’re not going home tonight. I’m taking you out to dinner.”

“Sounds good!” Chu Yi said.

On the way, Shen Jin asked what Chu Yi wanted to eat.

Chu Yi pondered for a moment. “I’m craving something spicy. Let’s have Sichuan cuisine.”

Shen Jin took Chu Yi to a Sichuan restaurant and let him order whatever he wanted.

Dry-pot spicy duck heads, boiled fish in chili oil, and stir-fried pork with hot peppers—all fiery dishes perfect for rice.

By the end of the meal, Chu Yi’s lips had transformed from a rosy pink to a vivid red. Shen Jin had thoughtfully ordered a glass of yogurt to help cool the burn.

Chu Yi ate his fill, completely satisfied. After dinner, the two returned home.

Almost every time he returned home, Uncle Wen would greet Chu Yi warmly, “Chu Yi’s back!”

Uncle Wen had been away for two days now, and Chu Yi was already missing him. He wondered when Uncle Wen would return.

Just as Chu Yi was about to head upstairs, Shen Jin called out to him, “I promised to take you to the club to play.”

Chu Yi’s face lit up with excitement as he looked at Shen Jin.

Shen Jin smiled. “How about we go to the club tomorrow?”

“That’s great!” Chu Yi eagerly rushed forward to hug Shen Jin. “Can we really go tomorrow?” He truly loved the feeling of racing at breakneck speed.

“Alright, we’ll go tomorrow,” Shen Jin agreed.

Chu Yi was overjoyed. “Shen Jin, you’re the best!”

In his excitement, Chu Yi instinctively tightened his grip around Shen Jin’s neck. He suddenly froze, realizing he was hugging Shen Jin, who was looking down at him.

An awkward silence hung between them.

Chu Yi pursed his lips, and just as he was about to pull away, Shen Jin wrapped his arms around him.
