With Naofumi, even though there was the issue of them both being men, they could build a relationship that led toward the light. Just as Naofumi had guided him when he was a clueless mentee. He pulled him forward and helped him grow. Naofumi would surely continue to lead him into a better, more normal world.

His relationship with Tasuku—his own younger brother—would likely lead him in the opposite direction, into a world of darkness. The stark contrast between light and dark became cruelly clear.

“What kind of person is it? A man? A woman? How old?”

“…”

It was a question he couldn’t possibly answer. And yet, Kairi had no confidence that he could lie and not be caught. As he kept his mouth tightly shut, Kairi’s phone began to ring. Awkwardly, he took it out to check the caller.

Of all people, it was the last person he wanted to hear from right now.

“Go ahead, answer it.”

Naofumi’s voice had a slight edge to it, having read Kairi’s expression.

Just answer quickly and hang up, Kairi thought to himself. He turned his back to Naofumi and pressed the answer button.

“Hello. What’s up?”

“‘What’s up?’ You said you’d be back before midnight. It’s already past twelve.”

“Tonight… I’m going to be a little late.”

“Where are you?”

“I’m at work. Overtime—ah!”

Naofumi’s hand slid over Kairi’s lower abdomen, as if to admonish him for lying. He pinched the metal piercing through the fabric, tugging at it.

“S-stop…!”

“Aniki?”

Panicking, Kairi grabbed the phone, covering the receiver with his hand. He protested in a shaky whisper.

“Please… stop!”

“…Kairi, who’s there with you?”

Tasuku’s growling voice struck Kairi’s ears.

“No one—call you back later—!”

In Kairi’s flustered reaction, Naofumi seemed to have made up his mind. He swiftly snatched the phone from Kairi’s hand.

“Are you Kairi’s lover?”

Naofumi stood up, evading Kairi’s attempts to retrieve the phone, and spoke into it.

Tasuku likely answered, “Yes.” Though Naofumi had only met him once, he didn’t recognize Tasuku’s voice right away. Kairi thought that was at least one small saving grace.

“I see. Kairi is at my house right now. I’ll give you the address. If you’re his lover, come here immediately. We need to talk.”

Shocked, Kairi shot up from the sofa. But before he could get the phone back, Naofumi had already given Tasuku the address and casually handed the phone back to Kairi.

“Don’t come! You don’t need to come!”

Kairi shouted angrily. But the call had already been disconnected.

What should he do?

Tasuku would definitely drive over here.

Everything was going to be exposed.

The fact that it was his younger brother who put in the body piercings. The fact that they were real siblings engaging in lustful acts together.

The taboo that had so far been confined to just the two of them—Tasuku and himself—was about to be exposed.

The floor under Kairi’s feet seemed to warp, his vision distorting, straight lines bending into curves. Unable to remain standing, Kairi dropped heavily onto the sofa. He wanted to run away. But even if he ran now, once Tasuku arrived, the truth would come out.

More than that, Kairi had no right to run away—from either Tasuku or Naofumi.

Plagued by dizzying waves of reality slipping in and out of focus, Kairi could only wait.

About thirty minutes passed after the call. The doorbell rang, echoing through the room. It rang repeatedly, reflecting the irritation of the person pressing it.

Naofumi, seated beside him, rose from the sofa.

Kairi, with his face pale, followed Naofumi’s movements with his eyes. The front door wasn’t visible from the sofa. His body felt like it had turned to stone. Amidst that stiffness, his heart pounded violently. He heard the sound of the door opening.

What kind of expression was Naofumi making as he saw Tasuku standing there?

He must have been confused.

After all, it was Tasuku, Kairi’s younger brother, who had shown up as his ‘lover’. He was the one who had pierced Kairi’s body.

The sound of two sets of footsteps approached. Kairi, unable to raise his head, kept his gaze down, lowering his eyes deeply. His hands, clenched into fists on his thighs, had veins of tension bulging across the backs of them.

“Kairi!”

Tasuku’s voice rang through Naofumi’s room.

As Tasuku tried to rush over to him, Naofumi stopped him, guiding him to the single-seater sofa positioned perpendicular to the two-seater where Kairi sat. Then, Naofumi sat down next to Kairi, positioning himself between the brothers.

Kairi, steeling himself, finally raised his head.

His eyes met Tasuku’s. Tasuku’s expression was that of someone who wanted to devour him whole.

“Earlier… during the call, did this guy do something to you?”

Tasuku’s voice was a low growl.

Kairi had no idea how to answer in a way that would defuse the situation. Just like how his body was stiff, his mind had completely frozen. He opened his mouth as if to say something but then closed it again, unsure of what to say.

“Before we go any further, could you explain what’s going on, Tasuku-kun?”

Naofumi’s voice cut in. He sounded cold and stern.

“What do you mean, ‘what’s going on’?”

“I said, ‘If you’re his lover, come here.’”

Tasuku answered without hesitation. “That’s why I’m here. I’m Kairi’s lover.”

“…Aren’t you Kairi’s younger brother?”

“I am. So what?”

Silence fell as Naofumi tried to make sense of the situation, pressing on with another question.

“Are you step-siblings, from a remarriage or something? You’re not related by blood?”

“Huh?”

“Or are you half-brothers, maybe?”

“Oh, people say we don’t look alike, but no. We’re 100% blood-related brothers.”

“…”

Naofumi’s Adam’s apple bobbed noticeably. Then, he asked one more question.

“Are you the one who pierced Kairi’s body?”

“How do you know about that?!”

Tasuku shot up from the sofa.

“Kairi, did you show him? Did you do something with this guy?!”

Naofumi stood up as well, grabbing Tasuku’s arm as he reached toward Kairi.

“You’re the one who did something—to your own brother!”

It was the first time Kairi had ever heard Naofumi shout in anger. His sharp voice struck Tasuku like a whip.

“To do such a pitiful thing in such a place. You must have forced it, huh. And to be lovers as brothers, how ridiculous…”

“Don’t joke around. Kairi, from his hair to his toes, his heart and body are all mine.”

“…The childish brother-complex should stop already. You’re already twenty-three.”

Tasuku snorted. “It’s not childish. I’m loving him in a very mature way, don’t you know?”

A look of confusion deepened on Naofumi’s profile.
