Crybaby Transmigrated into a Little Husband Chapter 70

Probe Out

Chapter 70: 試探【修】

Probe Out [Revised]

Seeing Sang Jiayi so obediently compliant, the eldest madam felt thoroughly satisfied. Gazing at her niece before her, head bowed in the manner of a dutiful young daughter, the madam gently patted her hand, her words carrying the weight of a promise: “Within the Ji household, no one will mistreat you.”

Sang Jiayi lowered her head even further, her voice barely audible as she murmured, ” But Third Brother treats his husband so well. I wonder what he’s thinking.”

Hearing Sang Jiayi’s words—her concern that she might not receive her husband’s affection after marriage—the First Lady paid little heed. She replied indifferently, “Men always have multiple wives and concubines. Besides, Jiayi, you’re so beautiful. No man could fail to be charmed by you. ” She paused briefly before patting her shoulder. “Just be prepared. I’ll handle the rest.” The unspoken words lingered on her lips.

Sang Jiayi glanced up at the First Lady’s expression, noticing it wasn’t very good, and quickly lowered her head again. She nodded lightly, a soft “Mhm” escaping her nose.

They exchanged pleasantries for a while longer. Though unspoken, both parties tacitly acknowledged that Sang Jiayi would marry Ji Ling. The madam, especially after a moment’s thought, ordered someone to fetch Ji Ling.

Originally, Ji Ling had no social engagements today, and Sang Jiayi wasn’t coming either. The couple had planned to spend a relaxing day in their small courtyard.

At that moment, Ji Ling was playing a sandbox game with Tang Xiaobao. Watching his opponent across the board rack his brains while he himself was on the verge of victory, Ji Ling remained utterly calm, his fingers moving leisurely. Tang Xiaobao, already frowning in deep thought for quite some time, still couldn’t figure out his next move. He kept feeling that one more wrong step would get him lost.

“Decided yet?” Ji Ling asked mischievously, his tone carrying an unmistakable hint of impatience as he observed Tang Xiaobao’s face, now creased into a tight knot.

Already hesitant, Tang Xiaobao glanced at Ji Ling upon hearing his voice, then resolved to move the piece to the left. But the moment he did, Ji Ling calmly picked up his own piece and executed a devastating capture, as if he’d been preparing for this all along.

Tang Xiaobao stared at Ji Ling in disbelief, his eyes brimming with silent accusation.

Seeing the look in Tang Xiaobao’s eyes, Ji Ling felt a momentary pang of guilt, as if he’d bullied a child. He cleared his throat to clear the air. “You said to yourself you didn’t need me to let you win.”

Only then did Tang Xiaobao recall his earlier words, and his frustration deepened. His cheeks puffed out visibly, his face flushing with indignation.

Seeing Tang Xiaobao upset, Ji Ling moved to comfort him. Just as he stood up and approached the boy, a knock sounded at the door, followed by Feng Ling’s announcement: “Young Master, a letter has arrived from Da Fu Ren.”

Ji Ling’s movements froze instantly, and even Tang Xiaobao, still sulking, looked up. Ji Ling quickly responded to the door, “I’ll be right there.” Then, he swiftly grabbed the flags from the sand table and tossed them into a special box. The sand table itself was also quickly hidden away.

Their movements were exceptionally swift, clearly the result of repeated practice. Only after everything was secured did Ji Ling open the door and step before the senior maid who had delivered the message.

The visitor was the senior maid from the First Lady’s quarters. Though her expression betrayed some nervousness as she looked at Ji Ling, she remained resolute in conveying her mistress’s message. “Third Young Master, the First Lady says there is urgent business to discuss with you. She requests your presence.”

Ji Ling glanced at the maid before nodding indifferently. “I understand. Wait a moment while I change my clothes.”

“Yes, sir.” Hearing Ji Ling’s reply, the maid visibly relaxed before watching him enter.

When Ji Ling entered and saw Tang Xiaobao, the boy was standing by the doorway, staring at him with helplessly wide eyes, clearly fascinated by the commotion outside. Remembering why he was being summoned, Ji Ling addressed Tang Xiaobao directly, “My aunt asked me to come. Stay here. Don’t let anyone see that sand table.”

Hearing he had to go to the First Lady’s quarters, Tang Xiaobao felt a pang of disappointment. Ji Ling’s repeated warnings about not touching the sand table only deepened his gloom. Yet, he immediately recalled Ji Ling’s words from the first time he’d brought it out. Nodding, he signaled his understanding.

Satisfied that Tang Xiaobao had obeyed, Ji Ling turned to change clothes. His earlier sternness had been for show—a necessary part of the act when entering the room to warn Tang Xiaobao. By the time Ji Ling finished changing, Tang Xiaobao was standing by the doorway, watching him with wide eyes and a look that was almost pitiful.

This version of Tang Xiaobao made Ji Ling feel a tingle of desire. He walked over, pulled him close, and kissed him for a while. He released him soon after. Only after Ji Ling had left did Tang Xiaobao stare at his retreating back, smiling foolishly for a moment.

But the thought of where Ji Ling was headed quickly soured his mood. He knew that woman didn’t like him, and he didn’t like her either, who always kept Ji Ling in her thoughts—don’t think he didn’t know. But what could he do about it? She was his elder ah. Tang Xiaobao, completely inexperienced in the intrigues of the household, felt utterly lost. He didn’t even know what to do to stop that old woman from continuing to drive a wedge between him and Ji Ling. This was truly distressed.
