First kiss

Chapter 15: First Kiss

Yu Haozhou immediately perked up his ears, but he pretended not to care and didn’t make a sound. After he finished his business, Zhou Zizheng buckled his belt and hugged him around the waist as they left the room.

He called someone to drive them back to their home. All the way, Zhou Zizheng did not bring up the question again, making Yu Haozhou scratch his head in frustration. He should have just asked why in the bathroom earlier! Now he couldn’t open his mouth.

He must be doing it on purpose. Definitely!

Yu Haozhou pouted and lay down by himself, ignoring him. Zhou Zizheng pulled him back into his arms with force, looking down at him and smiling: “What are you pouting for? You said you didn’t care.”

He really was doing it on purpose.

Yu Haozhou stopped pretending, habitually kicking him. He glared at him with watery eyes, as if saying: Are you going to tell me or not?

One second, Zhou Zizheng was cursing about when he developed such a bad habit; the next, he squinted his eyes, leaned in, and covered Yu Haozhou’s lips, saying vaguely: “You’re just a temptress sent specifically to seduce me.”

The driver in the front silently closed the partition.

The sound of kissing lasted for a long time before stopping. Yu Haozhou was completely weak, collapsing into Zhou Zizheng’s arms. All the oxygen in his brain was sucked away; he felt dizzy.

Who was the real temptress here?

Zhou Zizheng held him tightly, wanting to embed him in his embrace. After taking a deep, slow breath, he finally spoke: “I’ve liked you since high school.”

These words hit Yu Haozhou like a sudden blow, completely sobering him up. He looked up at Zhou Zizheng’s expression in shock. The seriousness on his face didn’t seem fake. Could it really have been that long ago?

After a moment of silence, Yu Haozhou didn’t speak. Zhou Zizheng continued: “Zhouzhou, you’re a young master who is used to a comfortable life. I was just a poor boy. I had a clear understanding that until I found my family, we weren’t suitable.”

Yu Haozhou felt compelled to defend himself, frowning as he questioned: “Why are you making it sound so righteous? Do you think I’m the kind of person who worships wealth and despises poverty?”

Zhou Zizheng answered with certainty: “You are not.”

“But I won’t let others look down on you and say you married a useless husband. I didn’t want to be a stain on your life.”

Yu Haozhou fell silent again, his heart feeling a mixture of bitterness and sadness. Was this really the only reason? If he hadn’t thought that way, would they have been together sweetly and affectionately all those years ago?

He couldn’t help but recall his senior year of high school.

On the night of the graduation party, the whole class was having fun together. Due to the atmosphere, both of them had a few drinks; they were tipsy but still conscious. Yu Haozhou felt restless in the stuffy private room, occasionally glancing at Zhou Zizheng, who was enthusiastically playing games with others on the other side.

He wanted to ask Zhou Zizheng which schools he planned to apply to, but that felt too subservient. Ever since the cold war over his leg injury, the dynamic between them had become incredibly strange, with only a handful of conversations in two years.

The more Yu Haozhou watched Zhou Zizheng’s carefree appearance, the more annoyed he became. He stood up and left the room, holding a pack of cigarettes he had swiped from a friend.

He heard that smoking and drinking could relieve sorrow.

Drinking hadn’t worked, so he would try smoking. He lit one, put it in his mouth, and took a drag. It was incredibly harsh; the smoke billowed, stinging his eyes until he couldn’t open them. He angrily thought, What kind of person even likes smoking this crap?

Just as he was about to take a second puff, the cigarette was snatched away. It was difficult to see clearly in the dim corridor, but Yu Haozhou recognized Zhou Zizheng instantly. He was about to curse at whoever was so inconsiderate, but seeing it was him, his anger instantly dissipated.

Under the hazy night sky, the atmosphere was enchanting, especially with a slight breeze that seemed to swirl in their heads. Yu Haozhou clenched his hands and couldn’t resist asking: “Where are you planning to apply?”

Zhou Zizheng didn’t argue as Yu Haozhou had expected. He answered truthfully: “I don’t know yet, maybe a school in the capital.”

“Oh…” He hadn’t expected to get the information so easily.

Their grades were similar. If they applied smartly, there was a high probability they could get into the same university.

Zhou Zizheng leaned his elbow on the railing, turned, and asked him: “What about you? Have you decided where to apply?”

Yu Haozhou deliberately teased him, scoffing: “You’re running north, so I’ll definitely run south. The farther away from you, the better.”

Zhou Zizheng laughed in annoyance, licking his back molar. He then asked the question that had troubled him for a long time: “Yu Haozhou, did I offend you? You seem to have disliked me ever since school started.”

Yu Haozhou blinked. Naturally, he wouldn’t reveal that it was because of that senior’s question. At this moment, the atmosphere of their conversation was unusually harmonious, so he casually said, “What’s it to you? I’ll do whatever I want.”

Zhou Zizheng pressed his tongue against his cheek. “Okay.”

He suddenly became serious: “Since we’re about to go our separate ways, let’s have a temporary truce.”

Yu Haozhou replied nonchalantly, “Fine.”

Zhou Zizheng added, “Verbal sincerity isn’t enough. There should at least be some action.”

Yu Haozhou was unusually patient, countering, “So what kind of—”

Before he could finish speaking, the back of his neck was grabbed and tightly gripped. Yu Haozhou was forced to tilt his head back and kiss the person. After taking two seconds to realize what was happening, he immediately started pushing and shoving, punching and kicking the person.

However, Zhou Zizheng was completely unmoving. He gripped Yu Haozhou’s wrists and forced him into the corner. Unable to move, Yu Haozhou’s lips were pried open, and he was kissed wantonly, roughly, and wildly. He gradually followed his heart’s desire, wrapping his arms around Zhou Zizheng’s lean waist and responding.

He didn’t know how long they lingered in that dark corner. Maybe ten minutes, maybe half an hour. Zhou Zizheng, satisfied with the kiss, finally let him go.

Yu Haozhou leaned against the wall, desperately catching his breath. Before leaving, Zhou Zizheng squeezed his round butt, then walked away with great swagger, never looking back.

“What the hell?”

Yu Haozhou stared at the empty space for a long time, unable to recover, “Did I just get harassed?”

He thought Zhou Zizheng would at least offer some explanation. But he just left like that. Isn’t that just being a scoundrel?

Yu Haozhou couldn’t sleep that entire night. He stared at Zhou Zizheng’s chat interface, waiting for an explanation, but the person truly offered none, not a single word.

Early the next morning, Yu Haozhou, guessing when he would be awake, showed up with two dark circles under his eyes and sent a question mark. Next to the question mark appeared a red exclamation mark.

Looking at the small line of words next to it, Yu Haozhou had never been so enraged. He gritted his teeth and slammed his phone onto the bed: “Zhou Zizheng, I’m never going to forgive you! If I ever see you again, I’ll beat you to death, or I’m not surnamed Yu!”

When filling out his college applications, he still chose a school in the capital. Not for any other reason, but to personally beat up Zhou Zizheng. Yu Haozhou spent the entire summer feeling utterly listless.

On the first day of school, his parents were busy moving and dealing with company matters. He dragged his suitcase to school alone to register, and fate—or bad luck—had him see Zhou Zizheng right at the entrance.

God had eyes! They were actually accepted into the same school. Yu Haozhou immediately snatched the hat off his head, slammed it onto his suitcase, and strode toward him.

Zhou Zizheng saw him, too.

His eyes were full of pleasant surprise, not fear, and he even opened his arms: “Good brother, come, let’s hug for our destiny.”

Yu Haozhou sneered: “Hug, is it?”

He grabbed one of Zhou Zizheng’s arms and performed a perfect over-the-shoulder throw. In a cloud of dust, Yu Haozhou sat on Zhou Zizheng’s waist, his eyes blazing red, and his hands clutching his neck, wanting to strangle him: “I’ll hug your grandpa!”

Zhou Zizheng still had the presence of mind to tease: “Hey, I don’t even know who my grandpa is.”

Yu Haozhou didn’t waste any more words and punched him directly. Zhou Zizheng didn’t move, enduring two punches to let him vent. With his mouth bruised, Zhou Zizheng grimaced: “Two punches is enough, right? You seemed to enjoy that kiss that night, too.”

He dared to bring that up! Yu Haozhou had almost softened, but his anger was reignited. He gritted his teeth and said: “No one dares to play games with me like that.”

Yu Haozhou got serious. Zhou Zizheng didn’t dare to hold back anymore, afraid of actually being beaten to death. The two immediately started wrestling at the school gate. It was the busiest time for the start of the semester. Many students came to watch and took photos. They became famous on the first day of freshman orientation, successfully letting many of their friends know that they couldn’t stand each other.

For four years in college, people absolutely dared not let the two of them appear at the same party.

Actually, after calming down that day, Yu Haozhou pondered over it. What angered him wasn’t Zhou Zizheng’s rogue-like kiss, but rather that after the kiss, there was no explanation, and he just left without saying goodbye.

If they hadn’t happened to meet again in college, that incident could have become a lifelong psychological shadow for Yu Haozhou. Even now, he still hadn’t figured out what Zhou Zizheng was thinking that night.

Be that as it may, it no longer mattered.

The two of them got their marriage license and got married. Yu Haozhou always said that Zhou Zizheng must have had a conspiracy in marrying him, but after so many years of getting along and understanding, he was well aware that while Zhou Zizheng occasionally acted like an idiot, he wouldn’t joke around with his own life.

It was just that he himself had always been unwilling to believe it. He didn’t believe Zhou Zizheng truly liked him. Yu Haozhou would rather believe that among many potential marriage alliances, Zhou Zizheng had chosen someone he was familiar with.

Yu Haozhou took to heart what Zhou Zizheng said tonight, but he wouldn’t forgive him so quickly. That kiss at the graduation party truly and honestly caused him great harm.

It got to the point where, for a while, when a man confessed to him, Yu Haozhou’s first reaction was whether this man also wanted to run off after acting like a rogue. Even when a woman confessed, Yu Haozhou felt that he would be the one to be played with.

It truly left a huge psychological shadow.

At the same time, on the other side, on a rural road at night, a low-key black sedan with a Jing City license plate was driving at a steady speed. Wu Yichen woke up from unconsciousness with a dull pain in the back of his head. He found that he was tied up and laid down on the back seat, and his mouth was even stuffed with a piece of rag, leaving him unable to speak, only able to make muffled ‘mmph-mmph’ sounds.

The man driving was wearing a mask. Hearing the movement behind him, he looked through the rearview mirror and warned abruptly, “Stop yelling. If you make any more noise, I’ll throw you into the mountains to feed the wolves.”

Wu Yichen dared not make a sound. The more he thought about it, the more scared he got, and two streams of clear tears flowed down his face.

If he had known his biological father’s family was this terrifying, he should have listened to his mother and shouldn’t have come. He regretted it.

Wu Yichen cursed Xu Yi in his heart. If it hadn’t been for getting money for his college tuition, he would never have shown his face to the Xie family in his life. Now, the money was on its way, but he didn’t know if his own life could be saved.

Xu Yi, you bastard! If I die, I won’t let you off even as a ghost, ahhhhh!
