HTLCCBFT Chapter 159

Has The Lord’s Career Chart Been Filled Today? – Chapter 159

After Ken gave this order, everyone froze and did not immediately follow his instructions.

“What are you all standing around for?”

Ken demanded angrily.

“Apologies, Mr. Spire,” one of the archers hesitated before mustering the courage to explain, “The distance is too great. It would be very difficult for us to hit the target.”

Whether by intention or coincidence, the figure Ken had firmly declared an “impostor” happened to be positioned at the far end of the moat bridge—precisely where they could hardly reach.

Ken was instantly rendered speechless.

Though he was burning with impatience, wishing he possessed masterful archery skills to personally eliminate the source of his endless troubles… After the archer clearly stated the difficulty, he quickly forced himself to calm down.

“Then hold your positions for now.”

With this hope dashed, his expression darkened, but he refused to be discouraged. On the contrary, his determination to eliminate the other party only grew stronger.

After pondering for a long while, he lowered his voice and asked, “Has Young Master Calward arrived? I need to speak with him.”

———

Meanwhile, Oliver—the source of Ken’s boundless vexation—was patiently strolling through the farmlands surrounding the town area, accompanied by the golden-haired deity and a group of guards.

“Dear Cat God,” Oliver murmured, his heart—that of a seasoned farmer who considered himself mature—nearly rekindled with passion just from gazing at the seemingly endless fields. “Gregor City truly lives up to its reputation as the largest city in the southern kingdom.”

Vast cultivated land, flat terrain, fertile soil, abundant water sources, readily accessible forest resources, superior geographical location, convenient transportation, and well-developed infrastructure built over generations at great cost…

And this was only after ordinary refinements of the era, with immense potential still untapped!

Although Oliver had passed through here on his way to the Laina territory, he had been in a dazed state of mind at the time and hadn’t yet begun farming himself. Naturally, he hadn’t appreciated the city’s richness from a farmer’s perspective.

Now, however, he could fully comprehend its beauty.

“No wonder the people here worship the Goddess Havest.”

Oliver could hardly tear his eyes away, sighing with genuine admiration.

The golden-haired deity watched the surrounding fields with a serious expression. Though completely unable to understand why Oliver was so excited, he pretended to comprehend perfectly.

But upon hearing Oliver mention the name of another deity, his heart stirred faintly, as if brushed by a feather… wherever the delicate down touched, it left him feeling slightly unsettled.

—You must demonstrate your omnipotence to the one you love.

“Whatever Oliver wishes,” he suddenly recalled the Goddess Havest’s reminder from before. After a brief silence, he solemnly promised Oliver, who had once again become immersed in the allure of the vast farmlands, “I can also bring abundant harvests to Oliver’s land.”

Though divine duties are distinct, divine power is shared.

Just like the time Oliver had asked Him to guide the souls of the afflicted and lead them to their final resting place—if Death God Deyth were to handle it, it clearly wouldn’t require so much time and divine power.

After all, with the guiding force of Divinity’s essence and the assistance of faith, the deity holding that divine office would always appear more adept.

But He didn’t mind the trouble at all.

As long as Oliver liked it, He would certainly do it.

He inquired politely, “May I do this, Oliver?”

Yet upon hearing His words, Oliver merely froze for a moment before revealing a gentle, radiant smile: “My dear Cat God, I deeply appreciate your generous intention. But as I’ve told you before, I’d prefer them to learn to be grateful for the occasional blessings from deities, rather than placing all their hopes solely on the generous alms of gods. Instead of greedily demanding, they should learn to be self-reliant, using the wisdom gained from books and the sweat of their own labor to reap bountiful harvests. Only then will the flowers bloom longer and more beautifully.”

Under normal circumstances, the golden-haired deity would have worn a somewhat puzzled expression, nodded slightly, and refrained from further questions.

This time, however, was different.

He tilted His head slightly and earnestly sought guidance: “Then is there anything… that I can do now to make Oliver happier?”

Oliver blinked in mild surprise.

Was the Cat God directly and simply asking him how to please him?

No.

He quickly corrected himself.

As a human, using the word “please” to describe a deity’s actions was rather presumptuous.

After a brief hesitation, he didn’t directly answer the question but instead asked with some amusement: “My dear deity, why have you suddenly become interested in such matters? As you can see, my life is quite prosperous. I have your cherished presence and the companionship of loyal knights like Fosse, and the people greatly support and adore me. If I were to have any desires, I would strive to gradually achieve them through my own abilities.”

Only Oliver knew this was partly true, yet not entirely the whole truth.

Given the era’s context, aside from some less pressing troubles, he lived far better than the vast majority of people and shouldn’t ask for more.

Yet even as a king, he still missed the conveniences of modern life: he believed that, from any modern person’s perspective, the wonderful achievements brought by centuries of technological development were absolutely unmatched by the extravagant lives of ancient nobility.

He had actually wondered.

If he were to make a wish to the Cat God, expressing his desire to return to the era that truly belonged to him, would the Cat God actually have the power to fulfill it?

But he had never truly asked.

First, he didn’t believe he could afford the price for such an important divine wish; second, he bore the trust and lives of too many people and couldn’t simply leave; third… he felt somewhat cowardly.

As long as he never asked, he wouldn’t receive a negative answer and could always cling to that sliver of hope.

Thinking of this, Oliver couldn’t help but glance at the Cat God, who was frowning slightly as if deep in thought.

He never knew whether it was mutual understanding or if even the other party, as a deity, didn’t fully comprehend… the strange game system on him.

Judging from the names and functions of certain items, as well as the ability to “recharge” through close contact with the Cat God, it was clear the Cat God could intervene to some extent.

But from his observations, it seemed limited to minor interventions.

Just as Oliver was letting his thoughts wander aimlessly, the Cat God, who had been silent for a while, suddenly spoke: “It’s different. This is a gift.”

He suddenly said.

After successfully drawing Oliver’s surprise, he felt a little nervous but continued along his train of thought, speaking slowly: “Like how Oliver treats Lucy – it’s not something that must be given, but she becomes very happy upon receiving it. After seeing her reaction, I particularly wanted to do the same for Oliver.”

“I still remember, when my consciousness was still trapped in that statue, I would be very happy every time I received flowers from Oliver.”

He gazed unblinkingly at Oliver, explaining with some clumsiness but utmost sincerity: “With every flower received, I would like Oliver a little more. Those flowers, I’ve carefully stored them all in the divine realm. I also really like when Oliver kisses my hand, my ears, my tail, my…”

Just as the blond lord, repeatedly reminded of the “rogue” behaviors he committed unknowingly, forced an awkward yet natural-looking smile at the corner of his mouth, the God of Wealth with pure eyes suddenly took his hand and kissed the back of it without warning.

“When I kiss Oliver like this,” he tilted his head, his eyes intently fixed on Oliver, clearly determined to get a definite answer from those beautiful azure eyes this time: “Oliver, will you be as happy as I am?”

Oliver opened his mouth but made no sound.

For some reason… when meeting those clear, pure golden pupils, his heart suddenly skipped a beat.

He certainly knew what answer the deity hoped for.

He could have easily offered some sweet, perfunctory words as before, like coaxing a naive little kitten.

“Lord Jin.”

Before the Duke could give a clear response, the butler – though unable to hear their conversation clearly but having witnessed the tall youth’s sudden frivolous gesture – almost couldn’t resist drawing his sword.

He closed his eyes, striving to suppress the impulse to chop off the arm of this youth who was usually quite honest and well-behaved (at least much better than Baron Arte) and clearly highly regarded by the young lord, reminding as calmly as possible: “Please mind your words and actions in front of His Highness.”

Yet even after hearing his murderous warning, the blond youth maintained a calm, harmless expression, as if he completely did not think his previous behavior was inappropriate.

He truly didn’t think there was any problem with what he had just done.

With Fosse’s interruption, Oliver managed to snap out of the indescribable atmosphere from before.

“Jin has always been like this. No need to be so tense, Fosse.”

He couldn’t help but chuckle softly as he comforted the butler with a few words, then rose slightly on his toes to lean close to the ear of the deity who stood considerably taller than him.

Facing the deity who stubbornly awaited his answer, he spoke with an almost involuntary impulse… voicing the fleeting thought that had crossed his mind and which he had firmly grasped.

“My dear God.”

The lord, with hair more radiant than sunlight and a face as pure and flawless as a true angel’s, smiled gently and said, “I don’t need you to fulfill any other wishes for me, nor do anything extraordinary. As long as you stay by my side throughout my life, accompanying me just as you are now, that would be the greatest gift to bring me joy.”

The golden-haired deity: “……”

He stood there dazed, as if struck by unexpected sweet words, momentarily at a complete loss for how to react.

Only his earlobes.

Oliver could clearly see those fair earlobes, like snow tinged by the glow of sunset, gradually blooming with a striking blush.

It was impossible to tell how much time had passed.

Under the watchful gaze of Fosse the butler nearby, he suddenly leaned down swiftly and planted a quick kiss at the corner of Oliver’s lips.
