Has The Lord’s Career Chart Been Filled Today? – Extra 4

Oliver had discovered not long ago: possessing seemingly boundless energy wasn’t necessarily entirely a good thing.

Especially when he had an equally energetic deity lover who was more than willing to stick to him every moment…

Being able to fall into forced sleep through the so-called system was actually an extremely convenient way to slack off.

—What a pity he hadn’t known to cherish it back then.

The god-king, strolling leisurely through the flower garden meticulously maintained by various flower deities—particularly the Rose Goddess Rose—while holding his cat-eared lover’s hand, couldn’t help but think this.

Of course, spending every day with his young lover was also blissful.

“The reason is actually quite simple,” the golden-haired god-king gently stroked the shy pink rose and explained softly: “I believe both the divine race and humanity need more stable sources of power.”

Unlike him, who was born from the World Source and shared power with the laws, other deities sprouted from the faith of intelligent lifeforms and strengthened themselves by absorbing the power of faith.

At first glance, the divine race—ageless, deathless, capable of maintaining great power and beautiful appearances, without even needing to fulfill the duties bestowed by their divinity—seemed absolutely superior to humanity.

Yet for some reason, apart from the god-king, no deity seemed to deeply consider this. The mere fact that with the disappearance of faith, the divine race’s power would weaken and they might even gradually be forced into slumber was enough proof: in reality, the divine race and other races were interdependent.

Moreover, the power of faith, symbolizing strength, was entirely a limited resource that could be seized among deities.

“The purer the faith, the more refined and powerful the divine power it can transform into. Yet the intelligent races capable of providing faith are only humanity and very few animals.” The god-king, using simple terms, looked with morning light reflected in his smiling blue eyes at the cat-eared God who seemed lost in thought: “My cat god, what do you think this means?”

Ambition, plunder, and desire were the lethal poison secretly bestowed by the laws upon deities… the only immortal race.

Deities wanting to grow stronger needed to seize more faith and beguile more followers. Doing so would inevitably reduce the power of faith available to other deities.

Other deities would either be forced into subsequent Divine Wars or completely give up, gradually losing all followers until finally falling into eternal slumber.

The golden-haired youth’s fluffy cat ears trembled frequently and subtly, clearly having given it some thought, before he said earnestly: “But we have Ollie.”

—The god-king, this unique existence, undoubtedly shattered that bottle of poison.

Possessing supreme source divine power, yet never gathering mortal faith to add flowers to brocade; compassionate and benevolent, pitying weaker deities, even generously sharing his own divine power to allow frail divine races to continue existing; he was even madly loved and worshipped by all deities, making “gaining His Majesty the god-king’s favor” far more tempting than the wish to “become second only to His Majesty in divine power.”

What the laws of the universe never anticipated was that these inherently arrogant deities, rather than competing for more followers in the mortal realm, were far more engrossed in the covert power struggles within the God-King’s divine temple—and in the eternal question of “how to make our beautiful Majesty glance my way just once more.” Even deities with intensely combative divine natures, led by Vor, the God of War, would restrain themselves for fear of displeasing His Majesty, unwilling to commit any act that might upset him.

“Well, though it’s somewhat embarrassing to admit, that was roughly the case in the past.” The God-King smiled faintly. “But I don’t believe the status quo can be maintained indefinitely.”

The innate desire for conflict could be temporarily suppressed, but never eradicated.

Just as Sunn, the God of Light, and Vor, the God of War, had always been as incompatible as fire and water, and Plage, the God of Plague, remained perpetually at odds with Helf, the God of Health—it was only a matter of time before the long-simmering cauldron of oil would boil over and splatter violently.

“Moreover, the wiser and more powerful humans become, the less willing they are to sincerely worship deities.”

Take the great nobles in the royal capital, for instance. Even if they spend fortunes building magnificent divine temples, offer extravagant sacrifices, and even develop ‘holy scriptures’ unheard of among deities themselves—none of this proves their genuine devotion.

The higher their noble rank, the more they treat faith merely as a tool to win hearts and control their subjects.

And the Priests, viewed by common folk as sacred and devout, have long been colluding with the nobility. Beneath their pristine white robes seem to crawl nauseating swarms of lice.

Oliver remarked, “They will increasingly rely on their own power.”

This meant that to obtain purer power of faith, deities would eventually have to curb human development and suppress the dawn of enlightenment—the second deadly poison laid down by universal laws to counter the deities’ immortality.

The Cat-eared God’s expression gradually grew solemn, his gaze toward the God-King tinged with concern.

“Ollie.”

He whispered softly.

“That’s all in the past now.” Oliver smiled warmly, affectionately stroking those pretty little pointed ears as he continued, “It was precisely to find a permanent way to balance these contradictions that I… well, somewhat overambitiously forced my divine power to extend into other worlds.”

Even for His Majesty the God-King—who appeared flawlessly powerful and beautiful in the eyes of all deities—this was an immensely draining endeavor.

He couldn’t even recall how many worlds he had explored or how much time he had spent before finding the most unique one.

—A world where no deities existed, only human technology developed to its absolute peak.

Yet its condition appeared dire: devoid of divine constraints, humanity recklessly exhausted all resources until the world rapidly hurtled toward destruction through resource depletion and the extinction of all other lifeforms.

“As I delved deeper, I discovered that world’s deities had dissipated long ago.” At this point, Oliver gave a slightly embarrassed cough, calmly glossing over the circumstances of that time: “So when everything was on the verge of collapse and dissipation, that world’s laws instinctively ‘seized hold of my divine sense.’”

He undoubtedly paid the price for his overconfidence: when witnessing that world on the brink of decay and its laws desperately pleading with him, he was moved by compassion. He sealed the core power of his divinity and allowed the other to absorb his outwardly dispersed divine power.

Alright.

Oliver admitted inwardly that perhaps it was because the laws of his own world were always rigid and cold… Thus, when he encountered laws that tearfully called him “Father” for the first time, he felt a sense of novelty.

And so, he paid the price for his carelessness.

What he thought was merely temporarily nurturing a dying child nearly ended with all his outwardly dispersed divine power and memories being drained dry by that reckless world’s laws.

Realizing it had gone too far, the laws understood the severity of the situation. After recovering its breath, it left him—who had sealed his core divine power and temporarily lost his memories—in that world. Only when his depleted divine power gradually recovered through nurturing did it cautiously send him back.

“Both the god race and humanity require constraints,” Oliver said with a smile. “Humanity is undoubtedly constrained by the god race, limited by the quantity and quality of resources… As for the god race, aside from the power of faith, they are also constrained by the laws and by me.”

In that world where the god race had once fallen into slumber, the laws obtained the crucial thread of vitality from him and successfully awakened them.

Facing the despair of an apocalyptic era, humanity deeply realized the irreversible consequences of their arrogance and pride. Increasingly, people in desperate situations placed their hopes in seemingly elusive faith.

The worst had passed, and everything entered a new cycle.

“My power, along with that of the laws, is tied to the stable operation of the entire world. As long as the world endures, I endure.

Even if he fails to control the conflicts among the god race in the future, leading the world to the day it must restart its cycle, as long as he exists, he will protect the world from destruction.

He confirmed that he was the most crucial link.

Seeing his lover’s expression shift from thoughtful to bewildered, Oliver couldn’t help but laugh. “However, these are not things my dear cat god needs to worry about—”

“Ollie.”

Noticing a detail deliberately concealed by the cunning god-king, the Cat-eared God’s ears flattened alertly, his deep golden pupils slowly narrowing into slits.

“Ollie!” He stared intently at the innocent-looking god-king, earnestly confirming what concerned him most. “Helped, other worlds’, god race?”

The golden-haired god-king paused briefly, his expression calm. “Hmm.”

The Cat-eared God paused, his tone firm. “They, surely, also like Ollie. Will they come looking for Ollie in the future?”

The dazzlingly beautiful god-king smiled slightly, though a flicker of guilt quickly passed through his sapphire-like eyes. “……Perhaps.”

If he had only partially recovered his memories and couldn’t recall the details of the past, he would have been able to deny this outright.

But as all his memories gradually returned… thinking about the deities who might come to this world for a “visit” in the future, he had no choice but to admit it to his perceptive lover.

The God of Wealth’s fluffy tail began swishing restlessly from side to side.

“Ollie.”

He suddenly whispered very softly: “Does that other God of Wealth… have ears and a tail that Ollie likes?”

“That question?”

The god-king blinked in slight surprise, then seemed to fall into serious recollection.

Meanwhile, the Cat-eared God waiting for an answer had his tail swishing with increasing urgency.

Until he clearly heard the god-king’s amused answer.

“I’m quite certain, there aren’t any.” The cunning and beautiful god-king said with a smiling expression: “And although I’ve had some clever, adorable little cats before, there’s only one cat god lover who could make me fall in love.”

The Cat-eared God’s tail finally stopped swishing.

Perhaps suddenly feeling greatly threatened, the still somewhat uneasy God of Wealth couldn’t help but seriously emphasize: “I want to be with Ollie forever.”

“Certainly.”

Suppressing his laughter, the god-king gently pressed a kiss to his jealous lover’s lips—the lover whose tail was still held high—and said tenderly: “My only deity.”
