I Woke Up and Got Married Chapter 56

Chapter 56

Lu Zhiyue gently wrapped his arm around Chi Suinian, who was trying to retreat, lowered his head, and pressed a kiss to the corner of his lips. Then he held the back of his head and deepened the kiss, his breath hot.

“Dates,” he murmured against his lips, “are supposed to end with a kiss.”

The theater was dim, only the flickering light from the screen illuminating their faces. Chi Suinian felt a little dizzy, his heartbeat irregular.

The few times he and Lu Zhiyue had kissed before were all when neither of them had been completely sober, so he never knew — kissing could actually feel this good.

He had no experience, his mind foggy, body leaning forward stiffly while Lu Zhiyue’s lips brushed his again and again — quiet, yet fervent.

Until a warm, wet touch brushed across his lips. Lu Zhiyue’s tongue teased lightly, coaxing him to open his mouth.

When Lu Zhiyue’s tongue slipped in, Chi Suinian tensed for a second — then his mind exploded like fireworks.

He didn’t know how long the kiss lasted, until voices from the front row broke the silence.

Lu Heng: “Damn, why’s the zombie king so weak? Is that it?”

Tang Jin mumbled through what sounded like a mouthful of food, “No way it’s that easy. The zombie has infinite lives, can’t die — bet it’s gonna resurrect in a sec and scare the hell out of that water monster.”

Lu Heng: “What the hell are you eating? It’s so loud, can’t you chew quietly?”

Tang Jin: “And you eat popcorn quietly, huh?”

Lu Heng: “When did you even buy that? There was a huge line at the counter — did you rob someone?”

Tang Jin: “…Can’t I just pay extra to skip the line? With your IQ, even that water monster’s smarter. Go on, watch your big scary monster and stop bothering me.”

Lu Heng: “…Whatever.”

Hearing their voices drift back and forth, Chi Suinian’s heart jumped — he instinctively wanted to pull away. But the hand on the back of his head pressed him back down again.

“…?”

Chi Suinian patted Lu Zhiyue’s chest, signaling that was enough.

But instead of stopping, Lu Zhiyue’s kiss suddenly turned fierce. The gentleness from earlier vanished — his kisses grew deep and overwhelming. Chi Suinian’s head tilted back again and again, only to be caught and pulled back each time. His breathing grew ragged, until tears welled at the corners of his eyes from the sheer lack of air.

Only after what felt like forever did Lu Zhiyue finally ease up and release him.

But when their eyes met — Chi Suinian’s lashes were wet, his eyes red, his lips swollen and glistening — Lu Zhiyue’s throat bobbed. He bent down again and placed a soft kiss on those trembling lips.

“Sorry,” he whispered, voice rough. “I might’ve gone a bit too long.”

“…”

A bit?

Sometimes Chi Suinian really thought this man might eat him alive one day.

He pushed Lu Zhiyue away, panting, lips hot and stinging. He scooted as far away as he could, glaring daggers.

The familiar cold pine scent crept closer. Lu Zhiyue’s voice was low: “Are you mad?”

“Don’t come near me.” Chi Suinian couldn’t even be bothered to look at him.

“Sorry.”

“…Get away!”

If he were truly angry, he’d have already exploded by now.

The theater lights stayed off, and in the darkness, Lu Zhiyue found his hand — squeezing it softly, apologetically.

“You know I really like you,” he murmured. “I’ve waited for years. Finally having you here… I got a little carried away. Forgive me.”

“…”

Carried away? You nearly ate me alive.

Chi Suinian’s head felt fuzzy again. His palm was trapped in Lu Zhiyue’s warm grasp. “…You still can’t kiss that hard,” he muttered.

“Alright. I’ll be gentler.”

“?”

Chi Suinian turned toward him. “What do you—”

Before he could finish, the pine scent washed over him again. Lu Zhiyue cupped his chin and kissed him, feather-light this time, brushing softly against his lips.

When he finally let go, he asked seriously, “Was that better?”

“…”

Better, my ass.

Breathing uneven, Chi Suinian shot him a sideways glance. “Lu Zhiyue.”

Lu Zhiyue pressed his forehead to his and hummed softly, “Mm?”

“Next time you drink coffee, don’t kiss me after. It tastes bitter as hell.”

Lu Zhiyue’s lips curved, mood instantly bright. Oh? So there’ll be a next time.

“Alright,” he agreed.

Then, with a grin that begged for a beating, he leaned in to kiss him again and whispered, “But your milk tea’s pretty sweet.”

“…”

They were supposed to be watching a movie, but by the time it ended, Chi Suinian couldn’t recall a single scene — only how Lu Zhiyue had kissed him breathless in his seat.

When the lights came on, Tang Jin and Lu Heng stretched in satisfaction.

“Damn, that was a good movie. Can’t believe the theater was this empty.”

Tang Jin sighed. “Now I get why we got rejected by those girls. Shouldn’t’ve listened to you and picked this movie.”

“What’s wrong with it? I thought it was great,” Lu Heng said, turning to the back row. “Right, Suinian? You were watching real close, weren’t you?”

Tang Jin also turned to look.

Just then, the overhead lights flared. Chi Suinian squinted uncomfortably — and both of them froze.

Their gazes dropped to where his hand was still intertwined with Lu Zhiyue’s.

What the hell?

Following their line of sight, Chi Suinian realized it too. He yanked his hand free instantly. “What are you staring at?”

“Uh…” Lu Heng rubbed his nose awkwardly. “Nothing. Didn’t see a thing.”

“…”

Tang Jin, more observant, picked up on the atmosphere between them. He patted Lu Heng’s shoulder, trying to drag him out. “Let’s go.”

Lu Heng blinked. “Why? We’ve got nothing else tonight. Suinian, wanna grab dinner with us?”

Tang Jin: “…”

Can’t you tell they’re dying for us to leave?

“My hotpot place just opened downstairs,” Lu Heng continued cheerfully. “Come try it. I’ll get the manager to give us a private room.”

He looked up — and froze.

“Suinian, what happened to your mouth? It’s swollen — got a canker sore? I’ve got medicine for that. The weather’s been so hot lately—”

Tang Jin buried his face in his hand. This idiot.

Then Lu Heng finally realized. His movements stiffened.

Oh shit.

Oh shit, oh shit.

Was it what he thought it was?

He slowly lifted his head — only to meet Chi Suinian’s icy glare head-on.

“…F*ck. It’s real?!”

“Cough.” Lu Heng choked, quickly adjusting his shoulder bag and inching toward the exit of the theater. “Uh, I just remembered I forgot to lock my car. You guys… haha, you guys carry on. I’ll, uh, head out first.”

Tang Jin: “……”

That idiot just bailed after making a fool of himself—did he not think about my situation at all?!

“Then I’m leaving too.” Tang Jin said awkwardly and hurried off as well.

Chi Suinian didn’t say a word as he walked out.

The next theater’s movie had also just ended—it seemed to be a romance film. Young couples streamed out, filling the hallway until it was crowded.

“Baby, don’t be mad, okay? I won’t do it again.” A guy was apologizing softly to his girlfriend in the crowd.

Her cheeks flushed red as she scolded him, “Why did you kiss me in there? There are surveillance cameras in the theater! What if someone saw us…”

“They won’t. No one’s that bored.”

Chi Suinian froze mid-step.

There are cameras in the theater?

Which genius came up with that idea?

The girl still looked uneasy, so the guy hurried to reassure her, “Don’t worry, there were plenty of people there. We’re definitely not the only ones who fooled around. Even if someone was watching the footage, they wouldn’t necessarily see us.”

The girl said hesitantly, “…Really?”

“Of course!”

“……”

Chi Suinian lowered his head and quickened his pace.

Passing by a shiny advertisement board, he caught his reflection in the mirror-like glass.

His lips were swollen and still damp—it was obvious what he’d just been doing inside.

“……”

All. Lu. Zhiyue’s. Fault.

Only after leaving the cinema complex did Chi Suinian finally dare lift his head. His lips were still hot, so he bought a mask and put it on.

Lu Zhiyue turned his head slightly and couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle.

Chi Suinian shot him a look. “What are you laughing at?”

“Nothing. You look handsome even with the mask on.”

“This needs you to tell me?” Chi Suinian snapped.

By the time the movie was over, the sky was completely dark. Neon lights painted the long street in color. Chi Suinian stared at Lu Zhiyue for a while, frowning.

They’d kissed for so long—

How come his lips weren’t swollen?

Why was he the only one who looked so miserable?

His expression shifted from surprise to annoyance. He tugged on Lu Zhiyue’s clothes. “Come here.”

Lu Zhiyue obediently stepped closer.

Chi Suinian tilted his head up and realized the guy was annoyingly tall, so he kicked his shoe lightly. “Bend down.”

Lu Zhiyue raised a brow. “Here? In public?”

There were people everywhere on the street. Was the young master not embarrassed?

“……” Chi Suinian rolled his eyes. “Can you think about anything other than that for once?”

Realizing he’d misunderstood, Lu Zhiyue leaned down.

Then his face was cupped, and Chi Suinian used both thumbs to press and rub his lips firmly—but not too harshly.

“……”

When he was done venting, Lu Zhiyue straightened up again. His lips tingled and felt hot; he didn’t need a mirror to know they were red now.

“Happy?”

“Barely.” Chi Suinian muttered, retracting his hand.

“Then get in the car.” Lu Zhiyue opened the door.

Chi Suinian was just about to get in when a voice called from behind him—

“Suinian?”

The moment he heard that voice, Chi Suinian froze.

Standing not far away under a tree was Chi Kaidong, his arm linked with a young, beautiful woman in a blazing red dress—strikingly seductive.

Chi Suinian instantly grabbed Lu Zhiyue’s hand. “Get in the car.”

Don’t come out.

He pulled hard, but Lu Zhiyue didn’t budge.

“I’ll stay with you.” Lu Zhiyue’s hand tightened around his, his touch steady and warm—like calming a frightened animal.

The warmth of his palm gave him a sense of security.

Chi Suinian stiffened only for a moment before he loosened up again. Leaning lazily against the car, he stared at Chi Kaidong, his eyes cold. “What do you want?”

Chi Kaidong smiled pleasantly. “Nothing, really. Just haven’t seen you these past few days and got worried. You’re not sick, are you?”

The woman beside him looked at Chi Suinian curiously. “This is your son?”

“Mhm. Handsome, right? He takes after me—been good-looking since he was little.” Chi Kaidong chuckled.

The woman nodded, just about to say something, when her gaze caught the sight of the two men’s clasped hands. Her expression froze. “President Lu?”

Chi Kaidong blinked. “President Lu?”

She frowned slightly. “You don’t know? This is President Lu of the Lu Group. The company’s been expanding rapidly these past two years, both domestically and internationally. He’s a major figure in Jin City. You really didn’t know?”

Chi Kaidong’s brows furrowed. He’d been abroad for years and had only recently returned—no wonder he wasn’t up to date on the domestic market.

When he saw Lu Zhiyue earlier, he’d assumed the man was just one of Chi Suinian’s shady rich friends. Who would’ve thought he was someone this powerful?

The woman beside him wasn’t just for show—she was someone he’d carefully chosen, with status and money, and he’d been hoping to make her his future wife. For someone like her to act so respectful meant Lu Zhiyue’s identity carried real weight.

“President Lu.” Chi Kaidong immediately put on a warm smile. “I’m Chi Kaidong, Suinian’s father. A pleasure to meet you.”

He extended his hand.

Lu Zhiyue didn’t even glance at it. Instead, he looked over at Chi Suinian. “Funny—I don’t recall you ever mentioning you had a father.”

Chi Suinian froze for half a second before realizing Lu Zhiyue was helping him out. He sneered. “I grew up without one. Don’t know him.”

Then he turned to the woman in the red dress. “Miss, there are plenty of scammers pretending to be rich these days just to seduce women. Keep your eyes open, don’t get fooled.”

The woman—already nearly forty—was secretly delighted to be called miss by such a handsome young man. Without missing a beat, she casually withdrew her arm from Chi Kaidong’s.

Chi Kaidong’s face darkened. “Chi Suinian, what’s that supposed to mean? You’re cutting ties with me now? Don’t forget, Chi Hao still has my shares!”

“You mean that 7%?”

Chi Suinian had already looked into the share distribution. Though Chi Mingyao was an idiot, he wasn’t dumb enough to hand over the entire company to his long-lost brother. He’d only given him a temporary authorization letter—the majority of control was still in his own hands.

Chi Suinian’s lips curved in mockery. “It’s just 7% leaking out. I’ll treat it as feeding a stray dog.”

“You—!”

The woman’s eyes widened. “Seven percent? You told me you were the majority shareholder! You lied to me?”

“Qingzhi, listen to me—”

“Save it. Don’t ever contact me again.” The woman shook off his hand and stormed off, fuming.

Chi Kaidong hurried after her. “Qingzhi, wait! This is all a misunderstanding—”

Their figures disappeared into the distance.

Lu Zhiyue noticed Chi Suinian still had that icy expression, so he ruffled his hair. “Come on, let’s go watch the sunrise.”

Chi Suinian snapped back to himself, scowling. “Who told you to touch my head? And sunrise? How tacky can you get?”

But even as he complained, he bent down and got into the car.

Lu Zhiyue shut the door, his warm smile fading as he looked at Chi Kaidong’s retreating figure. Only after a long moment did he circle around and get into the driver’s seat.

Chi Kaidong chased the woman all the way to the intersection, trying every sweet word he could think of. But she was unmoved—she got into her car and drove off without looking back.

Chi Kaidong stood alone in the middle of the busy intersection, his face growing darker and darker.

“Chi Suinian… why do you always have to ruin everything for me?”
