MASG chapter 169: Extra 9

Coming-of-Age Ceremony (5)

◎ The black siren was sent flying once again, spinning nonstop in the sea. ◎

Seawater slid across the mermaid’s scales as Mo An swept his tail, sending the black siren flying more than ten meters away.

What kind of strange creature was this, trying to assassinate him and copying the way he talked? Even though Mo An had half black-siren blood, he could not tolerate it. The strike was powerful; the black siren rolled in the water like an unbalanced devil ray.

But once he regained his balance, he immediately charged at Mo An again, his eyeballs red like dripping blood.

“You!” he said viciously.

“What about me!” Mo An answered just as viciously.

“Aren’t you just relying on your physical advantage to bully me? You’ve grown up, so why are you still occupying Xi Ban!?” The black siren circled Mo An nonstop, wanting to attack yet wary of his strength. “Xi Ban said there’s a special male siren on land who needs taking care of, so he can’t return to the sea. It’s you! It’s you!”

The moment the words ended, Mo An swept another tail strike over.

“Yes! It’s me!”

The black siren was sent flying once again, spinning nonstop in the sea.

“With only this much ability, you still want to kill me? Wait until you’re fully grown.” Mo An didn’t care and turned around, diving deeper into the sea. But how did this black siren know Xi Ban? Did they know each other?

Just as this thought crossed his mind, the movement of the seawater made Mo An alert again. In the corner of his eye, the black siren, not yet fully formed, attacked tirelessly once more. But this time, Mo An did not strike back.

He only shifted his direction slightly as the black siren brushed past him. Its sharp horn scraped across his cheekbone, leaving a clear wound.

The siren had an extremely fast visual capture speed. In that instant, Mo An noticed that there was still no red powder on the horn, unlike Aituoda and Aibaoyin, whose horns had been rubbed against iron ore.

Pain stimulated Mo An’s blood vessels and activated his violent tendencies. This time he did not leave any room at all, his fish tail striking with full force like a whip impossible to ignore. The tail fin and dorsal fin slid across the black siren’s arm and tail, leaving obvious wounds. Even the water current became Mo An’s weapon.

“Ah!” The black siren cried out once before fainting completely in the water.

“So weak from a hit.” Mo An had not intended to knock him unconscious; he had only wanted to teach him a lesson. Great. Now, there was no time to look for gems for the coming-of-age ceremony. He even had to bring the problematic black siren ashore. He could not just let him float there.

There were many fierce fish in the waters around A Port, and Mo An did not want the black siren to become live bait.

“Sigh. Having a coming-of-age ceremony is really hard.” Mo An grabbed the black siren’s horn with his right hand and gently swung his fishtail.

On shore, Mi Dou sat in a chair, observing the sea, but his thoughts were elsewhere. A tall figure was approaching. Mi Dou both wanted to quickly see Boden embarrass himself and feared he would notice something suspicious.

“Hello, little bear.” Boden smiled as he spoke, looking at the water bottle beside the chair. He asked with obvious intent, “Hm? Isn’t this my water bottle? Taken down from the airplane?”

“Just took it conveniently.” Mi Dou’s palms were sweaty from nervousness; even the pads were glossy. “Are you thirsty? If you are, you can quickly drink some water. The sea wind here is strong. After a while of blowing, it’s easy to get thirsty.”

Boden followed his words: “Then I’ll reluctantly take a sip.”

Mi Dou stared straight ahead. “Mm, drink quickly.”

The silver water bottle was like a shell, its streamlined bottle body full of fingerprints, impossible to tell who had touched it. Mi Dou faced the sea, but his peripheral vision followed Boden’s every move. His heartbeat sped up and slowed down with them. Yes, yes, yes! Open it and drink! One mouthful, half the bottle! Don’t hesitate! Drink yourself to death!

Boden raised his hand, bringing the bottle mouth closer and closer to his lips.

Success! Almost success! Mi Dou suppressed his wild joy, otherwise he would have jumped for joy. But Boden’s movement paused immediately, like a cold bucket of water had been poured over him from head to toe.

“Hm, this water smells a little off.” First, Boden looked at the transparent liquid, then took in all of Mi Dou’s little movements.

“What could be wrong? This is Qingyao City water. You just came here; you’re not used to it.” Mi Dou did not dare urge him too obviously. “Drink, drink.”

“Then I’ll drink it all.” Boden smiled, swirled the bottle like a wine glass, and lifted his head to drink it all in one go. With a quick movement of his throat, every drop of the liquid went down. Mi Dou widened his eyes, waiting for his reaction.

That was strong liquor! Just smelling it had choked him badly! How could someone drink it like water?

“You…you drank all of it?” Mi Dou asked involuntarily.

“Mm, tastes pretty good.” Boden smiled and shook the bottle like a wine glass. “Only… which little bear put alcohol in my water? That’s not okay.”

His bear ears trembled as Mi Dou asked tremblingly, “How is that not good?”

“When I drink alcohol, my bear nature goes wild, and I do dangerous, evil things.” Boden smiled as he approached him. “If you don’t run now, in a moment, I’m going to…”

“Ah…don’t come over here!” Mi Dou jumped sideways and ran left at full speed. He had only wanted to prank Boden once, but how had it become the opposite?

Coincidentally, ripples rose on the surface of the water. The familiar male siren lifted a wave and leaped out of the sea.

At just the right moment, Mo An leapt onto the reef path and blocked Mi Dou’s way. “Why are you running? What happened? Is it Xia Yu…”

“Boden is about to go into full bear mode! Once he drinks, he wants to…” Mi Dou waved his hands around to demonstrate, then suddenly got stuck pointing at Mo An’s hand. “You…who are you carrying? How are you carrying a mermaid? Who is this?”

“Oh, this? I don’t know either.” Mo An shrugged and loosened his grip. The black siren’s not-yet-fully-grown horn slipped out of his palm. “Xi Ban! There’s a fish looking for you!”

Xi Ban, standing on the lighthouse balcony, looked over when he heard that. “What happened? Who?”

“A black siren! He tried to kill me! He’s so strong! I’m injured, too!” Mo An pointed at his bleeding cheek and shouted loudly on purpose.

So another person appeared on the lighthouse balcony. Xia Yu ran out, half his body leaning over the railing. “Who?”

More than ten minutes later, the group sat at the entrance of the lighthouse with an electronic bonfire lit in front of them. Xia Yu looked worried as he took a glass bottle from Xiaoxiao. “Don’t move. I’ll put medicine on it for you.”

“Hiss…” Mo An sucked in a breath of cold air and moved back slightly, as if the medicine were pepper spray deadly to mermaids. “Will this medicine hurt a lot?”

Seeing through all his little tricks at a glance, Xiaoxiao handed over another bottle and said coldly, “Hurry and put medicine on it. If you wait any longer, your wound will almost heal.”

Mo An looked at Xiaoxiao. It seemed that pretending to be pitiful only worked on Xia Yu. As for Xia Yu, he knew in his heart that Mo An was pretending, too. He had raised this mermaid himself; how could he not know? In the sea, not even another siren could necessarily leave a wound on Mo An’s face, let alone one black siren.

There was only one answer. Mo An did it on purpose. But no matter what, the pale blue wound was truly bleeding, and Xia Yu not feeling pain himself didn’t mean he didn’t understand it, so he was especially careful when applying the medicine. “Bear with it…”

The icy red medicine touched Mo An’s skin. Not only did he pretend it hurt, he also glared sideways at the still-unconscious assassin: “He’s the one who wanted to kill me. It’s so strange. I clearly don’t know him. Xi Ban, you know him, right?”

Xi Ban was applying medicine to the black siren’s face, displaying a helplessness unlike anything seen before. The mermaid lying across his lap had already turned human. Whether by appearance or build, he was only on the verge of adulthood. His arms and legs, however, were no match for a siren’s attack, and fine little cuts were hidden everywhere.

“I know him. His name is A’Dairi, a black siren from the other side of Earth.” Xi Ban stroked A’Dairi’s head. “He’s grown so fast. Even the horn on his head has come out.”

“A’Dairi? His adult name is Dairi? Such a special name, but very nice.” Xia Yu thought for a moment. “Is this the mermaid you met while you were recovering? My god, he followed your trail, crossing half the globe?”

Xi Ban nodded and slowly explained, “In that shipwreck, we lost an incubation ground. My original plan was to live and die with the fish eggs there to protect the last of them. But my plan was disrupted—there was a massive earthquake under the sea.”

“I was shaken all the way into the Black Sirens’ tribe.” Mo An seized the chance to complain to Xia Yu.

“Our death vortex was shattered, too. I was seriously injured and swept away by the current to a depth of 3,000 meters. I had no awareness at all. When I opened my eyes again, more than a month had passed and I was somewhere I had never been before.” Xi Ban rubbed his ear. His soft, luxurious ear fin had broken off that very day. “I drifted to a strange incubation ground. There were my own kind there, as well as some children who had not yet grown up. A’Dairi was one of them.”

“Then why did he want to kill me? It wasn’t me who shook you away.” Mo An did not understand.

At this point, Xi Ban also felt sorry for A’Dairi. “When my body recovered, Meng Qingqing’s sisters found me. I knew the time had come. The days at the incubation ground were only a brief rest. I had to go ashore to help you. A’Dairi didn’t want me to leave, so I told him that there was a male siren on shore who needed my help…”

Xia Yu listened in confusion. “Just that?”

Xi Ban smiled guiltily. “I also said that after helping Mo An, I would go back to find him. By then, A’Dairi would have become Dairi, and that would be the day I returned.”

“Oh, I get it.” Lao Gui looked like someone who had been through it before. “Isn’t that just deceiving him?”

“I didn’t deceive him. Mo An and Xia Yu still need help. I can’t just leave. I thought that after six months, I would go back and check on them. I didn’t expect him to actually swim this far, avoid Leviathan’s pursuit, and come to Qingyao City to find me.” Xi Ban didn’t dare imagine the dangers he faced along the way, and his heart softened again and again.

At that moment, Mo An casually covered the back of Xia Yu’s hand with his own and muttered, “Yeah, Leviathan is so fierce and scary. Look at all these scars on my body.”

Here he goes again. Xia Xiaoxiao furrowed her brow, afraid her eye roll would be too obvious.

At that moment, A’Dairi’s eyelashes trembled and he quickly woke up. He looked around at everyone first, then threw himself accurately at Xi Ban, crashing aggrievedly into his arms. “Why haven’t you come back yet? You broke your word! You’re not a good double-tail anymore!”

[Author’s Note]

Mo An: Knocking away one black siren—easy as turning over a hand.

Xi Ban: Screamed.
