GV – Chapter 45

Cautiousness and Wishful Thinking

There is a big difference between liking someone knowingly and liking them unknowingly. For Song Zhiqing, if she had previously felt only annoyance and disdain when shooing away those who pursued Ye Yuhuan, now, seeing those foolish high school students who swore to love Ye Yuhuan for a lifetime without even knowing her, she felt nothing but a bellyful of rage waiting to be unleashed.

Love, love, love, love my foot! You all hang the word ‘love’ on your lips every day, but you have no idea that some people are worried that just telling the person they like that they’re over their last crush will make her think they’re not devoted enough.

It’s super annoying in every way!

Even more annoying was that among these love-professing maniacs, Chi Yuan was an absolute prime example.

Xiang Wanyu’s warning had probably made Chi Yuan quiet down for a while, but just half a month later, the familiar roses started appearing on Ye Yuhuan’s desk again. A large, tacky bouquet of 99 roses, complete with dewdrops and a love letter inside.

When Song Zhiqing saw that bouquet, she really wanted to make Chi Yuan eat those roses, stems and all. Perhaps it could save his good-for-nothing brain.

How many times had she told Chi Yuan that Ye Yuhuan didn’t like him and found him disruptive? Why did this person always act as if he couldn’t hear?

She really wished she could give him half of her own cautiousness.

Song Zhiqing grabbed the flowers and stormed towards Chi Yuan’s classroom. Ye Yuhuan didn’t even have time to stop her. She glanced at the time; it wasn’t long before class started. She could only inform the class president before heading out to bring her back.

Chi Yuan was in the tenth grade, and their building wasn’t far. However, Ye Yuhuan didn’t know which classroom was his. She thought of calling Song Zhiqing but suddenly remembered that she had left in such a hurry that she hadn’t taken her phone.

As for asking someone else, Ye Yuhuan thought about it and decided it was too much trouble. Besides, she wasn’t that eager to see Chi Yuan anyway.

Every time he ran into her, he would spout a bunch of bewildering nonsense. Ye Yuhuan found him even more annoying than his mother.

Song Zhiqing aggressively dragged Chi Yuan out of his seat and threw the roses back at him, her delicate features filled with unconcealed anger. “Didn’t I tell you to stay away from Ye Yuhuan?”

Chi Yuan raised an eyebrow, glancing at his somewhat worked-up childhood friend. Then he looked down, nonchalantly fiddling with the rose petals. He was indeed handsome, and this gesture added a touch of roguish charm rather than just seeming frivolous. However, the words he spoke still had the tone of a dead pig unafraid of boiling water. “I’m pursuing Ye Yuhuan. It has nothing to do with you. You’re my friend; it’s one thing not to help me, but you keep tripping me up every day. Song Zhiqing, that’s a bit unfair, don’t you think?”

Song Zhiqing crossed her arms and snorted coldly. “Ye Yuhuan doesn’t like you at all. Why do you keep pestering her? And you haven’t even apologized to her for what your mom did. I can’t believe you still have the nerve to pursue her.”

“Oh,” Chi Yuan said with a sudden realization. “You’re right. I should go apologize. And while I’m at it, I can ask her out for a meal.”

Seeing his flippant, smiling face infuriated Song Zhiqing. She frowned. “Is that the point? The point is that Ye Yuhuan doesn’t like you at all, okay!”

“Ah, I see.” Chi Yuan nodded, still unable to be serious. He teased, “But what does Ye Yuhuan’s liking me or not have to do with you? Don’t you think you’re overstepping a bit, Song Zhiqing?”

“Besides, it’s precisely because she doesn’t like me that I have to pursue her. If I keep at it, she’ll eventually fall for me.”

Chi Yuan had an ample, or rather, excessive, awareness of his own charm. In his world, people might temporarily dislike him, but no one could dislike him forever.

This narcissist, Song Zhiqing gritted her teeth inwardly.

But it seemed what he said wasn’t entirely wrong. Why should she, Song Zhiqing, be the one to judge how people pursue others?

Just as Song Zhiqing was reflecting on her actions, Chi Yuan flicked his bangs and chuckled softly. “Besides, you don’t know if Ye Yuhuan dislikes me or not. Maybe she’s just playing hard to get. If you make a scene like this, you might ruin our chances, you know, Song Zhiqing.”

How could such a shameless person exist in the world?

Song Zhiqing’s face was filled with shock, just as it had been that night when she was shocked by Xiang Wanyu’s snobbery.

Her face immediately turned cold. “When I tell you to get lost, you get lost. If you keep being so delusional, don’t blame me for not being polite. You remember, right? You’ve never once beaten me in a fight.”

Playing hard to get? Him? Was he even worthy?

Chi Yuan stared dumbfounded at Song Zhiqing’s retreating back, then muttered under his breath, “What a damn psycho.”

Downstairs, two minutes later, Ye Yuhuan was met by a weary-looking Song Zhiqing. She suddenly felt a pang of regret; she should have gone up to see what happened.

The moment Song Zhiqing saw Ye Yuhuan, her anger subsided, leaving only disappointment and grievance welling up. She looked up, held out her hands, and pouted, “Hug.”

Ye Yuhuan gathered her into her arms.

After about thirty seconds, Ye Yuhuan said softly, “Class is about to start.”

Song Zhiqing looked up and shot her a glare but said nothing.

So Ye Yuhuan also fell silent.

After three minutes, Ye Yuhuan looked down and asked, “Are you really that angry?”

Actually, Song Zhiqing wasn’t feeling so bad anymore. Being hugged by Ye Yuhuan was so comfortable. To squeeze out a little more of this benefit, Song Zhiqing still said in a soft voice, “Mhm, super angry.”

Ye Yuhuan nodded, then asked a completely unrelated question. “Where is Chi Yuan’s classroom?”

“Eh?” Song Zhiqing tried hard to find some clue in Ye Yuhuan’s calm expression.

“The one at the far right on the third floor.”

Song Zhiqing found nothing, but Ye Yuhuan was already pulling her upstairs. It was morning reading time. Ye Yuhuan knocked politely on the door and spoke politely, “Excuse me, is Chi Yuan here? I need to talk to him about something.”

Sitting in the classroom, Chi Yuan’s eyes lit up. He immediately ran out without needing to be pointed to and said smugly, “Senior, are you going to say yes to me? Don’t worry, you’ll forever be the red rose in my heart. I will love you until the end of time.”

Ye Yuhuan frowned. There it was again, these nonsensical sweet nothings that did nothing but make people uncomfortable.

In the past, however, she had always endured this discomfort.

She never thought these things were important. Discomfort, pain, or humiliation—she didn’t care. She detested these things so much that she wasn’t even willing to give them a reaction.

But today, she thought that perhaps trying a different approach wouldn’t hurt.

Ye Yuhuan parted her beautiful red lips and uttered exceptionally cold words: “Classmate Chi Yuan, I hope you will stop bothering me. Your roses are an annoyance, and your chocolates only make me feel sick. Even your presence in front of me is simply hideous. At the same time, don’t hold out hope that I’ll be moved by your persistence. I can assure you that even if we were the only two people left in the world, the first thing I would do is commit suicide to escape that disgusting world. And don’t you dare think I will yield to your family’s status. To be honest, you have nothing besides money, and money is something that, with my own abilities, won’t be difficult for me to obtain in the future.”

“As for looks, I’m sorry, but you’re not even as good-looking as I am.”

“To put it directly, in my eyes, you’re no different from a lizard. Oh, a lizard is actually better than you. At least lizards don’t talk.”

After she finished speaking, Ye Yuhuan ignored the stunned, red-faced Chi Yuan and the crowd of onlookers who were madly recording. Just as she had arrived, she quickly pulled Song Zhiqing away.

Once they were downstairs, Ye Yuhuan tapped Song Zhiqing’s forehead and asked in a soft voice, “Can we go back to class now?”

Song Zhiqing slowly looked up, the surprise still evident in her eyes. She pinched herself. Ah, it was real.

My strategist, known as the gentle goddess of Qinglin, actually cussed someone out.

Even though she didn’t use any swear words, it was so harsh.

Ah, she’s so cool. I love her so much.

Song Zhiqing covered her face. She couldn’t look directly at Ye Yuhuan now. The moment she did, she wanted to kiss her.

She wanted to do to Ye Yuhuan all the things she had done to the rabbit spirit in her dream.

Song Zhiqing turned and ran off quickly. Seeing that she was heading towards the classroom, Ye Yuhuan didn’t say anything more and followed her.

A thought couldn’t help but cross her mind: Did what I just did count as breaking character?

But, it did feel pretty good.

Ye Yuhuan looked up at the person who had stopped ahead to wait for her, smiled, and quickened her pace.

《Shocking! That Scholarship Student Actually Insulted the School Hunk Like That》

《The Gentle Top Student Has a Side Like This》

《Click to See the Harshest Rejection Speech of the Year》

The scene of Ye Yuhuan rejecting Chi Yuan was filmed and uploaded to the school forum under various titles. In less than a morning, almost everyone at Qinglin had seen the video. Before the corresponding parody videos and memes could be made, the comments below were all along the lines of:

“As expected of the top student, even her insults are high-class.”

“Does anyone else think Ye Yuhuan is so alpha like this? I’m in love, everyone.”

“Same as above.”

“Me too.”

“I’ll be shameless and say it first: Ye Yuhuan is my wife.”

“Shh, my wife is asleep. Don’t wake her up.”

Of course, there were also some people who cursed at Ye Yuhuan, saying that a mere scholarship student didn’t know her place. But as soon as Ye Yuhuan’s grades and honors from the past year were posted, the comparison was clear: one was a rich second-generation kid with nothing but a pretty face, and the other was the top student reigning over all of A-City. It was obvious who didn’t know their place. Even with a class-based filter, it wasn’t hard to see that much.

Ye Yuhuan paid no mind to the commotion on the school forum. After bringing Song Zhiqing back to class, she didn’t pay much attention to the outside world, focusing solely on her studies. The high school curriculum wasn’t difficult for her, but achieving an unrivaled score still required some effort.

It wasn’t until lunchtime, when she saw Song Zhiqing staring at her phone and typing furiously, that Ye Yuhuan sensed something was wrong. After getting her food and sitting down, she looked at the person across from her, still battling with her phone’s keyboard. Ye Yuhuan tapped lightly on the table, but found it wasn’t enough to get Song Zhiqing’s attention.

She could only tap the back of Song Zhiqing’s hand and ask, “Is something wrong with the ‘Care for Lin Qi’ campaign again?”

Song Zhiqing shot her an annoyed glance. This person, really. How could she turn down one admirer only to attract a whole forest of them?

Before, most of Ye Yuhuan’s pursuers were boys. Now, a large group of girls was also clamoring for her.

Song Zhiqing was beyond frustrated. She didn’t even know how to pursue someone herself; even with a guide on how to woo someone, she wouldn’t be sure how to implement it. But this group of people was already shamelessly calling her “wife.”

Pah, she’s obviously my wife!

Seeing Song Zhiqing’s expression grow increasingly sour, and that sourness seemingly directed at her, Ye Yuhuan couldn’t help but touch her own face in confusion. “Did I do something?”

Song Zhiqing slammed her phone face down on the table, picked up her spaghetti, and started eating. She said perfunctorily, “No, it’s just some minor stuff.”

Ha, she had just ordered her army of online commentators to bury all those lovesick comments.

If you want to fight me, first check if you have enough accounts.

Ye Yuhuan glanced again at Song Zhiqing’s triumphant expression and decided not to ask any more questions. Generally, when Song Zhiqing’s emotions were all over the place, it was usually because there was some new development with Shangguan Xianxian.

There was no need for Ye Yuhuan to continue upsetting herself. She just silently ate a little less than usual.

How frustrating. How can I get Song Zhiqing to let go of Shangguan Xianxian?

This thought lingered in Ye Yuhuan’s mind.

When the two of them tacitly went to Ye Yuhuan’s dorm for their lunch break—ever since they had slept over together in T-City, Song Zhiqing had stopped going back to her own dorm for naps—Ye Yuhuan finally couldn’t hold back anymore and asked, “Song Zhiqing, what are your feelings for Shangguan Xianxian now?”

Her actions in the morning had somewhat changed Ye Yuhuan’s usual way of doing things. In the past, she would have preferred to verify her guesses through observation rather than asking directly.

Song Zhiqing was skillfully taking the little rabbit pajamas she had brought from Ye Yuhuan’s closet. Hearing the question, she froze and turned to look at Ye Yuhuan, her eyes filled with hope. “Why are you asking me this question?”
