Xie Jing leaned into Lu Lingcong, his eyes misted with moisture and gazing softly into the distance without any clear focus, making it impossible to tell whether he had taken in Lu Lingcong’s words. The fierce passion of the encounter left moisture gathering at the corners of his eyes; his face flushed red, as tiny tears slowly traced their way down his cheeks to the line of his jaw.

It was difficult to determine the source of this tear. Xie Jing’s body was extremely sensitive; he was always stimulated into shedding physiological tears during intimacy, and it was not uncommon for him to cry out loudly when passion was intense. But in ten years of marriage, Lu Lingcong had almost never seen him genuinely weep.

The only scene he could recall was that rain-soaked night three years earlier, when Xie Jing, who was dressed in white, knelt before him, clutching his personal sword with desperate strength and refusing to let go. His self-control and composure were all destroyed by the shocking turn of events that had slipped out of his grasp, washed away without a trace like torrential rain, leaving only heart-wrenching sobs as he frantically begged him to spare the Xie family.

However, Lu Lingcong’s strength far surpassed his. He ultimately pulled the sword away and strode away from Xie Jing without looking back.

With that thought in mind, Lu Lingcong reached out with the hand not holding him, brushed his fingertip across the tear, and smeared it into a faint, damp streak. He then pressed his finger onto the tubercle of Xie Jing’s lip before rubbing it back and forth. When Xie Jing’s lips and tongue parted unconsciously on their own, he slipped a finger inside, slowly circling the slick warmth within, then used his other fingers to cradle Xie Jing’s jaw, tipping his head up slightly so he could lean in and kiss him.

Xie Jing allowed him to kiss him for a while. A fine silver thread stretched between their lips and teeth when they separated. From that upward-looking angle, Xie Jing stared blankly at Lu Lingcong for a long while, his drifting gaze finally sharpened into focus as though he were waking from a deep dream and suddenly recognizing who the person holding him was.
