RoCD Chapter 82

Arc 5: The Vengeful Ghost — The Bone Beauty (15)

She was about to go gray with worry over the mission. Youyou’s listless appearance day after day made the corner of Bai Youjun’s eye twitch.

Seriously, he really didn’t know why his little sister had insisted on locking horns with that woman, Mo Qingwu. He had even tried to discreetly sound Mo Qingwu out, but the result was that there was no grudge between them. They hadn’t even met before!

His sister had been very well-behaved recently, so well-behaved that Bai Youjun could hardly believe it. Although she was still neglecting her “work” as usual, just eating, drinking, and playing at the company all day without doing a thing, it had to be said that she really hadn’t caused any more trouble.

She looked incredibly obedient.

Walking into the break room with practiced ease, Bai Youjun’s lips curved slightly as he gazed with a smile at the red-haired girl on the sofa.

“Do you have plans tonight?”

He knocked lightly on the wooden door with his forefinger to get the girl’s attention. Bai Youjun winked at Youyou, a teasing smile flashing across his handsome face. “If not, then come be your brother’s date.”

“D-date?”

What date?

“Yep. A semi-charitable business cocktail party. All the guests are big shots. Little Youyou, want to go? It’s pretty fun.”

Youyou: …

Scratching her chin, Youyou gave a lazy yawn and shook her head, uninterested. “No, no. I’m going to the night market. And I’m going to cut my hair short and dye it black.”

This party should be the one where the female lead, Shui Sisi, and the supervillain meet. The plot said that the moment Mo Qingwu saw Shui Sisi, she felt a purely natural sense of closeness. Afterward, at this very party, she came to the rescue of the female lead, who was being harassed and embarrassed, allowing the female lead to steal the show.

And through this, the female lead’s social status was invisibly elevated quite a bit.

“Cut it short and dye it black?”

Raising an eyebrow, Bai Youjun crossed his arms and leaned rakishly against the doorframe.

“I’m all for dyeing it black, but what’s this about cutting it short? Little Youyou looks great as she is now. A beauty with waist-length hair, how charming is that?”

From a purely male perspective, Bai Youjun felt that his little sister was truly a sight for sore eyes. Perfect looks, great figure… although that head of red hair did look a bit out of place, overall, she was super amazing.

Praised by Bai Youjun, the tips of Youyou’s ears turned slightly red. She closed her game, shut the laptop, and her star-like eyes sparkled as she said in a soft, sweet voice, “I heard that short hair makes a person look more sharp and capable.”

Just like the antagonist, who at a glance looked like the super-fierce, not-to-be-provoked type. Youyou wanted to become like that, too. Although a person’s character couldn’t be changed overnight, Xixi had said that she could start by imitating her style of dress.

Sharp… and capable?

Speechlessly, the corner of Bai Youjun’s mouth twitched. He pulled a supplementary card out of his pocket, walked over, and handed it to Youyou, repeatedly reminding her, “Do whatever you want with it, but be safe. Call me to check in every two hours, and you have to be back at the apartment before ten-thirty.”

Accustomed to the instructions of Bai Qu and Su Ling, Youyou had no resistance to Bai Youjun’s words. She obediently put the bank card in her bag and nodded. On her soft and beautiful, makeup-free face, there was no trace of impatience or annoyance.

Seeing this, a glint appeared in Bai Youjun’s eyes. He wanted to say something, but in the end, he remained silent.

At night, the stars dotted the sky.

On the bustling pedestrian street, the lights were brilliant and colorful. Shops stood side-by-side in neat rows, and crowds of people moved about, creating a very lively scene.

Biting into a tanghulu, Youyou looked around with a beaming smile.

Along the way, she had already tasted most of the snacks on the street. Now, her belly was full, and she couldn’t be more satisfied.

And behind her, Mo Qingwu had been following her for a long time.

Seeing the little girl actually thinking of buying grilled skewers again, Mo Qingwu’s brow furrowed slightly, and she finally couldn’t resist stepping forward to stop her.

She pulled Youyou away from the stall, her dark, gloomy eyes filled with displeasure. “You’ve eaten too much. That’s enough.”

Mo Qingwu had always kept her distance from these street snacks. With her mild mysophobia*, she had already done a good job putting up with this little lady’s antics all along. (aka germaphobia, is an intense, irrational fear of germs, dirt, and contamination that can significantly disrupt daily life.)

“Huh?”

Why is the supervillain here?

“Tsk, you really look stupid.”

With a mercilessly sharp tongue, Mo Qingwu pulled Youyou toward the street corner. There, a pure black, limited edition Phantom was parked quietly.

Pulling the girl into the back seat with her, Mo Qingwu signaled the driver to go, then grabbed a tissue to wipe Youyou’s mouth, her tone full of disdain. “The dignified Miss of the Bai family actually likes to eat this stuff. Don’t you find it dirty?”

Youyou: …

“It’s not dirty at all! And don’t touch me!”

Finally snapping out of her daze, Youyou turned her head, took a bite of her tanghulu, and showed her resistance toward Mo Qingwu.

Her fingers froze in mid-air. Mo Qingwu’s gaze darkened. In the next instant, she threw away the tissue, pulled Youyou into her lap, and expressed her answer with her actions. “I’ve already touched you. What is Miss Bai going to do to me, hmm?”

A fiery glint seemed to flicker in her eyes. Maliciously, Mo Qingwu took Youyou’s tanghulu and, ignoring her cry of alarm, threw it into the trash bin as well.

“Miss Bai already wanted to find someone to crush me and is planning to acquire my company. So now, does Miss Bai want to kill me directly?”

Her cold, lingering voice was exceptionally clear in the chilly car. Youyou pressed her lips together tightly and stared at the supervillain before her, not daring to be angry, not daring to speak.

“Heh—”

As expected, she’s a coward.

Just like the her in the dream.

Cold fingertips ambiguously traced the corners of Youyou’s eyes. Mo Qingwu tugged at the corner of her lips. Her smile, which didn’t reach her eyes, looked terrifying to Youyou.

“Does Miss Bai want to know what happened in the end to those who betrayed me and went against me?”

Their position was very intimate. Mo Qingwu was sitting upright, while Youyou was straddling her lap.

The pressure of her hand was very gentle. Mo Qingwu suddenly let out a genuine smile, but that smile made the hair on Youyou’s arms stand on end, and her body instantly stiffened.

“Tsk, what is Miss Bai afraid of?”

With one hand firmly imprisoning the little girl’s waist, Mo Qingwu teasingly flicked her eyelashes and said with a careless smile, “Although in the end, I had all their eyes gouged out, their tendons severed, and had them chopped up to feed the dogs… Miss Bai can rest assured, I won’t do that to you.”

Youyou: …

“Waaah, waaah, waaah, waaah, waaah—”

Her nerves, which had been stretched taut with fear, finally snapped. Youyou wailed, trying to break free from the supervillain, but she couldn’t succeed at all.

Scalding tears streamed from her eyes. Youyou trembled all over, her eyes squeezed shut, having lost even the courage to meet Mo Qingwu’s gaze.

Seeing this, Mo Qingwu’s heart ached, but she also felt a sense of pleasure.

She took out a clean white handkerchief and silently wiped the girl’s tears, but she had no intention of comforting her.

How could this little lesson possibly be enough?

The pain of the person in the dream… was like having one’s heart gouged out.

The car drove slowly toward the Mo residence. Along the way, Mo Qingwu simply knocked the incessantly crying girl unconscious, saving herself from hearing those sounds that tugged at her heart.
