Youyou had no idea how Bai Youjun explained things to his family.
All she knew was that when Bai Youjun brought her back to the Bai family home one day, the attitudes of the Bai family’s parents and older brother were all very amiable.
Though it was a far cry from the passionate doting in her memory fragments, Youyou wasn’t displeased. Since they weren’t Bai Qu, it didn’t matter to her either way.
Life gradually fell into a routine. Youyou spent her days eating, drinking, and playing, and cultivating her relationship with Mo Qingwu along the way—things like watching movies and playing games together. She was having the time of her life. Meanwhile, Shui Sisi—who had quit her job, believing she could use the ancient ring and her own abilities to reach the pinnacle of life—was incredibly frustrated.
Her cultivation had hit a bottleneck, and the ring spirit only offered cold sarcasm. Aside from using the resources in the ancient ring to sell for a large sum of money and make herself richer, Shui Sisi was so agitated and frustrated that she wanted to kill the ring spirit.
Of course, before killing the ring spirit, she would tie it up and torture it soundly to vent the hatred she felt for being humiliated and ignored.
Whereas before, Shui Sisi might have harbored some improper thoughts about the ring spirit, that notion changed completely after she witnessed how it treated Bai Youyou.
However, these plans of Shui Sisi’s were destined to fail. From the moment she used the ancient ring to suppress and weaken the ring spirit’s power in her attempt to tame it, the female ghost had already marked her as an enemy.
On the dark red sandalwood desk lay a dense collection of files and pictures. Mo Qingwu propped her chin on her hand, glanced at them for a few moments, then waved dismissively, utterly uninterested.
“There’s no need to investigate further. We can close the net.”
She had originally thought this woman might use that damn ring to do something interesting, something surprising. But aside from extravagantly wasting heaven-sent treasures—cheaply selling off the items in the ring in an act of pure foolishness—the woman was simply, purely, and unbelievably stupid.
Glancing at her wristwatch, Mo Qingwu gave a sleepy yawn and asked lazily, “Is the gift ready?”
The relaxed Mo Qingwu was unbelievably soft, alluring, and demonic, yet the man in the suit didn’t dare to even think of overstepping his bounds. He lowered his head slightly and said respectfully, “It has been prepared. Will you be departing now, young miss?”
“Mm.”
She had been up all night, having only just finished handling matters. Mo Qingwu rubbed the bridge of her nose, deeply missing her sweet-scented little Youyou.
“Go down and prepare.”
“Yes, young miss.” … At the entrance to the bustling, noisy amusement park, Youyou looked left and right, her limpid eyes, as clear as if they’d been washed with water, searching ceaselessly for Mo Qingwu.
When she saw the Great Demon King, dressed in a button-down shirt and trousers, get out of the car, Youyou’s eyes lit up. Bouncing and skipping, she ran toward Mo Qingwu.
“Qingqing, Qingqing.”
The young woman today wore a red floral maxi dress, a canvas bag slung over her shoulder. Her red hair was also styled in a fluffy braid, making her look exceptionally refreshing.
Slightly narrowing her eyes, Mo Qingwu watched as the vibrant young woman ran toward her. The corner of her lips curved up, and she touched the gift box in her trouser pocket.
She, too, started forward.
“Qingqingggg, you’re so late!”
Thanks to Mo Qingwu’s deliberate guidance, Youyou now affectionately called her Qingqing. Her small hand clutching the hem of Mo Qingwu’s shirt, Youyou pouted and began to drag her toward the amusement park entrance.
“Come on, hurry! I already bought the tickets. Before it gets too crowded, let’s go on the haunted house, the pirate ship, the carousel, the trampolines, the Ferris wheel…”
Youyou rattled off a long list of amusement park attractions without even pausing for breath.
Mo Qingwu, with a doting smile, allowed Youyou to pull her along, utterly indulgent of her lover’s childlike nature.
It was a perfect late summer day, and the two girls, so exquisitely beautiful they seemed almost unearthly, naturally drew a great deal of attention. Frowning imperceptibly, Mo Qingwu took Youyou’s hand in her own. When Youyou tilted her head to look at her, she said.
“There, there. It’s too crowded here. It’s better if we hold hands like this.”
Youyou nodded without objecting.
They went to the haunted house first, where Youyou shrieked with excitement the entire time while Mo Qingwu remained exceptionally calm. After that, they went on many other rides, one after another. Even when Mo Qingwu began to feel tired from all the walking,
Youyou was still brimming with energy.
On the slowly rising Ferris wheel.
Mo Qingwu gazed at Youyou’s flushed face and asked with a gentle smile.
“Having lots of fun?”
Just like in her memories, the little girl was so easy to please. A deep affection flowed from her dark eyes, which were as profound as an abyss. Mo Qingwu took the gift box out of her trouser pocket and held it out to Youyou. “Here, open it.”
Youyou: ……
“Ooh?”
She hadn’t expected Mo Qingwu to bring a gift. Youyou was incredibly surprised. She took the beautifully wrapped little box and opened it. Instantly, she was captivated by the dazzling, deep-pink diamond stud earrings inside.
“Wow, they’re so beautiful!”
As a pampered and somewhat childish girl with a love for the color pink, Youyou had a particular fondness for sparkly, beautiful gems like these. She touched the red bead on her necklace, the one Xixi had said was a gift from Su Ling.
“Qingqing, will you put them on for me?”
Tilting her head slightly to bring her right ear closer to Mo Qingwu, Youyou’s eyes curved into crescents. Her fair, rounded fingertip poked at her own translucent, pinkish-white earlobe. “I can’t put them on without a mirror. You do it for me.”
Threads of sunlight spilled over the girl, making her already crystal-clear and tender skin seem even more translucent. Swallowing almost imperceptibly, Mo Qingwu’s gaze darkened, and she said “okay” in a low, hoarse voice.
The pink diamond studs suited the young woman perfectly. After putting one in, Mo Qingwu couldn’t resist placing a kiss on her earlobe, the gesture deeply reverent.
“Xiao Youyou.”
The name escaped her lips in an instinctive whisper. Mo Qingwu hugged Youyou tightly, resting her head on Youyou’s shoulder. “Youyou, will you marry me?”
In their past life, they had worn their red wedding gowns for so long, yet they had never performed the ceremonial bows. At this thought, a warmth flooded Mo Qingwu’s eyes, and her body began to tremble slightly.
“I will be good to you. I will always be good to you.”
Marriage.
It was something the female ghost had once craved to the point of madness, yet had never successfully achieved.
Mo Qingwu’s low whisper was very soft, as if she were afraid of frightening Youyou. Her tone was vulnerable and obsessive, yet also thick with a pleading quality.
Youyou blinked blankly. She didn’t understand why Mo Qingwu had suddenly become so emotional, but after a moment’s thought, she responded to Mo Qingwu’s question in her soft, sweet voice, “Aren’t we in love with each other? Then naturally, we should get married, right?”
Her tone was full of certainty, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
“Is that so?”
In an instant, it was as if a powerful electric current had shot through her heart, leaving it impossibly soft and numb. The strength in her arms intensified uncontrollably. Mo Qingwu locked her arms around Youyou’s waist, as if trying to merge the girl into her very bones and blood.
The Ferris wheel reached its highest point. The semi-enclosed space made Mo Qingwu’s desire even more unbearable. She tilted her head and bit down on Youyou’s throat, her teeth grinding gently, suggestively against the skin.
“Mm.”
Frowning in discomfort, but remembering Mo Qingwu’s unusual state, Youyou endured it obediently and even patted Mo Qingwu’s head comfortingly.
“Youyou.”
Forcibly suppressing the tumultuous emotions surging within her.
Mo Qingwu sat up and took Youyou’s fingers in her own, her gaze burning as she stared at her. “Remember what you just said. You’re not allowed to forget.”
“Mhm, mhm.”
Nodding obediently, Youyou pouted and pointed to her left ear. “You haven’t put this one in yet.”
Mo Qingwu: ……
“Oh, you.”
Her demonic, alluring face was filled with helplessness. Mo Qingwu tapped the tip of Youyou’s nose, half exasperated and half amused, as she put the other earring in for her.
Really, this adorably clueless girl who couldn’t read the mood and only knew how to ruin the atmosphere—what else could she do but dote on her?
For the rest of their time there, Youyou went on nearly every remaining ride in the park. After leaving the amusement park, they went to a restaurant, then a movie theater, and other places. By the time Mo Qingwu dropped Youyou off at her apartment, the sky was already dark.
“Xiao Youyou, you really won’t come back to the Mo family home with me?”
Leaning wickedly against the doorframe, Mo Qingwu winked at Youyou and said seductively, “If you come back with me, I’ll let you… do… as… you… please.”
Do as you please…
Thanks to that scoundrel Su Ling, Youyou didn’t need any prompting from Mo Qingwu to let her imagination run wild at those words. Her gaze involuntarily fell upon Mo Qingwu’s body. Blushing shyly, she felt terribly embarrassed.
“N-No.”
“Heh.”
Laughter escaped her, amused by the girl’s interesting reaction.
Mo Qingwu suddenly bent down and kissed Youyou’s brow, her voice languid and alluring.
“Then I’ll see you another day. Goodnight, Youyou.”
“Mhm, mhm, goodnight.”
She eagerly shut the door. Youyou clutched her racing heart, her eyes shining astonishingly bright in the darkness. Outside, Mo Qingwu covered her lips with a hand and chuckled softly, “So very cute, my Little Youyou.”
Instead of returning to the main Mo family residence, Mo Qingwu had her driver-cum-bodyguard take her directly to a villa halfway up a mountain on the outskirts of the city. There, a filthy Shui Sisi was lying wretchedly on the floor. When Mo Qingwu stepped into the living room, she was still struggling.
“Hmm, what a state.”
In the large hall stood a dozen or so other bodyguards, both men and women, their postures as straight as pine trees, looking formidable. Mo Qingwu strolled leisurely to the sofa and sat down, impatiently loosening her collar. In a hard, emotionless voice, she said.
“Bring her over here. Then all of you, get out.”
“Yes, young miss.”
A man in a suit who looked like the head of the bodyguards literally hauled Shui Sisi over and dropped her three meters in front of Mo Qingwu. He then gestured for the others, and they all withdrew from the hall.
“It’s you?!”
Shui Sisi, who was trussed up, had disheveled hair and a dusty face. She sat slumped on the floor, glaring resentfully at Mo Qingwu as she demanded with great indignation.
“CEO Mo, I demand to know why!”
She and Mo Qingwu had never had any dealings with each other, so even if Shui Sisi racked her brains, she never would have imagined it was Mo Qingwu who had sent people to kidnap her.
Her eyes were red and moist from extreme grievance and frustration. Shui Sisi stared stubbornly at Mo Qingwu, determined to get an explanation.
“Why?”
Leaning lazily against the sofa, Mo Qingwu glanced sideways at Shui Sisi and said indifferently, “Because the ring on your hand is mine. The things inside the ring are mine. And that fragmented soul you’ve been suppressing is precisely the part of me that I’m missing.”
“I wonder, are those reasons enough for you?”
