逆转 (Reverse) – 莲鹤夫人

Chapter 2

“…What? A virus?!”

The omega asked in shock, his voice rising while he hugged his husband, who had buried his head in his chest and was letting out clingy little hums.

His voice was a bit too loud. The alpha pouted unhappily, feeling dissatisfied that his wife’s attention had shifted to something else. He nudged his way back up, lightly nibbling and worrying at the slender, elegant line of the omega’s neck, trying to drag his attention back.

The omega had no choice but to hurry and soothe him, “Alright, alright, ba—… cough, behave. The doctor is explaining your condition.”

That was close. He’d almost said, “Baby, behave.”

The beta doctor stayed at least ten meters away from the alpha, who was in rut. In times like this, an alpha affected by the virus was both the most terrifying and the most docile of beasts. Without their partner’s comfort, they became painfully insecure and fragile—to the point where even a tiny harsh word from their partner may cause a total mental breakdown. But if anyone had the guts to get close to their partner at that time—an alpha of the same sex, a beta who wasn’t giving off intrusive pheromones, or even an omega who seemed harmless—they would all get the furious, monstrous attack of the alpha, no matter who it was.

Even though he was this distinguished alpha’s long-term private doctor, and even though he was a beta with hardly any pheromones, he could only retreat repeatedly, all the way behind the red line, before daring to speak with his employer’s omega from afar.

“Strictly speaking,” he added, dramatically grabbing a microphone, “This is a newly discovered virus. It only targets alphas—particularly alphas that currently have a marking bond with an omega. The first few cases came in a few months ago, but the details of the outbreak have all come together in the last few days.”

The omega kept rubbing the back of the alpha’s neck. He remembered how much he liked being touched there during his heat, so he tried to do the same thing now. Luckily, it worked. His husband was soon wrapped up in love and attention—like a big cat who could only cling to him, whimpering and purring. The omega, who found humor in his torment, felt like laughing.

“Then how do you make the symptoms go away?” he asked. “Is there any way to fix this right now?”

The doctor cleared his throat and said evasively, “Release your pheromones. Whatever omegas did to get through their heat—that’s how alphas will get through their rut now.”

The omega was stunned. Forgetting to continue calming his husband, he quickly asked, “Then… how long does it last?”

The doctor responded, “Anywhere from three to five days, depending on the alpha’s constitution. Based on our observations, the more top-tier the alpha, the longer the rut lasts. In a way, they are remarkably similar to top-tier omegas.”

The omega froze, suddenly realizing something, “But my heat—”

The doctor smiled, “You will no longer have heat cycles in the traditional sense. Bonding heat will no longer fog your mind. Only your alpha partner’s pheromones will try to get you to, well… mate with him.”

The omega then lowered his head, meeting his husband’s gaze, which was still red.

There will be no more bonding heat. No more insatiable, enduring desires…

The alpha leaned in and kissed him loudly on the lips, then, as he always did, began to hook the omega’s tongue. His pheromones were overpowering, almost wrapping the person in front of him in a cocoon and making him into a butterfly that would never be able to fly.

The alpha didn’t mind one bit that there was still another person in the room. He whimpered and refused to let up as he entwined himself around his omega, shoving him into the couch and grinding against him forcefully.

The doctor coughed awkwardly and said, “Ahem… If there is nothing else, I’ll take my leave—”

“Wait! Hold on a second!” the omega struggled and pushed, eventually managing to release one hand from the clutching, sticky kisses, “I still have a question about—wait, let me finish asking! Be good now! Behave!

The alpha’s hot, heavy body weighed down on the omega like a thick blanket, but he still managed to say, “May I ask if, at this point, there’s any way to… cure this?!”

The doctor, already far away and moving slowly toward the door, said, “There isn’t. There’s already a plan for this kind of virus under your husband’s supervision, and researchers are working on it right now. But at this point, there is no way to cure it.”

“So what should he do now?!” the omega was sweating badly. “I know omegas generally lose all sense of reason when they’re in heat, but with him acting this way, how are those tasks expected to be done? And—ah, be a good boy, please, don’t cry. I have one more question—just one more. There are also documents that need approval, and I don’t know how to—ah!

The doctor shook his head, polite but helpless, “Same answer as before. Whatever it is that omegas do to endure their heat will now apply to alphas as well. That’s all I can say.”

“…That’s it?”

“That’s it.”

The doctor picked up his hat, bowed a little, and turned to leave through the door.

The omega was completely stunned.

How omegas endure their heat is the same with alphas now… The words made him feel sick to his stomach.

Suddenly, his cheek felt cold. A cold drop of something hit the side of the omega’s face.

Was there a leak in the roof?

He looked up. The alpha was still lying on top of him, frozen in the position he had been in when the omega pushed him away. He was shaking all over, and his lips and eyes were constantly about to cry. He wasn’t making any noise and was just gritting his teeth.

The omega gasped in surprise before quickly hugging him, “Ah—sorry, sorry. I was asking the doctor questions; I was worried about your health…”

“Y-you…” the alpha wailed, his chest heaving from tears, “You… you ignored me… it hurts so much… I-I’m dying…”

The omega let out a sigh, leaned in awkwardly, and took the initiative to kiss his cheek.

The alpha’s crying slowly got quieter.

The omega started by unbuttoning his shirt. A sharp clink of metal rang out. After that, he undid his belt and exposed his smooth, pale skin, which was tinged with an alluring shade of red from sweat and heat.

The alpha stared, his eyes wide, and then slowly closed his mouth.

The omega asked, “Hm?”

Though he had already stopped crying, his alpha’s eyes were still filled to the brim with tears.

He couldn’t even speak anymore—he just lunged forward and aggressively licked his omega’s pheromone gland.
