RL – Chapter 9

“Are you from the disciplinary committee or something!” Lin Yi quickly peeked through the transparent glass on the door. Fortunately, the soundproofing was good, and Chen Yuan had her back to the door with headphones on, oblivious to the commotion at the entrance.

Xu Shuyan leaned back against the wall, scrutinizing her. “Weren’t you going back to the dorm?”

“I…” Lin Yi was about to invent a reason on the spot, but then she remembered she was talking to Xu Shuyan. We’re both thousand-year-old foxes, so why play innocent? She straightened up, defiant. “I want to talk to Yuanyuan. Is that a problem?”

“And you!” Lin Yi poked her in the shoulder. “Weren’t you going to listen to a demo?”

“I wanted to see the person I like before I did. Is that a problem?” Xu Shuyan was even more direct. “Unlike you, who said you were going back to the dorm but not only didn’t go downstairs, you ended up running into me up here.”

Inappropriately, Lin Yi was reminded of those jokes about couples who say goodnight to each other, only to meet again in the Summoner’s Rift.

…To hell with couples!

Lin Yi couldn’t be bothered with her and reached for the door. Seeing Xu Shuyan straighten up, she asked warily, “What are you doing?”

Xu Shuyan sneered. “You think I’m going to give you and Yuanyuan space to be alone?”

Lin Yi managed to swallow a curse word. She stopped, letting the door swing shut again. Under Xu Shuyan’s confused gaze, she gave her a push. “Yuanyuan is practicing. Don’t disturb her. Let’s go, let’s go, I’ll go with you to listen to the demo!”

As she was being pushed along, Xu Shuyan sputtered, “Are you crazy, Lin Yi!”

Finally got you, Lin Yi thought. She wrapped an arm around Xu Shuyan’s shoulders with glee. “Insulting a teammate, undermining group unity. That’s a fine, a fine!”

Xu Shuyan: “…”

1L

Front row!

2L

Xu Shuyan is actually just singing? No rap?

3L

Rappers singing love songs are my weakness!

4L

The songs for Yan Zhi You Yi are so sad this time.

5L

Holy crap! No. 89757! Isn’t that about the love between a robot and her master??? My favorite theme is here! Help! One command from you, one action from me. Master, I will never betray you, I’m dead!

6L

Can Chen Yuan even sing this song…

7L

Chen Yuan might as well perform a comedy sketch. It would be a whole new format for a girl group concert!

8L

LMAO, I strongly support this.

9L

Just saw a scalper on my Moments selling pre-orders. VIP seats for 4xxx, and they’re random. More importantly, while I was still hesitating, they were all sold out.

【The economic foundation of my fellow fans is terrifyingly solid.jpg】

10L

I will get a ticket!

11L

I just want to see the beautiful robot and her beautiful master fall in love right now ahhhhh!

12L

Why does Yan Zhi You Yi have another duet stage? The company is pushing them way too hard!

13L

Lol, someone sounds a little salty, don’t they?

14L

It’s obviously because Yan Zhi You Yi’s duet stages are high-quality, go viral every time, and are a magnet for new fans. Who would give up that kind of buzz and gimmick? Do you really think Sweet Melon Entertainment is stupid?

15L

Even as a non-CP fan, I have to admit Yan Zhi You Yi’s stages are god-tier.

“Yan Zhi You Yi’s stages are god-tier!” Zhou Shichen shouted when she came across the post. They were all sitting together eating dinner, and her sudden outburst made everyone except the long-accustomed Yan Qi jump.

Lin Yi, who was on a diet and gnawing on a cucumber, said resentfully, “Can you not ship a CP right in front of the people involved!”

Zhou Shichen pressed her palms together. “Oops, my bad! Won’t happen again!” As she spoke, her big eyes darted between Lin Yi and Xu Shuyan. “You two…”

Xu Shuyan took a bite of rice. “We haven’t rehearsed yet.”

Zhou Shichen said seriously, “Call me when you rehearse.”

Lin Yi’s face darkened.

Zhou Shichen grew even more serious. “I mean, if there’s anything you need help with, you can call me.”

Xu Shuyan: “Okay.”

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Lin Yi sneakily reaching for her cup. Her brow furrowed, and she snatched the cup away with lightning speed just before Lin Yi could grab it.

Lin Yi huffed. “…Are you that petty!?”

“Hm?” Xu Shuyan paused, then realized Lin Yi had misunderstood. She explained instinctively, “This is ice water. Isn’t your period coming soon? Should you be drinking this?”

Lin Yi: “Oh…”

She and Xu Shuyan had been playing their parts for a long time. Although they were at odds, for the sake of authenticity, they had done a deep dive on each other when they first formed the CP. You could say they knew each other like the back of their hands.

For example, Lin Yi knew that when Xu Shuyan got her first period, she did thirty consecutive somersaults just to prove she wasn’t dying, only to end up face-planting in a sandbox and staying in bed for a week.

And Xu Shuyan knew that Lin Yi had her sexual awakening because she developed a crush on the female lead in a romance drama, had an erotic dream about her all night, and the next day, wrote the male lead’s name in her little black book, hoping the scriptwriter would have him get into an accident.

For example, Lin Yi knew Xu Shuyan wore a C-cup. Xu Shuyan knew Lin Yi had a twenty-four-inch waist.

Lin Yi knew that whenever Xu Shuyan wrote rap lyrics, she’d get insomnia and sit by the bay window counting the moons late at night. Xu Shuyan knew that before going on stage, Lin Yi had to listen to the Great Compassion Mantra, muttering to herself like she was about to perform a ritual.

Lin Yi had thought that if Xu Shuyan wasn’t her rival in love, they could have become very good friends.

What a pity!

Lin Yi unbuttoned her shirt one by one, thinking with no small amount of regret that it was a pity Xu Shuyan had such good taste and had also set her sights on Chen Yuan. She clicked her tongue, took off her shirt, and tossed it into the laundry basket next to the wardrobe.

On the adjacent bed, Xu Shuyan was holding a tablet, looking speechless. “Why are you stripping in front of me?”

“What’s wrong? You got the hots for me?” Lin Yi’s suitcase was splayed open on the floor. She bent over to find her pajamas while retorting, “You fickle person! I’m the only one who’s completely devoted to Yuanyuan!”

Xu Shuyan: “Get lost!”

Lin Yi pulled out a long-sleeved pajama top and deliberately threw a seductive wink to disgust Xu Shuyan. Before Xu Shuyan could even react and gag, she quickly ducked into the bathroom.

Only after she had settled into the bathtub did she hear Xu Shuyan shouting from outside, “Lin Yi, I’m going to kill you!”

Lin Yi laughed triumphantly. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and submerged her entire body in the tub. Foam bubbled above her head, and the dim yellow light of the bathroom flickered in and out of focus.

Lin Yi took a very long bath. When she figured Xu Shuyan’s anger had subsided, she tiptoed back into the room.

Xu Shuyan was wearing headphones, watching something. She spared Lin Yi a glance as she passed, then coolly looked away. Lin Yi was too lazy to put on a face mask and tried to bargain with Xu Shuyan. “Can you not tell the makeup artist?”

Xu Shuyan didn’t even look at her. “What’s in it for me?”

Lin Yi fell silent.

Xu Shuyan closed her tablet and proposed, “How about I go with Yuanyuan to her recording session?”

“In your fucking dreams!” Lin Yi sat down on the bed, making the soft mattress bounce. She glared at Xu Shuyan. “I’ll cover my entire body in face masks right now!”

Xu Shuyan: “Oh, then I’ll just have to tell Sister Fang that someone in our group with the last name Lin didn’t do her face mask properly.”

Lin Yi: “…”

She had said it before: she hated Xu Shuyan the most!

After changing Xu Shuyan’s contact name to “Most Hated Person Ever,” Lin Yi’s eyes suddenly lit up. “Hey, Xu Shuyan, I’ve got a film here. Wanna watch?”

Xu Shuyan paused. “What kind of film?”

A second later, it dawned on her, and her face flushed red. “Where did you get that? Do you have any idea how bad the fallout would be for our group if it got out?”

Lin Yi stared at her as if she’d seen a ghost. “Listen to yourself. Are those words really coming out of your mouth? I bought it through legitimate channels with a side account. I only invited you because you have the same sexual orientation as me! Watch it or don’t, I’ll watch it myself!”

With that, she threw back the covers, burrowed underneath, found the film she’d bought a year ago but never opened, and pressed play.

It was actually a film that integrated plot and artistry quite well.

The pacing was slow but surprisingly seductive. Lin Yi was engrossed. She didn’t even notice when the mattress beside her dipped, only feeling a cool draft followed by a source of heat pressing close as Xu Shuyan wrapped an arm around her waist.

Lin Yi wore an expression that said, I knew it. Without turning her head, she said, “I thought you weren’t going to watch?”

Xu Shuyan rested her chin on Lin Yi’s shoulder. “I also said I liked you on camera.”

“So that was all bullshit, right?” Lin Yi scoffed. She covered the phone’s camera, turned her head, and said, “You can watch, but you have to promise not to snitch on me first.”

Xu Shuyan said impatiently, “I won’t.”

Lin Yi: “Including the two times I swore.”

Xu Shuyan found it strange. “How much money could they possibly fine you?”

“Even a mosquito’s leg is still meat, okay?” Lin Yi jabbed her elbow back. “Hurry up and promise, or I’m kicking you off the bed.”

“I know, I know.” Xu Shuyan’s hand reached past her body to grab the phone. She scooted closer, her chest pressing against Lin Yi’s back. “What country is it from?”

Lin Yi felt uncomfortable with her so close. “Don’t be so close!”

Xu Shuyan ignored her, double-tapping the screen to play the video. The volume was just right—inaudible outside the covers, but perfectly clear inside. When the two female leads kissed, both Xu Shuyan and Lin Yi held their breath.

It was a very sensual kiss, a tangle of wet sounds and ragged breaths that made any more explicit actions feel like a natural progression.

Lin Yi couldn’t help but lick her lips.

Her toes, still covered in thin socks, curled. Her knees brushed against each other. The atmosphere had grown so thick with unspoken desire that just as she was about to lose herself in the moment, a soft cough sounded by her ear. Lin Yi snapped back to reality and turned to glare. “I can’t do anything with you here!”

Xu Shuyan was momentarily stunned. “…What are you trying to do?”

Lin Yi gritted her teeth. “I’m not a saint! Even a Bodhisattva would renounce their vows after watching this!”

Xu Shuyan said, “Oh,” then added, “Just pretend I’m not here.”

Lin Yi: “…”

She scooted forward a little, putting some distance between them, and sized Xu Shuyan up. “You don’t feel anything?”

Xu Shuyan’s tone was nonchalant. “It’s alright.”

“I never would have guessed you were frigid,” Lin Yi tutted. “You’ll never be able to make Yuanyuan happy like this!”

Xu Shuyan reached out and turned her face forward. “You do your thing. Don’t mind me.”

The film had reached its most intense moment, the explicit and bold sounds drilling straight into her eardrums. Despite Xu Shuyan’s interruption, Lin Yi’s arousal hadn’t faded. She huddled furtively in Xu Shuyan’s arms.

Xu Shuyan watched the kissing scene in the film, her gaze falling on Lin Yi’s slightly parted lips.

Her philtrum was full and beautiful.

She remembered a duet stage she and Lin Yi had once. Lin Yi had treated her like a stripper pole, her body twisting and grinding against hers, the silky fabric sliding over her exposed skin. When the last note fell, she had grabbed Lin Yi’s waist, pinned her against a wall, and turned her head.

Then, the stage lights went dark.

Amidst the screams and cheers from the audience, she leaned in, her ragged breath brushing past Lin Yi’s cheek. In the instant before the lights came back on, Lin Yi suddenly stood on her tiptoes, her lips pressing against hers.

It was over as quickly as a dragonfly skimming the water’s surface.

The lift began to descend, and the stage lights for their teammates’ performance came on. She was still frozen in place, touching her lips, unable to believe she had just lost her first kiss.

…And it was stolen by Lin Yi!

She glared at Lin Yi, but Lin Yi seemed even more stunned than she was. Before she could say anything, the guilty party played the victim. “You-you-you, why were you so close to me just now?”

Xu Shuyan’s anger skyrocketed. “Weren’t we always this close during rehearsals?”

“Were we?” Lin Yi wiped her mouth vigorously. “Definitely not! You were much closer this time than in rehearsal! …Ahhh, Xu Shuyan, my first kiss! Give me back my first kiss!”

In the end, the farce concluded with the understanding that since it was the first kiss for both of them, neither had taken advantage of the other.

But for a while after that, they found it incredibly awkward to even look at each other and consciously kept their distance. They never expected that the CP fans would start eight hundred threads analyzing what stage their relationship was at.

The final conclusion: They’ve done it! They’ve definitely done it!

Xu Shuyan: “…”

Lin Yi: “…”

Done it, my ass!!!
