The smile instantly froze at the corner of his mouth.
He could only be thankful his hand hadn’t been raised yet, so he didn’t look too foolish.
But at this moment, Fu Yuhan, who had been keeping his head down writing, caught sight of his figure from his peripheral vision, looked up, and actively greeted him: “You’re here so early today?”
Wen Yu usually liked to arrive in the classroom right on time, but today he was quite early.
His tone was calm, but Wen Yu, having heard his various tones often, could discern that his mood seemed quite good.
“Mm, woke up early.” Wen Yu responded. “In a good mood?”
“Not bad. Can’t be dying and living dramatically every day.” Fu Yuhan said flatly. “Life must go on, and my illness is better… I’ve decided to start being human from today.”
“Then congratulations on getting over it.” Wen Yu said, walking over to pull out his chair and put down his bag. His eyes moved from the chair to the desk and then to Fu Yuhan’s desk, asking nonchalantly, “What are you copying?”
Fu Yuhan hadn’t been at school for three days, so teachers wouldn’t be crazy enough to require him to turn in today’s homework. He thought Wen Yu was asking about this and didn’t think much of it, explaining: “Since I didn’t attend classes these past two days, I did part of it at home and want to check the answers.”
For the parts he hadn’t done, he could also look at the solution process to get an idea.
“Whose test paper is this?”
“The class monitor’s.”
Wen Yu made an “mm” sound and sat down.
When first arriving at school, there were always things to organize—completed homework, content to review during morning self-study… If there was really nothing to do, he could memorize English vocabulary. In short, senior students would never let themselves be idle.
So when Wen Yu sat down, Fu Yuhan didn’t pay attention to him and continued copying Ge Ran’s solution process on his own.
Wen Yu held back for a few minutes but still couldn’t stand it. He rubbed his temples and turned his head to ask: “I also have test papers in my drawer. Why don’t you take those?”
“Hm?” Fu Yuhan was stunned for a moment and turned around.
Wen Yu had seen his dazed expression a few times—his eyes would widen a bit more than usual, with a layer of flowing light floating on them, very beautiful. But today, Wen Yu obviously wasn’t in the mood to appreciate it. He leaned closer and asked in a lowered voice: “And of all people, why did you have to take Ge Ran’s?”
Fu Yuhan blinked.
It was instinctive for him, because Ge Ran was easy to talk to, had good grades, and kept neat papers. Not just him—many people in class liked to ask Ge Ran for test papers and homework.
“Everyone does…?” He was somewhat bewildered. “Why can’t I take hers?”
“Brother Fu!”
“Brother Fu, you’re here!”
“Morning, Brother Fu!”
…
People kept entering the classroom, and almost everyone who came in greeted Fu Yuhan. Wen Yu watched him nod at others from time to time, and his patience finally reached its limit.
“Don’t you remember what I told you,” Wen Yu pressed his voice down, staring at him, “that Ge Ran has feelings for you?”
“…I can’t even borrow test papers to avoid suspicion?” Fu Yuhan said speechlessly. “You’re really strict.”
Wen Yu made an “oh” sound and snorted sarcastically: “Is that so? I thought you refused to take my papers to avoid suspicion.”
Fu Yuhan: “…”
Fu Yuhan was speechless for three seconds, then his expression relaxed and he suddenly smiled very faintly: “Why so sour? As if you really like me that much.”
Wen Yu was quite sour, but he felt he didn’t like Fu Yuhan that much.
…He was just someone a bit more interesting than others.
The other’s rare smile was like spring rain, very pleasing to the eye. Wen Yu’s mood improved a little, his gaze lowered, and he remained silent.
“I think your turning to pursue me is about the same nature as you liking Yang Fan—just looking for fun. I didn’t take it too seriously.” Fu Yuhan thought for a moment and continued, “I just happened to see Ge Ran this morning and habitually asked her… How would I know where you stuff your papers?”
“Here.” Wen Yu irritably pulled out a stack of papers from his drawer. “Everything I’ve done is here.”
“Then I’ll take them myself from now on? You won’t come question me about why I’m going through your drawer after I take them, will you?”
“No.” Wen Yu suddenly remembered the sketchbook full of Yang Fan drawings in Fu Yuhan’s drawer, his mouth twitched, and he said meaningfully, “…My drawer doesn’t have any secrets.”
Fu Yuhan didn’t know about him seeing the sketchbook and completely didn’t understand.
It was just copying solution processes—using any top student’s test papers would be the same. Fu Yuhan didn’t want to argue with Wen Yu over such things early in the morning. He put away Ge Ran’s papers, went to return them to her, then walked back and extended his hand toward Wen Yu.
Wen Yu looked up: “What?”
“Didn’t you say you’d lend me papers?” Fu Yuhan said. “I finished copying the past two days’. Let me see yesterday’s that were explained in class.”
Wen Yu looked at him.
“Not willing to give them now?” Fu Yuhan lowered his eyes and said softly, “Then why do you care whose papers I borrow… You’re really troublesome, bro.”
While the two were at a standstill, Fang Jiayuan and Sun Wenrui walked into the classroom arm in arm, their eyes lighting up when they saw him: “Brother Fu! Are you finally better?”
They quickly ran over, each asking about Fu Yuhan’s health condition.
“…I’m better, nothing wrong.” Fu Yuhan nodded at them.
As they were talking, several sheets of paper were stuffed into his outstretched hand. Fu Yuhan turned back to see Wen Yu standing up and walking out: “I’m going to the cafeteria to see what breakfast they have.”
He took large strides as if being chased by someone and quickly disappeared.
Fu Yuhan picked up the papers in his hand and recognized them as the test papers he wanted.
“Brother Fu is copying problems?” Fang Jiayuan leaned over to look. “Damn! Brother Yu wrote this test paper way too detailed!”
“Mm?” Fu Yuhan responded, returned to his seat, and spread out the test papers.
Wen Yu’s handwriting was cold and hard, also in a clean and efficient style. Compared to his, Fu Yuhan’s writing actually showed some gentleness.
“Oh, you don’t know. The class has been marveling at Brother Yu’s note-taking style these past two days.” Fang Jiayuan sat down and found a test paper from three days ago to show Fu Yuhan. “We invited him to join the study group, right? Then everyone started borrowing his test papers and notes, but this guy doesn’t write a single extra word when answering questions except what’s necessary. His corrections are so concise that only he can understand them—look at this I copied from him. I pondered it all afternoon and couldn’t figure it out… So that day I complained to him on behalf of the masses, and he said he’d change his style for the welfare of humanity.”
After Fang Jiayuan finished speaking, he pointed to the test paper on Fu Yuhan’s desk: “This change is too thorough—it’s moving!”
What Fu Yuhan had just spread out was a physics test paper. Wen Yu had underlined key words in each major problem’s stem, wrote out formulas and solution processes step by step cleanly, and even drew analysis diagrams on the side.
During actual exams, things like force analysis or circuit diagrams that help thinking are only allowed to be drawn on scratch paper. Wen Yu couldn’t possibly draw these on his test.
He must have anticipated someone would look at it and specially drew them for others to see.
Fu Yuhan thought “this person acts like he doesn’t want to deal with anyone all day, but he’s actually quite helpful,” then immediately heard Fang Jiayuan ask: “Did he give you the new notes he wrote?”
“No?” Fu Yuhan came back to his senses. “What notes?”
“Notes for all subjects.”
Before Fang Jiayuan could speak, Sun Wenrui, who had been silent, spoke up aggrievedly: “After everyone complained that his notes for all subjects were incomprehensible, he said he’d rewrite them, trying to… trying to finish before you came back so you could look at them first.”
Fu Yuhan was stunned: “…Why?”
“He said to celebrate your reformation and determination to work hard.” Fang Jiayuan said. “We thought about it—this sentence was probably mocking you for being academically poor… but you two have been getting along pretty well lately, so everyone wasn’t sure.”
An inexplicable feeling arose in his heart. Fu Yuhan lowered his eyelids, pursed his lips to adjust his expression, then looked up and mockingly said in his usual indifferent tone: “Your inner monologues are really rich.”
“That’s why we’re telling you this, to let you decide.” Fang Jiayuan shrugged. “Honestly, we still haven’t figured out what’s really going on between you two.”
Actually, Fu Yuhan himself hadn’t quite figured it out either.
“Anyway… our relationship isn’t as bad as you all initially imagined.” His expression was somewhat unnatural as he tried to change the subject. “By the way, has Old Sun come around?”
“He was forced to accept it after discovering you two have a good relationship.” Sun Wenrui looked somewhat resentful. “Brother Fu, my heart is devoted to you—”
Straight guys had no awareness when saying such things, but Fu Yuhan was quite shocked by it. He instinctively leaned back and said with disgust: “Don’t gross me out… What about that girl of yours? Did you win her over?”
“No.” Sun Wenrui was very dejected. “She said she doesn’t want to think about these things before the college entrance exam.”
“Then wait until after the exam and try to get into the same university as her. What’s the big deal?” Fu Yuhan thought for a moment. “Wen Yu… is a pretty good person. I was originally planning to talk to you about this when I came back from sick leave, but I didn’t expect you to figure it out first.”
“But sometimes watching him show off is still annoying.” Sun Wenrui pouted.
“I have such a bad temper,” Fu Yuhan asked, “so how did you guys think of becoming friends with me back then?”
The two were stunned by his question.
No one had thought about this problem. Maybe when they were new students, everyone instinctively tried to make friends with everyone in class. Later, as time went on, everyone gradually discovered that although Fu Yuhan had a cold attitude, he would actually help with anything you asked, and was a very warm-hearted person.
“Yang Fan said something quite right—Wen Yu and I can indeed be friends.” Fu Yuhan lowered his head to copy problems and muttered, “I think he’s quite similar to me in some ways.”
“…” The two in front said in unison, “Where are you similar?”
One was amiable but pretentious, the other cold but warm-hearted; one could get first place with his eyes closed, the other slept and skipped classes at the bottom of the rankings.
Fu Yuhan didn’t answer this question.
When he didn’t speak, the topic naturally moved on quickly. Sun Wenrui was coaxed by the two of them, and his mental block of “accepting Wen Yu in his heart but being awkward about it verbally” was largely resolved.
Once the mental block was resolved, he very realistically began asking for the top student’s notes. The two very obsequiously requested that Fu Yuhan finish copying the notes quickly and lend them to them first.
Fu Yuhan: “…”
He hadn’t even seen a corner of the notebooks, but these two had already arranged his tasks.
“Fine.” He sighed.
So when Wen Yu came back from outside again and casually placed a breakfast on Fu Yuhan’s desk, Fu Yuhan extended his hand toward him for the second time.
Wen Yu looked down with some confusion: “What do you want this time?”
“Notes.” Fu Yuhan said. “They said you rewrote a copy and planned to let me see it first?”
