SPDO Chapter 54

It was still the same classroom, still the same last row, but when Qin Cheng walked in, he felt that everything was different.

Actually, the only thing that had changed was him and his boyfriend.

Maybe it was the power of love; now he felt like smiling at everything. All the way, he was like a leader inspecting the countryside, smiling at everyone he saw.

“What are you laughing at?” Jian Heng tugged at his hand. “What are you looking at?”

“Huh?” Qin Cheng didn’t react right away, still smiling. When Jian Heng retracted his hand, he couldn’t help but scratch his palm, walking beside him and whispering: “I feel like the world has become beautiful. Don’t you think so?”

Jian Heng glanced at the world, turned back to him and said: “Is the world more beautiful than me?”

Qin Cheng was stunned for two seconds, suddenly realizing, and then his laughter couldn’t be contained any longer, as if he had picked up money. He draped his arm over Jian Heng’s shoulder, hugging him and laughing so hard his stomach started to cramp.

“Boyfriend,” after sitting down, Qin Cheng leaned on the table and called him softly. When Jian Heng leaned down to listen, he said: “Is it because you think I’m incredibly handsome and popular, and you’re feeling insecure?”

“No,” Jian Heng said, “I’m just jealous.”

He was confident that no one else could attract Qin Cheng’s attention, he was just jealous that Qin Cheng’s gaze wasn’t solely on him.

“Damn…” Qin Cheng touched his thigh under the table, lowering his voice, “You’re being unfair. I really want to kiss you.”

“Want to go to the bathroom?” Jian Heng asked.

With his pants tightening, Qin Cheng didn’t hesitate for a second: “Let’s go.”

Before they could even stand up——

“My Ge! Miss me?” Tan Qi slammed a box of walnut milk1核桃奶 (hé tao nǎi): Walnut Milk. Walnut Milk and a box of eight-treasure congee2八寶粥 (bā bǎo zhōu): eight-treasure congee (mixed congee traditionally consumed during the Laba Festival); rice congee made with red beans, lotus seeds, longan, red dates, nuts etc. Laba congee is a Chinese ceremonial congee dish traditionally eaten on the eighth day of the twelfth month in the Chinese calendar. The day on which it is traditionally eaten is commonly known as the Laba Festival. It is also known as “eight-treasure congee” and is usually made with eight or more ingredients, representing good luck. Eight is a lucky number in China, and the ba in Laba also means eight. Eight-treasure congee onto Qin Cheng’s desk with a clang, “Here!”

“What the hell are you doing?” Qin Cheng almost got scared soft, only feeling healed after touching his boyfriend’s hand, “Didn’t miss you, who are you?”

“Holy shit,” Tan Qi pointed at him, “Are you unable to even take the time to look at me from a hundred million eyes now!”

“I want to hit you.” Qin Cheng looked around; quite a few people were already staring over here. After all, Tan Qi’s two boxes of essential items for visiting during the New Year and festivals were really too fucking eye-catching.

“Heartless, just heartless,” Tan Qi patted the boxes, suddenly lowering his voice: “Consider this my gift for you two. Wishing you both a harmonious and healthy life and may you have children soon.”

“You, roll,” Qin Cheng pointed at him, then pointed at the boxes, “The stuff, leave it.”

Tan Qi gave him the middle finger and placed the boxes at his feet, “That cockscomb flower, you better take it. I estimate it can last another week; it’s about to be killed by your Auntie Tan.”

“I’ll go after school today, I would have forgotten if you hadn’t mentioned it,” Qin Cheng said.

“I knew it,” Tan Qi rolled his eyes and walked away.

Qin Cheng turned around, just about to continue the previous affection, when Jian Heng, arms crossed and leaning on the chair, looked at him with a scrutinizing gaze: “What cockscomb? Little secret?”

“Mm?” Qin Cheng chuckled, “This student, don’t you think you’re getting jealous a bit too often?”

“Too often?” Jian Heng’s legs crossed, pressing against Qin Cheng’s, his attitude changing faster than flipping a book, “Then it doesn’t matter.”

“How does it not matter,” before Qin Cheng could fully experience the feeling of his boyfriend being jealous, his boyfriend effortlessly withdrew, his knee bumping against him, “Keep going, boyfriend, the more frequent, the better.”

Jian Heng pulled out his homework, propped his chin with one hand, and started writing with the other, his gaze coolly looking at him, asking again: “What cockscomb?”

“That’s right,” Qin Cheng eagerly leaned over to explain, “The other day, I ordered flowers for you and saw a particularly cool one. The boss said it was called cockscomb. Do you know what the flower language is?”

Qin Cheng tantalizingly built up the suspense3賣了個關子 (mài le gè guān zi): 賣關子 (mài guān zi), stop a story at a climax to keep the listeners in suspense; keep others guessing..

“Eternal love,” Jian Heng continued writing, the characters inscribed on the paper with fierce vigor, “immortal and everlasting.”

Qin Cheng’s mouth dropped open, taken aback by the comeback. After a while, he said: “…You school tryant, do you really have such a hodgepodge of knowledge?”

Jian Heng smiled but didn’t say anything.

Qin Cheng stared at his boyfriend’s smile, lost in thought.

His boyfriend is really good-looking.

***

The first period was Lao Xu’s class, and Qin Cheng was dozing off with his head resting on Jian Heng’s arm.

“Qin Cheng! It’s time for class!” Lao Xu shouted to wake him up.

Qin Cheng’s eyes hadn’t even opened yet, but his mouth was already awake: “Report, teacher, I wasn’t sleeping.”

“Get up!” Lao Xu, too lazy to deal with him, shouted once and then said with a serious face: “No class for the first period today.”

Before they could cheer, she said again: “We’re having a class meeting.”

Qin Cheng yawned, leaned on Jian Heng, and lazily asked on behalf of the whole class: “Teacher, what’s the topic? Is it about not allowing puppy love again?”

The class burst into laughter.

“No,” Lao Xu unusually didn’t scold him, “the topic is how to cope with the pressures of studying and life.”

Qin Cheng felt sleepy just hearing the topic; he had no pressure, so he could sleep.

“I believe some of you have already heard,” Lao Xu said in a serious tone, “an Omega in the third year of high school had a mental breakdown due to excessive study pressure and attempted self-harm in the dormitory, nearly causing a tragedy.”

“What?” Qin Cheng instantly woke up, looked up at Lao Xu, and then turned his head to look at Jian Heng.

Their school couldn’t really be considered a key high school; the learning atmosphere wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t very intense either.

In a school with such a low graduation rate, there would still be cases of self-harm due to excessive pressure.

The school said it was due to study pressure, but Qin Cheng held a reserved opinion.

The chaos at Fifth High School hasn’t been a one or two-day issue; on the boys’ side, he keeps things in check, so there are basically no incidents of campus bullying. As for the girls’ side, he can’t say for sure.

Lao Xu wrote the topic of the class meeting on the blackboard.

“I know that you are very tired from studying every day. It’s midnight when you get home, and your parents may still scold you. Repeating such days can inevitably cause a lot of psychological pressure.”

“So in this class meeting we will discuss the pressures in study life and how to deal with them.”

“Which student wants to speak first?”

There was a stir in the crowd, but no one was willing to stand up for a moment

“Even if you’re going to mess around, you should at least be prepared,” Qin Cheng leaned back on the desk and whispered to Jian Heng, “This question is too sudden.”

Jian Heng, clearly uninterested in the topic, pulled out an English test paper and handed it to him: “No pressure, just write the test.”

When the paper came flying, Qin Cheng was shocked: “Is writing test papers now a trend in dating?”

Jian Heng looked at him: “Otherwise?”

“Resigned to my fate.” Qin Cheng sighed and took the test paper.

Lao Xu suddenly called out: “Tan Qi, you speak.”

“Ah?” Tan Qi, who was just joking around with his deskmate, was suddenly called and stood up in confusion after two seconds, “I, I think pressure is like… it’s like, it’s just motivation!”

Qin Cheng snickered and clapped his hands, giving him face: “Well said!”

With his Ge’s encouragement, Tan Qi’s confidence soared instantly, and he babbled out a string of words: “To balance the pressure of study and the pressure of life, we can, we can…”

He suddenly got stuck and turned back to look at Qin Cheng, who was clapping for him. His eyes lit up and he said loudly: “We can set a lofty goal, like if the person you like is going to Tsinghua or Peking University, and your score isn’t even close to theirs, then you’ll be willing to work hard.”

Qin Cheng was taken aback; was this silly son hinting at his dad?

“Well said,” Lao Xu encouraged him with a glance, “Although we don’t advocate puppy love, we can use it as motivation. Keep going.”

Tan Qi was completely pumped up, waving his arms like it was a college entrance exam rally: “We need to have goals, we need to have dreams! I want to get into Normal University because my mom is a kindergarten teacher. She always says I’m not even as good as the little kids she teaches. I need to prove to her that not only am I better than those little kids, but I can also teach even more difficult big kids than the ones she teaches!”

The class burst into laughter, and Lao Xu couldn’t help but laugh too: “Yes, Tan Qi is right. If anyone still has dreams, speak up. Only with goals do we have motivation, and only then will we feel that the hardships we’ve endured are worth it.”

Under Tan Qi’s leadership, the class began to share their dreams one by one, talk about their ideals, and even started to report the universities they aspired to attend and the majors they wanted to pursue.

Qin Cheng was stunned; how come everyone’s goals were so clear?

He couldn’t help but glance back at Jian Heng. Where would Jian Heng go? If Jian Heng goes, could he keep up?

The three words ‘You trust me’ are not just words; he has to make them a reality.

When it was their table’s turn, Jian Heng stood up and casually said: “Medical University.”

Qin Cheng felt for a moment that his boyfriend was glowing.

The first time Qin Cheng saw someone in a school like Fifth High School saying they wanted to go to a prestigious medical university, and it was his boyfriend.

The phrase ‘with pride’ is no longer enough to describe his current mood.

Jian Heng was very calm, and Qin Cheng was bragging for him.

“Qin Cheng, it’s your turn,” Lao Xu suddenly called him, “What’s so beautiful over there?”

The author has something to say:

After the sixth day, the author, with trembling hands, picked up a large tea mug and said, stammering: Currently, my health has some minor issues, and I have a lot of real-world matters to attend to. I’ve been trying hard to stick to the sixth day, but I can’t guarantee it will always be the sixth day. However, 【I will definitely update daily】. Love you all!”
