WTDWPK Chapter 57

Main Story Ends

After joining The Prosperous Tang Dynasty, Song Yu’s performance was very impressive. Although his acting still fell short compared to the veteran actors, he was diligent and eager to learn. Every day, he was the first to arrive on set, helping out with small tasks or pestering the senior actors to teach him about acting. With their permission, he even recorded cheerful short videos and posted them online to help boost the veterans’ popularity.

In truth, those seasoned actors no longer cared much about fame or profit. But since Song Yu didn’t have any other way to repay their kindness, this was the best he could do. His fans, moved by his sincerity, had long shared his dedication. When Song Yu tried to help the veteran actors gain more recognition, his fans actively promoted them too, editing and sharing clips of their classic performances. As a result, the series became popular even before airing, and those once-forgotten actors returned to the public eye.

The director of the drama, surnamed Jin, was fifty-four years old and had been in the industry for thirty years. When he assembled the cast, most of his old friends joined without asking for pay, aside from a little help from his son. In this current era driven by online traffic and popularity, they had the skill but not the opportunities. Their lives weren’t impoverished, but they were far from comfortable.

So when Yin Lang first contacted him, Director Jin had his concerns, he wanted to use Song Yu’s popularity to bring attention to the project but worried that Song Yu’s acting might not live up to the role and would compromise artistic quality. For a time, he was quite disheartened.

Fortunately, Song Yu turned out to be both talented and hardworking, full of natural charm—a promising student worth teaching. Even more commendably, after realizing the director’s intentions, neither he nor his team acted arrogant about it. Relieved and moved, Director Jin felt a pang of guilt and decided to guide Song Yu even more carefully.

Soon, Song Yu became the group’s beloved member, the “team favorite.” The veteran actors treated him like their own son or nephew, and Song Yu, being thoughtful by nature, often looked after them.

Once, on a rainy day, Jiang Lin, who played Changsun Wuji, kept massaging his legs. Song Yu noticed and asked about it. Jiang Lin explained that when he was younger, he once filmed an intense water scene that didn’t turn out well, so he stayed in the cold water shooting all day. As a result, he developed rheumatism, which he’d been treating for years. It was nearly healed, but the recent long, demanding shoots had caused it to flare up again.

When Song Yu heard Jiang Lin’s story, he didn’t say much, and Jiang Lin had only mentioned it casually. But that very afternoon, the physical therapy device Song Yu asked his assistant to buy was delivered to the set, Jiang Lin’s eyes instantly reddened.

Yin Lang thought that some people truly deserve their success. They are kind by nature, talented, hardworking, and, most importantly, they always keep their original sincerity.

So when Song Yu asked for leave to celebrate Fu Yuqian’s birthday and even later, when they heard he planned to propose, everyone in the crew was very supportive. They teased him, laughed, and even pooled money to buy him a gift.

Director Jin laughed and said, “Don’t worry. If that kid Fu Yuqian dares to say no, the few of us old bones will go beat him up. If we can’t win, we’ll just lie on the ground and play victim!”

Song Yu burst out laughing. “Director Jin, don’t be like that! He wouldn’t dare say no. And if he does, I’ll dump him myself then you can introduce me to someone better.”

“Hah, if my son didn’t like women, I’d really want to introduce you to him,” Director Jin said with a grin. “Oh, that reminds me, my youngest daughter is one of your fans. She asked me to check something for her. You’ve got a big fan called Lang Yue, right? I heard she’s quite capable. My daughter’s been saying she wants to bring her home as a sister-in-law. Do you know this Lang Yue?”

Song Yu: “…”

Wow, the world really is small.

He suddenly remembered that when Director Jin’s production team was being formed, his son had played a big role in supporting it. The director had mentioned before that his son was the CEO of a top-100 company’s China branch but Song Yu hadn’t connected the dots back then.

What a small and magical world.

Still, he didn’t admit anything right away. After all, matchmaking wasn’t something to take lightly, he should at least ask the goddess Lang Yue’s opinion first, hahaha.

Holding back a laugh, Song Yu put on an innocent face. “I’ve heard of her, but I haven’t interacted with her personally.”

Director Jin didn’t press him. He understood the unspoken rules of fandom, idols couldn’t privately contact their fans and besides, young people’s relationships were their own business. Letting the topic drop, he patted Song Yu on the shoulder and said warmly, “Good kid, I wish all your wishes come true.”

“Thank you, Director Jin.”

After finishing his scenes, Song Yu rushed back to the capital overnight. Fu Yuqian had also taken leave and arrived home almost at the same time as him.

A brief separation makes reunion sweeter, Song Yu barely had time to express how much he missed him before Fu Yuqian carried him straight into the bathroom. Unable to resist, Song Yu was thoroughly ravished. He had received the ring earlier that day, it was even more beautiful than he had imagined and thinking about surprising Fu Yuqian tomorrow filled him with excitement. That night, he even agreed to try some of the “forbidden” positions he usually refused… including the split.

If not for the proposal planned for the next day, which made him beg for mercy, Fu Yuqian might have kept going all night.

This man’s stamina was terrifying.

By the time they finished, it was already past midnight. Song Yu was so exhausted he could barely keep his eyes open, but he stubbornly refused to sleep, mumbling and squirming in Fu Yuqian’s arms. Knowing he was waiting for the clock to strike twelve to wish him happy birthday, Fu Yuqian didn’t force him to rest. Instead, he gently started a conversation about how things had been on set.

Song Yu, as always, only shared the good and hid the bad. Even though he’d almost suffered from heatstroke while wearing thick winter costumes under the blazing late-autumn sun, he said nothing about it, only that the crew took great care of him, taught him a lot about acting, and that he was improving quickly.

“You’d better start improving your acting too,” Song Yu teased proudly. “Otherwise, I’ll win the Best Actor award before you do!”

Fu Yuqian had already heard from Yin Lang about everything that happened on set. Though he felt distressed for Song Yu, he knew these were the hardships every actor had to go through, success never came easy. Smiling, he praised him softly, “You’re amazing, baby. I can’t wait to see you win Best Actor.”

Looking at Fu Yuqian’s handsome face, Song Yu’s heart melted. As the clock struck midnight, he suddenly hugged him tightly and planted a kiss on his lips. “Happy birthday, hubby. I love you!”

That one “hubby” almost made Fu Yuqian transform into a beast on the spot.

Right after saying that, Song Yu fell asleep instantly afraid that if he stayed awake a second longer, he’d be “eaten” again.

Teasing really was fun.

Though there were no dark circles under his eyes, Song Yu was clearly worn out. Fu Yuqian didn’t have the heart to wake him, only sighed softly. He gently adjusted his position to make him more comfortable.

Song Yu had originally planned to surprise Fu Yuqian by cooking longevity noodles, but when he finally woke up, the sun was already high, nearly nine o’clock and Fu Yuqian had finished making breakfast.

“Ah! I overslept again! Why did you turn off my alarm?” Song Yu asked, flustered.

“Because I couldn’t bear to wake you,” Fu Yuqian said, leaning down to kiss his forehead. “Come on, get up and eat. Don’t you want to go to the amusement park?”

Song Yu kissed him back and jumped out of bed full of energy.

Fu Yuqian didn’t know about Song Yu’s proposal plan, but he had still prepared carefully for their date. He had two matching outfits — one black, one white — simple yet elegant, both custom-tailored by a designer.

“These fit perfectly! I look so handsome,” Song Yu said, admiring himself in the mirror. The outfit highlighted his proportions beautifully, making his legs look long and straight.

“That’s because I personally took your measurements,” Fu Yuqian said with a teasing smile.

Song Yu rolled his eyes. “You really can’t miss a chance to flirt, huh.”

When he turned around and saw Fu Yuqian in his matching outfit, his eyes lit up, his admiration completely undisguised. Fu Yuqian, taller and more muscular, looked striking in black, the color accentuating his aura perfectly.

Together, they made a stunning pair.

Putting on their hats and sunglasses, they walked out hand in hand.

It wasn’t a weekend, so the amusement park wasn’t crowded, most visitors were parents with children, with a few young couples sprinkled among them.

The sun shone warmly, the sky a rare bright blue. As the two walked hand in hand, they naturally drew attention.

Since the Marriage Law had been amended, same-sex couples had become more visible in public. At first, people found it novel to see two men kissing on the street, but soon it became ordinary. Still, because Song Yu and Fu Yuqian were both strikingly good-looking and had outstanding temperaments, they inevitably turned heads.

When onlookers noticed their clasped hands, they could only sigh wistfully — ah, these days, even the handsome guys can openly be together.

Soon, some fans recognized Fu Yuqian and Song Yu. After all, both of them were top celebrities, and their fans could be found everywhere. Excited and thrilled, the fans approached cautiously and politely asked for confirmation. When the two nodded, the girls immediately asked if they could have an autograph.

Song Yu and Fu Yuqian both agreed readily and signed their names with a smile.

Coincidentally, the fans who recognized them were Pisces CP (Fu–Song ship) supporters. Seeing the two holding hands, one of the girls was moved to tears. “You must stay happy forever! Always be together!” she said, her voice trembling.

“Thank you,” Song Yu replied warmly. He politely removed his sunglasses, smiled softly at her, and even made a little fist-pump gesture. “Pisces is real — fighting!”

The girl, struck by his adorableness, nearly collapsed into her friend’s arms, gasping for breath.

Song Yu even took a photo with them but asked the girl to post it on Weibo later in the afternoon. Of course, she agreed immediately, glancing back at him several times with reluctance before finally walking away with her friend.

The amusement park was beautiful. It was late autumn, and chrysanthemums of every variety and color were in full bloom, creating a breathtaking sight. Song Yu was amazed, he hadn’t known there were so many kinds of chrysanthemums.

Fu Yuqian, staying true to his “salty duck egg” (deadpan flirt) personality, said without missing a beat, “None of them are as beautiful as you.”

Song Yu: “…”
What should he do? He was starting to doubt himself. Was he really going to spend his whole life with this shameless flirt?

Forget it, he was the one who picked this man. Even if he had to kneel through it, they’d grow old together.

They spent the day enjoying all kinds of rides, thrilling, romantic, and fun. Song Yu felt deeply content. His childhood had been tough, but maybe it was all so he could experience sweetness like this today.

As Song Yu subtly led Fu Yuqian toward a quiet area, Fu Yuqian began to feel a strange premonition rising in his chest.

Rounding a dense, round hedge of flowers, Fu Yuqian was stunned by the scene before him, the surprise and romance Song Yu had prepared for him.

Golden balloons formed the word LOVE, surrounded by red, pink, and multicolored roses. Some fans in pink tulle dresses stood nearby holding confetti poppers, and Yin Lang was there too, recording everything with a handheld camera.

“When did you prepare all this?” Fu Yuqian asked in astonishment, pulling Song Yu into his arms. “This should’ve been my job.”

His baby, how could he be so wonderful?

“You’ll be in charge of planning the wedding. I won’t interfere,” Song Yu said with a trembling smile, his eyes glistening with emotion. After hugging him back, he gently stepped away. “But for now, let’s go through the proposal properly.”

Yi Yi and His Majesty, their two cats were brought over as well. Both wore matching outfits with little bow ties, each carrying a small red velvet box on their collars. They looked adorably dignified. Hearing Song Yu’s cue, the cats began walking toward them with precise, elegant steps.

Kneeling on one knee on the red carpet, Song Yu removed the box from Yi Yi’s neck and slowly opened it.

“Mr. Fu Yuqian,” he said, his voice steady but filled with feeling, “we’ve been together for exactly 305 days. During this time, you’ve taken such good care of me. To thank you, I want to entrust my entire future to you. I love you, and I’m confident that I’ll love you for the rest of my life, just as I do today. I want to walk through the rest of life by your side. Mr. Fu, will you marry me?”

Fu Yuqian’s eyes turned red as he knelt down too. “I will. I love you, Xiao Yu.”

Tears streamed down Song Yu’s face before he even realized it, tears of pure happiness. He took Fu Yuqian’s hand and slipped the ring onto his finger. “Then it’s settled we’ll grow old together and never part.”

Fu Yuqian took the ring box from His Majesty’s collar and placed the matching ring on Song Yu’s finger. Then he pulled him into a tight embrace, unable to stop his own tears. He felt that in three lifetimes, he couldn’t have been luckier than to meet and love Song Yu.

The fans nearby were already crying. If Yin Lang hadn’t reminded them, they would’ve forgotten to pop the confetti.

As flower petals and colorful paper filled the air, under the cheers of their fans, Fu Yuqian kissed Song Yu tenderly, reverently.

Perhaps heaven had arranged that car accident so that Song Yu would become Fu Yuqian’s cat… just so they could meet, fall in love, and stay together forever.
