Qi Feng tightly wrapped his arms around Yan Jiyun’s neck and shouted, “Caramel, let’s jump down from here!”
Since Qi Feng had said so, Yan Jiyun had nothing to hesitate about. A pack of dinosaurs was chasing after him again from behind, and he plunged headfirst into the deep blue vortex.
Yan Jiyun’s Lucky Card expired, and after a dizzying whirl, he turned back into a kitten and fell into Qi Feng’s arms.
They had switched scenes again.
This time, there were no sobbing cries to guide them. The nightmare had become much more cautious; there was no seawater flooding in or childish settings like the dinosaur amusement park.
For the moment, neither of them knew where they were.
What they did know was that the bed they were lying on was quite comfortable. Yan Jiyun jumped up and looked around at the surroundings.
It wasn’t the dormitory they had been staying in, but a spacious and brightly lit children’s bedroom. There were many dolls of different appearances at the head of the bed.
The custom bookshelves were also packed layer upon layer with dolls — animal dolls as well as humanoid dolls. If there had only been three or five in a collection, there would have been nothing remarkable about it, but with the entire wall covered in them, the visual impact was intense. The humanoid dolls, in particular, looked almost like real people.
Yan Jiyun instinctively extended his claws, nearly tearing the bedsheet beneath his paws.
Having learned his lesson from being forcibly separated from Caramel during the Peak Tournament, Qi Feng had not only hugged his neck tightly when they fell through the vortex, but had also grabbed onto his fur. Fortunately, Caramel hadn’t been separated from him this time.
They could continue “journeying” Teacher Qu’s dreamscape.
Yan Jiyun confirmed that they had entered young Teacher Qu’s nightmare, because in the previous two scenes, Teacher Qu had appeared as a child. They were now also in an elementary school scenario, and judging from the fact that neither of them had returned to their original forms, it could be determined that they had been entering the dreams of a child. Otherwise, a setting like dinosaur park would never have appeared.
As an adult, Yan Jiyun could no longer remember the last time he had visited a dinosaur-themed amusement park.
Qi Feng immediately climbed out of bed. After the dinosaur park, he realized that his Caramel was even smarter than he had imagined. Perhaps the intelligence Caramel had displayed at home had only been a small part of it. Because he was constantly entering instances, he had never properly communicated with him or paid him enough attention, so he actually didn’t know Caramel very well.
How wonderful. Perhaps it was precisely because Caramel was so intelligent that he had managed to survive the instances again and again. He certainly hadn’t relied solely on other players’ help. More likely, Caramel had been the one helping the other players. Otherwise, why would that “new owner” have risked being discovered just to take Caramel away?
Caramel had played a major role in the instance. At the very least, without Caramel, he probably wouldn’t have been able to escape from the dinosaur world.
Qi Feng picked up Yan Jiyun, who was kneading the pillow with his paws.
Yan Jiyun couldn’t help it. Instinctively, he wanted to knead something soft and fluffy. It helped him relax.
He had run quite a lot just now and was still slightly out of breath.
Qi Feng gently stroked his back. Knowing Caramel was exhausted from running, he didn’t make him walk.
It was fairly quiet outside. There were no footsteps, nor any sobbing. However, just then, the sounds of a man and a woman arguing suddenly came from outside, and the commotion was quite loud.
Qi Feng quickly found a sports backpack in the room. Yan Jiyun voluntarily jumped inside. At a time like this, there was no point worrying about what he was lying in. They needed to investigate the plot first.
A nightmare often was about the things a person feared most, dreaded most, and least wanted to face.
Yan Jiyun had excellent hearing. Even without going downstairs, he could hear every word of the conversation between the man and woman below. Qi Feng, however, couldn’t hear as clearly as he could, so they still needed to get closer. At the very least, they had to find out what the couple looked like.
i Feng carried Yan Jiyun out of the cozy children’s bedroom.
He bent over, walking on tiptoe as he carefully approached the first floor.
The layout of the house was straightforward. The living room was on the first floor, the bedrooms were on the second, and what was on the third floor remained unknown. They were currently on the second floor.
Class Monitor No. 5 had been right — his family really was wealthy.
But then again, wealthy families usually had plenty of problems.
Whether a person’s life turned out fortunate or unfortunate was, for the most part, rooted in their family of origin.
Although a man and a woman were arguing downstairs, neither of them seemed like ordinary people. Even their argument was relatively restrained. Each was calmly reasoning with the other. It was an extremely rational quarrel.
Unlike ordinary families, whose arguments revolved around children and love.
These two were more focused on their own lives and careers. Compared to their family, they seemed to care more about realizing their own personal value.
The woman’s voice was neither loud nor soft, gentle yet resolute. “Qu Xiangge, I know your time is valuable, but my time is valuable too. No matter what, we need to come to an arrangement today.”
Qu Xiangge apparently had no intention of giving way either. “I’ve already sent you the agreement. Tell me exactly what you’re still dissatisfied with.”
The woman said, “I already told you. We need to come to an arrangement regarding our divorce. I’ve made my position very clear. I hope our son will be raised by you.”
Qu Xiangge let out a lukewarm chuckle. “When we were dating, I didn’t want this child. You said he was a little life, and I agreed to keep him. But now you’re pushing him onto me. To be honest, I can’t take care of him.”
The woman said, “But you’re also his father. You have the responsibility and obligation to raise him. I’m flying to Country A tomorrow for an exhibition, and after that I’ll be traveling all over the world. Your career is based domestically, so you’re more suited to raising him than I am. I’ve considered this comprehensively. I hope you can look at this matter more maturely.”
Qu Xiangge said, “Lin Mu. There’s nothing to discuss. You’re the one who decided to give birth to him back then.”
Lin Mu was the woman’s name. She said, “Your parents can help take care of him. Qiaoqiao will receive excellent care.”
Qu Xiangge’s expression darkened. “So you’re still insisting on not taking him with you.”
Lin Mu brushed the hair that had fallen over her chest back behind her shoulders and nodded firmly. “Yes.”
Qu Xiangge shook his head. “You really are a heartless woman.”
Lin Mu remained perfectly calm. “When I married you, I told you I didn’t want to give up my career. Right now, I’m simply pursuing my career. Aren’t you doing exactly the same thing?”
Qu Xiangge said, “That’s true. I married you in the first place because I didn’t want an arranged marriage. However, after divorcing you, I’ll start another family.”
Lin Mu replied, “You say I’m career-driven, but your ambition is no less than mine. At the very least, I won’t be starting another family anytime soon.”
The two talked for a while longer before quickly reaching an agreement.
Qu Xiangge left with the signed agreement, while Lin Mu went upstairs to pack her luggage. Before long, she dragged her suitcase out of the house.
After giving a few instructions to the housekeeper in the kitchen, she left with her suitcase.
From beginning to end, neither of them mentioned what should happen to the child.
Qu Xiangge should be Teacher Qu’s father, while Lin Mu should be his mother.
Starting off with a divorce? This was far too decisive.
From Lin Mu’s or Qu Xiangge’s perspective, their divorce was swift. Rather than being criticized, people would probably praise them for being decisive and efficient. But from the young Teacher Qu’s perspective, they were an extremely irresponsible pair of parents. They only cared about giving birth to him, not raising him.
Different perspectives led to different ways of viewing the same issue, and thus to different conclusions.
Yan Jiyun perked up his ears and listened to the sounds around him. Why wasn’t there a Class Monitor No. N this time?
The enormous house was left with only the housekeeper moving about on the first floor. After preparing a full table of dishes, the housekeeper made a phone call downstairs. The telephone in the children’s bedroom rang, but no one answered.
Yan Jiyun guessed she was calling Teacher Qu himself in the children’s bedroom.
The housekeeper called twice more, but there was still no answer, so she went upstairs.
Qi Feng quietly followed behind her and went up to the third floor with her.
The housekeeper knocked on the door of a room on the south side of the third floor. As soon as the door opened, Yan Jiyun and Qi Feng heard the sound of a sewing machine whirring inside.
The housekeeper called gently, “Xiao Qiao, it’s time to eat.”
However, the sewing machine didn’t stop. It continued running without pause.
“Sir and Madam aren’t eating at home today either.” The housekeeper said, “If you don’t come to eat now, the food will get cold.”
A moment later, the sewing machine stopped.
A child who looked exactly like the Little Class Monitor walked out of the room.
His face was expressionless. He focused only on walking his own path and didn’t notice Qi Feng hiding behind a large vase.
So this was the real Teacher Qu?
So this was what he looked like. If one only knew about his wealthy family background, it wouldn’t inspire much sympathy. But knowing that he had been cast aside by two parents who loved themselves more, Yan Jiyun found him rather pitiful.
Qi Feng didn’t immediately follow Teacher Xiao Qu downstairs. Instead, he pushed open the door to the room Teacher Xiao Qu had just exited.
After opening the door, Qi Feng stood frozen in the doorway.
Yan Jiyun poked his head out of the sports backpack. Curious about what had made Qi Feng stand motionless as though he had been frightened, he looked inside.
Driven by curiosity, Yan Jiyun saw everything within the room.
In the center of the room stood a white sewing machine. Throughout the room, whether on the walls or scattered across the floor, were dolls sewn with two lines of bloody tears.
Terrified, Yan Jiyun immediately turned his head and buried his face against Qi Feng’s small chest, trying to hide, because he really didn’t want to see.
This scene was fucking horrifying!
