DSMC Chapter 158.1

Gift Bracelet (Part 1)

[Want to be Human] livestream channel:

“Whenever those two interact, my kitty starts acting all cuddly. How can something have such an adorable contrast? Once you fall into the rabbit hole that is Kitty Baby, there’s no climbing back out. The Level 5 streamer and Kitty Baby have insane chemistry.”

“The Level 5 streamer still doesn’t know Kitty Baby is actually his temporary teammate, right? Once he finds out, Kitty Baby’s identity will be exposed. That’s going to be so exciting! I suddenly want to see them become enemies!”

“I don’t think they’ll become enemies. If anything, it’ll just be incredibly awkward for the Level 5 streamer. Though… I’d still like to see it. Lovers turning into enemies and all that~”

“They’re master and pet, not lovers. Don’t make stuff up. But damn… I kind of want to see it too.”

“This is a horror livestream. Why are you people watching romance? I was just feeling sorry for Xiao Qu-laoshi, and then we get a room full of blood-tear dolls. Was he a little psychopath from childhood?”

“I got goosebumps too. But then again, this is Qu-laoshi’s nightmare. It only reflects his nightmare world. He probably wouldn’t actually do something like this. More likely, these blood-tear dolls symbolize how deeply being abandoned by his parents hurt him.”

Teacher Qu had been far too abnormal as a child.

Yan Jiyun thought the same thing. What kind of child loved sewing dolls from such a young age, and then made them look this horrifying? It was enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.

His parents had probably played a huge part in shaping his mental state.

Still, this personality wasn’t necessarily Teacher Qu’s original main personality. Yan Jiyun mentally assigned him a number: Class Monitor No. 6.

If his theory about the seven emotions was correct, then only Class Monitor No. 7 remained unfound.

Although there might be more than seven. After all, this was a game, and games were inherently unpredictable. The seven emotions corresponding to seven personalities was only his own speculation.

Qi Feng was clearly much braver than Yan Jiyun. After entering the room, he picked up one of the dolls that was still being made and examined it carefully.

Yan Jiyun had calmed down by now. Somehow, having someone with him made the room feel less frightening.

Following Qi Feng’s gaze, he noticed that every newly made doll had a serial number stitched onto the left side of its chest. The humanoid doll Qi Feng was holding hadn’t had its eyes sewn on yet, making it far less terrifying than the completed ones.

Yan Jiyun didn’t dare stare at any one doll for too long. He didn’t know how Qi Feng felt, but to him, it seemed as though the dolls might spring to life at any moment.

Click.

The door, which had been left open, suddenly swung shut on its own.

Perched on Qi Feng’s shoulder, Yan Jiyun saw a teddy bear wearing a pink dress waddle over from the corner, close the door, then obediently return to where it had been standing.

He leapt out of Qi Feng’s arms and rushed over, batting the pink teddy with a paw. It toppled over onto the floor.

The fallen teddy suddenly burst into loud sobs. “Waaah! Daddy! A bad kitty kicked me!”

Yan Jiyun & Qi Feng: “…”

Children’s dreams really were fantastical.

Seriously, why had Teacher Qu given all his dolls life in his dreams? If that wasn’t nightmare material, what was?

Then again, maybe these dolls had been the companions that stayed with him when his parents never did.

The pink teddy had barely finished crying when several brightly colored teddy bears jumped down from the first shelf — brown, tan, white, blue, green, orange, and purple. Looking at them all together, wasn’t this basically a deluxe gift set of seven rainbow teddy bears? Perfect for children. The only downside was that they might be a little murderous.

Ahhhhh! Don’t come over here! Damn it!

Frightened out of his wits, Yan Jiyun sprang onto the sewing machine, glaring down at the bears with wide eyes.

Qi Feng walked over, scooped him up, and tucked him back into the sports backpack. “Caramel, hide for now.”

He hadn’t expected his cat to immediately swat at a moving doll. That was his fault, he should’ve stopped him.

Now the pink teddy had gone crying to its family, and the whole household had come looking for justice.

Qi Feng suddenly felt like the parent of an unruly child being confronted by another family.

Yan Jiyun obediently stayed inside the backpack for the time being. “Meow?”

Qi Feng slowly backed away and addressed the group of dolls. “My cat just wanted to play with you. He didn’t mean any harm.”

The brown teddy said, “Then make your cat apologize to my son.”

Qi Feng’s cat looked completely innocent.

“Meow?” ‘What are you talking about? I don’t understand.’

Qi Feng said, “Look, he’s just a cat. He isn’t even human, and he can’t speak. Please don’t hold it against him. He’s only 4 months old.”

Even Qi Feng felt secondhand embarrassment saying that. He’d never imagined he’d one day become the parent of a troublemaking child, apologizing on their behalf.

Although, it wasn’t his first time. The last time he’d apologized was after his cat beat up someone else’s macaw.

Once was experience. Twice was routine.

For his cat, Qi Feng could bend when necessary. “I’m really sorry. How about I apologize to Little Pink Bear on his behalf?”

Papa Bear lifted his chin proudly. “I can accept that.”

Just as Qi Feng was about to speak, another voice rang out mockingly from the bookshelf. “Papa Bear, you’re really going to let this human off that easily? Have you no backbone? If apologies solved everything, what would we need the police for?”

Yan Jiyun looked toward the speaker. It was one of the blood-tear humanoid dolls, dressed in an exquisitely tailored black suit.

It sat on the shelf with one leg crossed over the other, wearing polished little leather shoes. Yan Jiyun had to admit that Teacher Xiao Qu was incredibly skilled — even tiny shoes like these had been handcrafted. Not only that, seated beside the black-suited doll were six others in different colors.

Teacher Xiao Qu really did have an obsession with seven colors.

At that moment, Yan Jiyun suddenly understood — so this is the real Teacher Qu.

Papa Bear thought the black-suited gentleman had a point. He turned back to Qi Feng. “That’s true. What’s the use of apologizing? My son still got knocked onto the floor.”

Qi Feng hugged his cat tighter. “But he’s not human. He can’t talk. I’ve already apologized, what more do you want? I don’t have any money. If you want something, all I have is my life.”

With Qi Feng acting as though he had nothing but his own life to offer, Papa Bear was momentarily stunned. Humans really were crafty; how was he supposed to know this was one of their tricks?

Yan Jiyun stared at the black-suited doll stirring up trouble. Once again, he wriggled free from Qi Feng’s arms. Qi Feng, with his current child-sized body, simply wasn’t strong enough to restrain him.

Using the sewing machine as a springboard, Yan Jiyun leapt onto the shelf and stretched out a paw. With a “smack”, The black-suited doll, who had been idly swinging his legs, was knocked clean off the shelf.

Qi Feng fell silent for a moment before speaking to the black-suited doll in a tone dripping with fake concern. “Cats naturally like chasing and pouncing on moving things. He’s not human, so I can’t really control him. I’m terribly sorry. Are you all right?”

The black-suited doll crashed to the floor, one of its legs was bent at an unnatural angle. It looked utterly miserable.

Furious, it scrambled to its feet and planted its hands on its hips. “Have you no public decency?! You awful cat! I’m going to catch you today!”

Yan Jiyun jumped down from above and casually swatted it aside again, as if batting around a ball.

Standing nearby, Qi Feng innocently narrated, “My cat’s very curious. It just wants to play with you.”

The black-suited doll was livid. “He got my clothes dirty! Our Little Master spent two whole days sewing this outfit for me! You have to compensate me!”

Qi Feng was about to say something else when Yan Jiyun knocked the black-suited doll over yet again.

This time, the black-suited doll gave up arguing with Qi Feng altogether. “Fine. You asked for this! Brothers, get down here and beat up this human and his cat! They’ve gone too far!”

All seven rainbow-colored suited dolls jumped off the shelves. Some charged at Qi Feng, and a doll in a white suit tried to leap directly onto Yan Jiyun’s back. But both Yan Jiyun and Qi Feng dodged nimbly. The doll landed with a loud thud, snapping one of its arms clean off.

One after another, the dolls chased Yan Jiyun around the room. Each was effortlessly swatted aside.

While avoiding the attacking dolls, Qi Feng couldn’t help realizing just how capable his cat really was. He sprinted to the door, twisted the doorknob, and thankfully, it opened.

Caramel! Let’s go!”

Yan Jiyun dashed toward him and sprang onto his shoulder. The Human and cat escaped the doll room together.

When the dolls reached the doorway, they were stopped by what seemed to be an invisible wall. one of them could leave the room.

Qi Feng gently patted Yan Jiyun on the head. “Why were you playing with them? You were obviously terrified just a moment ago.”

Yan Jiyun thought to himself, ‘Yes, that was scary, but after seeing Papa Bear’s family, it’s no longer so. Only lonely children dreamed of having a happy, complete family.’

That was Teacher Qu’s fantasy.

His reckless running around earlier had simply been a test to see how aggressive the dolls really were. Now he knew that they weren’t very dangerous.

As for why they weren’t dangerous — because the child who created them only wanted a family, and a group of friends who understood him.

As for the blood tears painted onto them, perhaps that was simply Class Monitor No. 6’s personal aesthetic.

After leaving the doll room, Qi Feng and Yan Jiyun quietly crept downstairs. They had only spent a short while inside before Class Monitor No. 6 had already finished eating and started heading back upstairs.

The man and cat hid behind a door. Class Monitor No. 6 didn’t return to the doll room. Instead, he walked into the second-floor bedroom, the very room where they had awakened earlier.

What was he going back there for?

Just then, the wall clock struck 1 PM. So, the kid was probably going to take his nap.

Qi Feng followed him with Yan Jiyun.

Class Monitor No. 6 didn’t fully close the bedroom door. From outside, Qi Feng watched him mechanically climb into bed and begin his afternoon nap with the precision of a robot before quietly slipping inside.

Class Monitor No. 6 was completely different from No. 4 and 5. Those two had carried a distinct streak of malice, while this one was quiet, unassuming, and not rebellious. Even the dolls he made weren’t particularly aggressive — they were simply toys to play house with him.

If they wanted to leave this scene, what did they need to d  for Class Monitor No. 6?

The nightmare here was clearly his parents. But now that Class Monitor No. 6 had gone to sleep, how were they supposed to continue the game?

Just then, the telephone rang.

Very abruptly.
