HTLCCBFT Chapter 110

Has The Lord’s Career Chart Been Filled Today? – Chapter 110

After being stopped by the young lord, Fosse couldn’t help but furrow his brow tightly.

Did the young lord know this bold and reckless madman?

Realizing this, even though his gaze toward the unfamiliar man remained filled with sharp killing intent, he unhesitatingly chose to obey the command.

He didn’t sternly force the other to draw his sword for a duel, but instead sheathed his own sword on the spot, slowly withdrawing the murderous aura surrounding him.

Yet that piercing gaze still stabbed like a sharp blade toward the man clinging to Oliver’s embrace.

“Alright, my dear Jin.”

Oliver was truly sweating invisible cold beads.

…Whether it was for Fosse who nearly attempted deicide, or for the Cat God who almost had its cover blown, he couldn’t say.

Although he didn’t believe that Fosse, as a human, possessed the ability to harm a deity, just imagining the possibility of the Cat God getting injured made him feel unsettled.

If the deity were to retaliate, Fosse would also fall into extremely dangerous circumstances.

He certainly didn’t want to see any conflict arise between the two.

The cat-shaped deity, having only followed the blond lord’s instructions to retract its conspicuous cat ears and large tail, was undoubtedly appearing before the people of Laina in its original divine body for the first time.

Whether it was the golden hair as brilliant and precious as gold, or the deity’s incomparably handsome features, both instantly made It the focus of everyone’s attention around.

Yet he paid no mind.

He remained completely unaware of the stolen glances from others, and hadn’t detected the dangerous killing intent Fosse had emitted earlier.

Would a lazily reclining tiger care about the emotions of tiny ants toward it?

Of course not.

They posed no threat to It whatsoever.

The pure yet naturally arrogant deity had only Oliver in Its eyes from beginning to end.

Meanwhile, Oliver, caught between the two, felt extremely uncomfortable.

While pretending to comfort the cat-shaped deity in his arms who had nearly caused trouble, he simultaneously used his eyes to soothe Fosse who was watching the cat-shaped deity like a hawk nearby, feigning melancholy as he said: “It’s been so long since we last met, you’ve grown so much.”

The cat-shaped deity, unsure how exactly to respond, simply nodded obediently: “Mm.”

Last night in bed, Oliver had already told It that when It didn’t know how to answer, just go along with his words and say “Mm.”

“Fosse, you probably don’t remember anymore.” Finally managing to peel the clingy ‘Golden’ off himself, Oliver struggled under Its resentful gaze and looked nonchalantly at the frowning butler, quietly weaving his lie: “This is my second elder brother’s… well, his name is ‘Jin’.”

The second prince’s offspring?

Fosse keenly detected the implication in the young lord’s words.

Of course he couldn’t possibly remember this non-existent person, but he firmly believed the young lord’s words.

While he managed the majority of affairs in the duke’s residence, no matter how capable he was, he couldn’t literally be inseparable from Oliver.

Just like that absurd Baron Arte had successfully exploited gaps in his defenses to approach Oliver several times before.

This handsome youth called ‘Jin’ certainly couldn’t be the child of the second princess consort – he was likely an illegitimate child born from the romantic second prince’s affair with some married woman during an earlier period.

No one knew how he had managed to escape the massacre ordered by the new king, Cameron.

“He barely escaped the royal capital,” Oliver continued in a hushed voice. “I must provide him sanctuary on Second Prince’s behalf and take him in.”

Fosse pressed his lips together.

He stared at this young man who, despite his tall and sturdy build, possessed a childlike mind and clung to the young lord with utter dependence. Fosse remained only half-convinced by that explanation.

Even though he never doubted—or perhaps never wished to doubt—the young lord… the young lord was always too kind-hearted, underestimating the power of lies.

That pure, bright golden hair, the impeccably handsome and profound features, the innate dignity—all these did suggest to some extent that noble royal blood likely flowed through his veins.

However, the notoriously unreliable Second Prince was by no means handsome.

Especially……

Fosse’s gaze fell upon the strikingly familiar cloak and the emblem whose patterns closely resembled his young master’s. Gradually, a speculation began to emerge in his mind.

Holding onto that incredible conjecture, Fosse quietly observed as Oliver spoke with ‘Jin.’

When Oliver finally ushered the reluctant ‘Jin’ into a guest room, instructing him to bathe before coming out, Fosse could no longer hold back.

“Your Highness,” Fosse lowered his voice to a whisper and asked quickly, “Is ‘Jin’ His Majesty’s secret bloodline?”

The beautiful golden hair, identical in hue to the young lord’s and strikingly similar to the late queen’s; the handsome appearance; the innate presence.

Even though he had fallen to such straits that he hadn’t brought a single attendant and seemed to possess no belongings beyond the clothes on his back… Fosse remembered that cloak.

His young lord owned a purple cloak nearly identical in style and material, differing only slightly in the thickness of the gold thread used for embellishment.

But that cloak of the young lord’s had been personally bestowed by the old king.

And the emblem’s patterns… they closely resembled the young lord’s as well, overlapping significantly with the royal family’s designs.

Considering all these points together, ‘Jin’ seemed less like a surviving descendant of that irresponsible Second Prince and more like a hidden illegitimate child of the old king.

Perhaps because the old king valued him greatly, he never publicly acknowledged him, yet couldn’t resist having his most beloved youngest son be close to him.

No matter how clever and perceptive Fosse was, he could never have guessed that the reason for so many similarities was that the deity had directly modeled the clothing and emblem after Oliver’s.

If not for Oliver’s reminder, out of selfishness, He might have made the garments and emblem completely identical rather than making subtle adjustments.

Oliver:”……?!”

As soon as the question was asked, Fosse, who had been closely watching his young master, found the answer in those suddenly widened blue eyes.

“I understand.”

He sighed softly, the tension that had gripped him throughout the journey finally easing.

He bent down, kissed the hem of Oliver’s robe, and whispered, “Thank you for your trust, dear Highness.”

Had the old king still been alive, Jin, as an illegitimate child, might have been given a respectable position, or perhaps elevated to a higher noble rank with a prosperous territory.

But with the old king’s sudden and violent death, he had truly lost everything.

It was completely understandable that he would choose to travel a long distance to seek refuge with his kind-hearted younger brother, fearing the ruthless new king.

As long as Jin wasn’t insane, he would never harm His Highness Oliver, who was most important to him.

Oliver: “……”

After being stunned for a moment, he roughly guessed the butler’s train of thought.

He vaguely hummed in agreement, then looked at Fosse with a slightly peculiar expression.

…He never expected his butler’s imagination to be even wilder than his own.

This was just as well—the conclusion Fosse had drawn on his own was far more credible than the clumsy lie he had fabricated.

And having the Cat God as his elder brother rather than his nephew…

Considering Golden’s true identity, it was undoubtedly more appropriate in terms of seniority.

No matter how innocent and adorable the Cat God appeared, he was still a deity—he couldn’t possibly be younger than him, Oliver thought.

As for others’ opinions, he didn’t care: whether in appearance or demeanor, as long as the cat-shaped deity didn’t speak carelessly and reveal his naive nature, he was imposing enough to appear as nothing less than a noble of the highest status.

Moreover, as both a duke and the lord of Laina, no one would dare question his decisions.

The only one he needed to convince was Fosse.

Yet he hadn’t expected Fosse to be so sharp—he had convinced himself in the blink of an eye.

“Well, even if he is a relative coming to seek refuge with me, I can’t let him stay idle,” Oliver said, knowing that saying more could lead to mistakes, and wisely chose not to add unnecessary details. Instead, he shifted the topic: “What other nobles do is their own business, a matter for the deities they worship. But on this land under the Cat God’s protection, even nobles should contribute their share to build it better and strive to pass higher trials.”

Fosse remained silent for a moment before tactfully reminding him, “But, Your Highness, in other cities not under the Cat God’s protection, nobles consider labor shameful.”

The wide sleeves, trailing ribbons, and extravagant accessories were all proof that they didn’t need to work the land—symbols of their lofty status.

If Jin were to bear a grudge against the young lord for this strictness…

Fosse couldn’t help but feel concerned.

“Fosse, haven’t you noticed that I wasn’t too surprised by his arrival?” Oliver said with a smile. “In fact, last night in a dream, I already received an oracle from the Cat God. He has bestowed a portion of wisdom upon my… unfortunate blood relative. With this wisdom, he will surely be willing to help me and Laina.”

Fosse pondered thoughtfully, “What is Your Highness’s intention?”

“There are many tasks I need him to handle for me,” Oliver said, then immediately smiled to reassure his possibly disheartened butler. “Isn’t it the same with Arte? The wisdom each person receives can be put to different uses. And you, my capable butler…””It’s different. Just worrying about me and keeping busy on my behalf already takes up all your time. Perhaps that’s precisely why the great Cat God chose not to impose trials upon you alone, so you could support me wholeheartedly.”

“As expected of the wise and discerning Cat God.”

Fosse felt a faint joy welling up in his heart at Oliver’s words, the corners of his lips lifting slightly: “To serve you is the honor of my lifetime, my beloved prince.”

Just beyond the door, the Cat God sitting idly on the bed: “…………”

His eyes stared blankly, the cat ears that had been secretly freed earlier and were happily twitching now drooped slightly in dejection.

Even though he had just been praised by two devotees.

— Indeed.

He flicked his tail anxiously, thinking.

After all… He should have transformed into Fosse.

Oliver clearly liked Fosse so much!

When Oliver finally finished comforting Fosse and entered the guest room to check on the situation, he was met with a deity whose cat ears and long tail were all puffed up in anger, looking incredibly fluffy, with an expression both furious and heartbroken.

But in these short few days, having roughly figured out the other’s temperament, Oliver no longer easily felt the panic of “having offended the deity.”

It was quite incredible, really.

Oliver knew in his heart that although he wouldn’t call himself overly suspicious, due to his unique experiences, while he might appear gentle and harmless on the surface, he was actually quite guarded.

Yet this deity, who had initially concealed his identity and should have made him maintain a respectful distance or remain wary, had broken down his defenses in such a short time.

Whether his true form was really his favorite cat or something else…

Oliver thought, such a pure, naive, straightforward deity was utterly adorable.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.”

The moment He noticed his sadness and dejection, a gentle, beautiful smile bloomed on Oliver’s face.

He stepped forward proactively and embraced the cat-eared deity, who was sitting on the bed and thus easy for him to hold around the upper body.

He was stunned.

Before He could react, Oliver, as he had done before, naturally kissed the tip of those furry ears, and with soft sincerity, coaxed with a smile: “Now everyone believes it, we really did it! It’s wonderful, I knew you could grant my wish, you’re always so good to me… my dearest God.”
