RoCD Chapter 88

The Vengeful Ghost — The Bone Beauty (21)

The next day.

When Youyou woke up and was told by the system Xixi that the mission for this world was already seventy-five percent complete, she was utterly dumbfounded.

Because she hadn’t done anything.

She had just been playing games all day.

In the system space, Xixi, who witnessed this, was truly exasperated. It stretched its cat-like mouth into a grimace and said bluntly.

[Host, haven’t I told you? As long as your relationship with the Great Demon King is close enough, completing the mission is just a matter of minutes.]

This world’s mission had four objectives:

One, save the Bai Corporation.

Two, ensure Father and Mother Bai remain healthy.

Three, acquire the Great Demon King’s company.

Four, make Shui Sisi lose her golden finger.

In other words, aside from acquiring the Great Demon King’s company, all the other objectives had now been directly or indirectly completed. And the machinations behind all of it were definitely related to the Great Demon King. Thinking of this, Xixi added: [So you should really go and thank the Great Demon King, you know.]

Sighing inwardly at how incredibly lucky its host was, Xixi recalled its miserable former hosts, and the corner of its mouth couldn’t help but twitch.

“Huh?”

Qingqing did all my missions for me?

Her mouth slightly agape in disbelief, Youyou lay in bed clutching the blanket and asked Xixi gleefully, ‘So what’s left? Let’s just finish it all!’

Her tone was remarkably bold, without the slightest hint of embarrassment.

[The mission to acquire the Great Demon King’s company.]

Completely at a loss with its “a fool’s fortune” host, Xixi said jokingly: [Perhaps if you just act cutr in front of the Great Demon King a little, the mission will take care of itself.]

Xixi was only joking, but Youyou took it seriously. Giving a lazy yawn, Youyou snuggled affectionately against her pillow and agreed in her soft, sweet voice, ‘Okay, when I see Qingqing tonight, I’ll give that a try.’

After all, she had done it with Bai Qu and Su Ling before, so she was very familiar with the concept. A hint of a smile gathered in her water-clear eyes. Youyou gazed out the window at the clear, azure sky, pouting her cherry-blossom pink lips as she muttered to herself, ‘I wonder what Bai Qu and Su Ling are doing… I wonder if they miss me.’

In her memory, she had never been away from them for this long before. She missed them.

So, so much.

Xixi: ……

How was it supposed to tell its host that Bai Qu and Su Ling were probably already dead?

Sunrise, sunset.

Youyou finally saw Mo Qingwu arrive at her apartment.

She skipped forward happily, her makeup-free little face glowing with excitement. “I bought an anime jigsaw puzzle online—two thousand pieces. Let’s put it together!”

Hearing this, Mo Qingwu arched a brow imperceptibly. She followed the girl into the bedroom and saw that in the pale blue room, the plush carpet was covered with a pile of pieces, none of them connected. It looked like it had only just been opened.

“Xiao Youyou.”

Completely uninterested in puzzles, Mo Qingwu took Youyou by the arm. With a gentle, smiling inquiry, she asked, “Will you come out to dinner with me?”

“Huh? You haven’t eaten yet? It’s so late.”

“That’s right. I’ve been busy all day, no time at all.”

Holding the girl’s soft, tender hand, she pointed to the dark circles under her own eyes. Mo Qingwu pouted with self-disgust, a rare look of grievance on her face. “See? I have dark circles. Have I gotten ugly? Am I not pretty anymore?”

“Huh?”

Her eyes widening in surprise, Youyou looked at Mo Qingwu in disbelief. “Why would you think that?”

This person was exquisitely, incredibly beautiful.

She was the most beautiful person Youyou had ever seen.

Puffing up her cheeks instinctively, Youyou looked Mo Qingwu up and down, then said with great solemnity.

“You’re not ugly. You’re super beautiful. Really.”

After a pause, as if afraid Mo Qingwu wouldn’t believe her, she added with a soft huff, “I’m a real face-con. If you weren’t pretty, I wouldn’t like you.” someone who is very particular about physical appearance and is strongly attracted to beautiful people

Mo Qingwu: ……

“Is… that… so?”

Although she understood what the little girl was trying to say, she still felt quite displeased.

She pulled the little girl into her arms and, as if in punishment, gave her cheek a pinch, asking the question she most wanted to ask.

“So, in your eyes, am I prettier, or is Shui Sisi prettier?”

Perhaps it was simply that men and women lost in the throes of love always fussed over such things; even the cold-blooded and aloof Mo Qingwu was no exception. Youyou was made to blush by Mo Qingwu’s action. She blinked her large, round eyes and said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, “In my eyes, you’re the prettiest. No one can compare.”

“Oh? So I’m that wonderful in your eyes? What a surprise, hmm?” The smile on her face was impossible to hide. Mo Qingwu released Youyou and said with a grin, “Then hurry up and change, Xiao Youyou. I’m hungry.”

“Mhm, mhm, okay.”

Not understanding how this person’s mood could change so quickly, Youyou changed into a dress and came out to find Mo Qingwu already standing at the bedroom door, waiting.

Walking over, she naturally looped her arm through Mo Qingwu’s. Youyou suddenly remembered her mission and looked up, wheedling.

“Qingqing.”

The girl’s voice was already soft and sweet as candy. Now, the final syllable of her word trailed off, imbued with an unconscious allure, as she looked up at Mo Qingwu with dewy eyes. It was enough to make the black-hearted, black-lunged Great Demon King’s ears turn red, her throat go dry, and her body tremble uncontrollably. It was clear she was deeply stirred.

“Wh-What is it?”

Mo Qingwu felt, in a daze, as if her own voice were coming from somewhere far away.

“Qingqing, I’ll give you… ten yuan… to let me acquire the Mo Corporation, okay?” Not noticing that something was off with Mo Qingwu, Youyou swung her arm, making her intimate request. Xixi had said that the original Youyou’s wish was to acquire Mo Qingwu’s company, but it hadn’t specified how.

Therefore, as long as the ownership of the Mo Corporation changed to her, the mission would be complete.

“Ten yuan. Not a penny more.”

After hearing this, Mo Qingwu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She gave a helpless tug at the corner of her lips, not at all angry, and simply stated the facts in a serious tone.

“There, there, don’t be silly. What would you do with the Mo Corporation? Drive it into bankruptcy?”

She knew exactly what the girl was and wasn’t capable of. If she were put in charge of the Mo Corporation, wouldn’t it be devoured in minutes?

However, when she saw the little girl’s face fall at a speed visible to the naked eye, Mo Qingwu felt a sharp pang in her heart, and her tone instinctively shifted.

“However, if Youyou wants the Mo Corporation, that’s fine too. As long as the two of us get married, then all the shares I own will be transferred to you.”

“Huh? Really?”

All it takes is getting married? No money?

“Yes, truer than real gold. Are you happy now?”

Unable to resist, she pulled the vexing Youyou tightly into her arms. Mo Qingwu gave Youyou a firm kiss and sighed with deep emotion.

“I’m really no match for you. How did you make me love you this much?”

Youyou: ……

Her face instantly flushed crimson. Youyou clutched the corner of Mo Qingwu’s clothes, overcome with shyness.

In truth, she also found it strange how she had fallen for Mo Qingwu so easily. But she was just so happy. Simply being held like this made her heart feel warm, as if there was nothing to worry about anymore.

‘Xixi.’

[You did great, Host. The Great Demon King always keeps her word; she won’t deceive you.] At least not about this, the system silently added.

‘Mm.’

With the burden of the mission lifted from her heart, Youyou smiled like a silly little fool all evening. Mo Qingwu found it amusing and, as a result, even ate an extra half-bowl of rice.

Having calmed down, Mo Qingwu naturally connected Youyou’s words with the circumstances of their first meeting. Thinking further about Youyou’s secret, she understood that this move was likely related to that mysterious thing.

Still, it was only the Mo Corporation. A price she could afford to pay.

She thought of Na Lian from before, who had underestimated that living thing, which led to Youyou’s soul ceasing to exist after her death. And now…

The stars in the sky were brilliant, the night sky very beautiful. Mo Qingwu sat in an open-air pavilion in the residential complex, her gaze obscure and unreadable as she stared at Youyou in her arms.

“You’ll stay with me for this entire life, won’t you?”

Mo Qingwu’s voice was faint and ethereal, yet it held an imperceptible undercurrent of obsession and danger. Youyou, completely oblivious, still gave a low mumble of assent.

Hearing the answer she wanted, Mo Qingwu’s expression softened slightly. She looked at the overlapping shadows in the darkness, and began to calculate something in her heart.

A gentle breeze blew, bringing with it waves of floral and grassy scents. Youyou sighed comfortably, nestled in Mo Qingwu’s arms, but then suddenly remembered the matter of the female ghost.

“Qingqing, is that female ghost still around? When are you two going to fuse?”

Xixi said that female ghost is the Great Demon King’s fragmented soul. But she’s never seen what the female ghost really looks like.

“She is.”

The mere mention of the fragmented soul made Mo Qingwu want to stomp the ring spirit and Shui Sisi to death. Closing her eyes to hide the fury in her heart, she caressed Youyou’s hair with the pads of her fingers and spoke, one word at a time.

“But she’s very weak right now and needs some time to recuperate. Once she’s better, we can prepare for the fusion.”

Not at all surprised that Youyou knew about her connection to the fragmented soul, Mo Qingwu leaned against the stone pillar of the pavilion and teased with a smile, “What’s this?

Is Youyou not afraid of ghosts anymore?”

“Uh.”

The moment she heard the word “ghost,” Youyou still felt a surge of cowardice. She gave Mo Qingwu’s waist a pinch and answered honestly, “I am. But… I’m not afraid of you.”

“Is that so?”

Although the little girl didn’t know how to speak proper sweet nothings, every bit of her care and special treatment was enough to shake her to the core. Her heart went soft and numb. Mo Qingwu was beginning to understand why the female ghost had been so desperate to lure the girl into her arms.

A trace of blood-red flashed through her ink-black eyes. Mo Qingwu warned Youyou in a low voice, “Then, Xiao Youyou, you have to keep your word. No matter what I look like, whether I’m good or bad, beautiful or ugly, righteous or evil, you are not allowed to be afraid.”

Even if she were covered in sin, utterly ugly, she would not permit the little girl in her arms to show the slightest hint of disgust or resistance.

Youyou: ……

Pondering Mo Qingwu’s words carefully, Youyou pursed her lips, her tone hesitant. “What if… you lose your looks? What if you become so ugly I can’t even eat?”

She didn’t think about much, just about eating well, sleeping well, drinking well, and playing well. Therefore, eating well and all that was truly very important.

Silence. Utter silence.

After a long moment, Mo Qingwu finally found her voice. She pinched Youyou’s waist forcefully and said through gritted teeth, “Don’t you worry. When that time comes, I’ll have plenty of ways to make… you… eat.”
